Catherine Bonner
Catherine Louise Bright Bonner, 76, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Wednesday morning, Jan. 11, at Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins. She had been in declining health.
She was born May 2, 1929, at Hambleton, a daughter of the late Harley Ferris Bright and Mildred Moneta Jackson Bright. On June 23, 1947, at Red House, Md., she was married to Don Bonner, who survives. They had celebrated fifty-nine years of marriage.
Also surviving are two daughters, Patricia Ann Wisniewski and
husband Lenny of
Raleigh, N.C., and Donna Louise Teagarden and husband Kenneth of Parsons;
three grandchildren, Kimberley Teagarden Carr of Parsons, Krisdee Summerfield
Casey of Canada and Ryan Summerfield of Elkins; and six great-grandchildren,
Aasta Jones, Cayden Casey, Tanner Casey, Logan Carr, Isaac Carr and Rachel Carr.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in
death by two brothers, Robert James Bright and Richard Harley Bright.
She attended Thomas High School. She was a member of Hendricks Free Methodist Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher for preschoolers. She was a homemaker, loved quilting and gardening and she loved her family.
The family received friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Jan 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor Saturday, Jan. 14, at 2 p.m. Pastor John M. Means officiated and interment followed in Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements for Catherine Louise Bright Bonner. Martin Canan
Martin Jacob Canan, 88, was born Oct. 4, 1917, in Leadmine, to Walter and Rhetta Canan. He died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005.
He is survived by a brother Richard of New Creek; sister, Ann Mullenax of Pasadena, Md.; wife Vera Marie; four sons Gary and wife Jeannette of Oklahoma City, Okla., David and wife Pat of Midwest city, Okla., John and wife Rachel of Tucson, Ariz., and Robby of El Reno, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and numerous family and friends.
He was a graduate of Thomas High School.
Services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005, at Edmond Church of Christ and interment was held at Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond, Okla.
Mary L. England
Mary Lou Carr England, 74, a resident of Montrose and more recently a resident of Elkins Regional Convalescent Center at Elkins, went home to be with her Lord and Savior and loved ones late Wednesday evening, Jan. 11, in Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins. She had been in declining health.
She was born Wednesday, June 17, 1931, at Pheasant Run, a daughter of the late Russell Forrester Lee Carr and Lovie Esta Moran Carr. On July 3, 1950, at Parsons, she was married to Robert Chesley England, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Steven Duane England and wife Patricia of Concord, Ohio, and Randy Gene England and Lana Butcher of Elkins; two daughters, Connie Lou Gainer and husband Kevin of Kerens and Donna Lee Jeffries and husband Jim of Montrose; one brother, Harry “Sonny” Carr and wife, Carol, of Morgantown; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by one son, Dennis Lane England; three brothers, Vincent, Earl and Alton “Remus” Carr; one infant brother, Russell; and one sister; Betty Oldaker.
She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1949. She was a clerk for the former G.C. Murphy Co. and the former J&H Market, and she was a homemaker. She taught piano lessons. She played piano for Hart Chapel Church in Kerens, the Riverview Chapel Church in Porterwood and the Refuge Church at Gilman, and she was the piano player for Lohr & Barb Funeral Home for many years. She was the piano player and was lead singer for the Carr Trio. Mary Lou was famous for her renditions of “Miss Know It All.” She loved working on word search puzzles. She was known for her wit, humor and relentless orneriness.
The family received friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home ofElkins on Friday, Jan. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at 11 a.m. Pastor Kevin Gainer officiated and interment followed at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. Burnetta DeVore
Burnetta Arnold DeVore, age 97 uyears, a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas, departed this life Saturday afternoon, Jan. 14, at the nursing home.
She was born Monday, Feb. 22, 1909 at Barton, Md., a daughter of the late Jesse Arnold and Amanda Kyle Arnold. She was married to Robert J. "Bob" DeVore, who preceded her in death Dec. 13, 1984.
Surviving are one nephew Bob Nolan and wife Karen of Fallling Waters.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate fmaily having been preceded in death by two sisters Evelyna Nolan and Catherine Arnold.
She attended the schools of Barton, Md., and she was a graduate of Frostburg, State University. she was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church at Parsons, where she played the organ for many years. She was a schoolteacher for many years having taught at Kempton, Md. grade schools and for the Tucker county Board of Education. After her retirement, she along with her husband owned and operated the former B & B Clothing Store in Parsons. During 2005, she received an award for being the oldest living graduate from Frostburg State University. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday, Jan. 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. On Wednesday, Jan. 18, Mrs. DeVore will be moved to Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church at Parsons where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. The Rev. Father Timothy J. Grassi will be the Presider. Interment will follow at the Mount Calvary Cemetery at Thomas. Rev. Terry Fairbanks
The Reverend Terry Fairbanks, age 69 years, a former resident of Tucker county and a resident of Morgantown, WV , departed this life Monday afternoon, Jan. 16 at Dry Fork. Death was attributed to a massive heart attack.

Joseph Hradsky
Joseph Henry Hradsky, 82, of Thomas, passed away Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas.
He was born Sept. 30, 1923, in Baltimore, Md., a son of the late Joseph Emmanuel and Anna Josephine Zavadil Hradsky. On Nov. 5, 1944, he married his wife of 61 years, Violet Marie Sine Hradsky.
He is also survived by a daughter, Marie Elaine (and Donald Lorenzo) Evans of Augusta; one grandchild, Russell Paul Colley Jr.; and three great-grandchildren, Corey, Logan and Tanner Colley.
Mr. Hradsky was a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 0139, Baltimore, Md. He was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Thomas.
Friends were received at the Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis on Saturday, Jan. 14 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services were held at the Hinkle Funeral Chapel on Sunday, Jan. 15 at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. Todd Rhodes officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Thomas. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Wanda Lucci
Word has been received that Wanda Jones Lucci of Spring Texas, and formerly of Morgantown, passed away peacefully on Dec. 26.
She was born Nov. 24, 1921 in St. George to the late Elizabeth (Sadie) Dunnington and Earl Jones.
Wanda was a devoted mother, a skilled seamstress and an avid gardener. She took great pride in her home, enjoyed her family and was a faithful member of her church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Michael Steve (Mickey) Lucci Sr. in 1951; a sister Maixne Jones; brothers John (Casey) and Carols (Dink) Jones; and a son-in-law Albert E. Zalatoris.
Among those surviving Wanda are several nieces and nephews and the spouses Carol (Jones) and Allen Croston and Janie (Jones) and Randy Shahan of Parsons, Bill and Jo Jones of Phoenix, Ariz., Jim and Gwen Jones of Dunbar, Sandra (Jones) and Richard Hill of Bowie, MD., and Judy (Jones) and David Jaques of Glen Burnie, Md.
The family will receive friends at the Mancinellis-Davison Funeral Home in Morgantown on Jan. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at St. Francis DeSales Church, Guthrie Lane, with Father Bandiera officiating. A graveside service by Rev. Allen Crosten and interment in the Jones fmaily resting place in Parsons City Cemetery in Parsons will follow.
In lieu of flowrs, donations may be sent in membory of Wanda Lucci to the St. Francis High School Scholarship Fund, St. Francis High School 375 Birch Street, Morgantown, WV 26505 or to the Christ the Good Shepherd Church, 18511 Klein Church Road, Spring, Texas to benefit Holy Name School.
Nellie Mauzy
Nellie Glee Good Mauzy, 91, of Harman, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas.
She was born May 1, 1914, at Jenningston, a daughter of the late Samuel Kenny and Anna Myrtle Thompson Good. Her husband, James Edward Mauzy, preceded her in death in 1967.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, William Granville and Glancy Carl; and two sisters, Ruby Gay Lambert and Amy G. Kirkland. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Mauzy was a homemaker and a grocery clerk at Cooper & Son Store in Harman for more than 25 years. She was a lifelong member of Harman Presbyterian Church and a member of Harman Senior Citizens Board, Harman Farm Women’s Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.
Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral Home on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services were held on Sunday, Jan. 15 at HInkle Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Joe Mininger officiating. Interment followed in Parsons City Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
George Spessert Jr. ![]()
George William “Tick” Spessert Jr., age 86 years, a resident of White Ridge, Saint George, departed this life early Wednesday morning, Jan. 11, at his home. He had been in declining health.
He was born Sept. 9, 1919, at White Ridge, Saint George, a son of the late George William Spessert Sr. and Ethel Grace White Spessert. On Feb. 2, 1939, at Parsons, he was married to the former Reva Faye Kisner, who proceeded him in death in July 1996.
Surviving are three sons, Carl G. Spessert and wife Janet of Montrose, Rodney L. Spessert and wife Martha of Shavers Fork and Anthony W. “Tony” Spessert and wife Christina of Connecticut; two daughters, Rosalita Williams and husband Denver of Ballard and Rebecca S. Spessert of Limestone Road; one sister, Isobel Simmons and husband Worley of Shavers Fork; sixteen grandchildren, twenty seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were one infant daughter, Debarah; two brothers, Cloyd Spessert and Woodrow Spessert; and four sisters, Ruth Loughry, Laura Stiles, Margaret Stemple and Lalah Miller.
He attended the school at White Ridge. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the European theater. He was a farmer, a woodsman, he worked for the Carnation Milk Company delivering milk and he worked for the West Virginia Division of Highways as a truck driver, retiring in 1982. He was a lifelong member of Mount Carmel Church at Limestone. He was musically inclined playing string instruments and the harmonica.
The family received friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. Final rites were conducted at Mount Carmel Church at White Ridge on Sunday, Jan. 15, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Neil Parsons officiated and interment followed at Mount Carmel Cemetery at White Ridge, where full military rites will be accorded by members of H.W. Pamela Stump
Pamela Mae Stump, 44, met her Redeemer face to face on Saturday, Jan.14 following an amazing journey with cancer and God's grace.
She belonged to Christ and was a member of Faith Bible Church.
A former teacher at Louisville High School, she is preceded in death by her brother Daniel Lee Stump and father Robert Lee Stump.
Pam is survived by her mother Letha Ilene Stump of Hartville; her sister Deborah Lynn Snode (married to Douglas Snode) of Carrollton; a brother, Robert Larry Stump (married to Kathy Lynn Stump) of Parsons. She is also survived by niece Michelle Sigley of Parsons; and nephews Jason Stump of Clovis, N.M, as well as Samuel, Joseph, Gabriel and Seth Snode of Carrolton.
Calling hours are Friday, Jan. 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Faith Bible Church, 5715 Market Ave. N. North Canton, Ohio 44721. Graveside services will be Saturday, Jan. 21 at 9 a.m. at Marlboro Cemetery with Homegoing service to be held at Faith Bible Church at 11 a.m. Schneeberger Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
