Margaret L. Fansler
She was born Feb. 5, 1933, at Pittsburgh, Pa., a daughter of the late Ralph Gmuer and Elizabeth Forsha Gmuer. She was twice married. First to the Rev. Basil A. "Bill" Harris, who preceded her in death on June 20, 1985, and then on Aug. 3, 1992, at Princeton, she was married to Arthur Dale "Dick" Fansler, who preceded her in death May 13, 2001.
Surviving are two sons, James N. Harris and wife Ken of Bridgeport and William S. Harris and wife Jeanette of Mt. Pleasant; one step-son Phillip F. Fansler and wife Debbie of Hendricks; three daughters Linda S. Phillips and husband Larry, Cindy J. Phillips and Crystal L. Polomski and husband Mike, all of Hambleton; one step-daughter Frances M. Hedrick and husband Dale of Fairmont; two brothers Ralph Gmuer of Dover, Del., and Fred Gmuer of Pittsburgh, Pa.; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law Sudie Harris.
Preceding her in death was one son, Edward L. Harris.
She attended the schools of Pittsburgh. She worked for the former Parsons Footwear. Following the death of her husband, the Rev. Bill Harris, she pastored the Riverview Chapel Church at Porterwood for eleven years, retiring in 1996. She was a homemaker and enjoyed camping and her family.
The family will receive friends at the Riverview Chapel Church on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the Church on Thursday, Feb. 5, at noon. The Rev. Dick Gadd will officiate and interment will follow in the Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Margaret Louise "Peg" Harris Fansler. Homer E. Likens
He was born Wednesday, Feb. 9, 1921, at Leadmine, a son of the late William Dunkin Likens and Maudie Montgomery Likens. He was married to the former Georgia Delaney Helmick, who preceded him in death in June of 1985.
Surviving are one step-daughter, Catherine Hinkle of Hambleton; and several step-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren and several step-great-great-grandchildren.
He is the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by three brothers, Lester, Elmer and John Likens; and four sisters, Mable Kelly, Hazel Smock, Bertha Shaffer and Inez Likens.
He attended the one room school at Leadmine. He was an employee of the former Parsons Nursery and retired from the Kingsford Charcoal Co. He was a member of the Tucker County Senior Center and he was a Methodist. He was an avid gardener and was known for his beautiful flowers.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Monday, Feb. 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Loren Metzner officiated and interment followed in Sunrise Cemetery at Hambleton. Onda P. Nestor
She was born Friday, Oct. 31, 1919, at Licking Creek Community, St. George, a daughter of the late George Solomon Loughry and Ocie Nestor Loughry. On June 1, 1935, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Carl Everett Nestor, who preceded her in death 2001.
Surviving are three sons, Donald Nestor and wife Marlayne of Parsons, David Nestor and wife Nancy of Lost Creek and Dale Nestor and wife Marty of Parsons; two daughters, Nellie Holler of Joppa, Md., and Sharon White of Augusta; two brothers, John Loughry of Parsons and Bill Loughry of Colombus, Ohio; and twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren and twenty-five great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were one son, Clarence Allen Nestor; five brothers, Junior, Harry, Ellis, Denver and one infant; and six sisters, Viola, Rosa, Flossie, Dona, Virginia and one infant.
She attended the one room school at Licking Creek. She was a clerk for the former Gilbert Knicley Auction House in Parsons and then along with her husband she owned and operated Carl's Motel and Restaurant and the Parsons Builders Supply in Parsons for many years. She was a homemaker and a noted cook. She attended the First Baptist Church in Parsons and the Town Baptist Church in Joppa, Md.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Sunday, Feb. 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Monday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. Pastor Allen Dale Crosten officiated and interment followed at the Nestor Cemetery at Bull Run, St. George. Hazel W. Poling
She was born Sunday, Aug. 10, 1913 at Fork Mountain, a daughter of the late Clarence Wilson and Clara Pennington Wilson. On Aug. 29, 1934, at Red House, Md., she was married to Gaston Earl Poling, who preceded her in death Nov. 10, 2003. They had celebrated sixty-nine years of marriage.
Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Glenn Poling and wife Agnes and Robert Earl Poling, all of Fork Mt., Parsons; one daughter, Anzine Grace Monastra and husband Nicholas of Mansfield, Ohio; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law Loretta Poling.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by one son, John Daniel Poling; three brothers, Fred, Herbert and Bill Wilson; one sister, Blanch Lazell; five step-sisters and two step-brothers; and one grandson, Michael Allen Poling.
She attended the one room school at Fork Mountain. She worked for the former Dorman Mills at Parsons. She was a homemaker. She was a wonderful Mother. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Parsons.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons, Thursday, Feb. 5 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted t the funeral home parlor on Friday, Feb. 6, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Dick Gadd will officiate and interment will follow in the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. Mrs. Poling's request for a closed casket will be honored. Martha Teranto
Martha Eva (Bozic) Teranto, 68, of Silver Spring, Md. passed away Friday, Jan .23, from complications related to pneumonia.
She was born March 17, 1940 in Coketon, to Eva and William Bozic.
Martha is survived by her children Rhonda (Tim Rinkel) Teranto of Silver Spring, Md., Michael (Christine) Teranto of Virginia Beach, Va. and Joan (Danny) Diggs of Silver spring, Md. She was the beloved grandmother of Alex Diggs and Devon Rinkel. She is also survived by her sisters Eileen (Richard) Day and Karen New, as well as many adoring nieces and nephews.
Martha was predeceased by her mother Eva (Grow) Wills; her father William Bozic and her sister Janice Hopple. She was a strong, loving, beautiful woman who lived life on her terms and left this world with beauty and dignity, surrounded by family and friends.
In addition to being devoted to her family, Martha was a talented artist, cook, and avid gardener. One visit to her backyard would be a memorable experience for any visitor. Martha was also deeply moved by the natural beauty of her home state, West Virginia, from which her heart never truly left.
A memorial gathering and celebration of her life is planned for the Spring, her favorite season. Family and friends will receive notice as the date approaches.
