Lila G. Waid
Lila Grace Waid, 60, of Hambleton, died Feb. 8, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. Death was attributed to heart failure.

She was born July 10, 1941, in Parsons, a daughter of the late Delbert "Red" Ankrom and Martha James Ankrom, who survives in Hambleton and the late Ray Orndoff Sr. On May 22, 1965, in Parsons, she was married to Nelson Dale Waid, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Andrea Lynn (and Vincent) Roberts, Parsons; four brothers, Ellis "Duke" (and Rose Ann) Humphrey Parsons; Ray Orndoff Jr., Steve and Greg Orndoff, all of Hagerstown, Md.; two sisters, Linda Mae (and Steve) Scott, Hambleton, and Barbara Orndoff, Hagerstown, Md.; and a grandson, Travis David Roberts, a student at West Virginia Wesleyan College, Buckhannon.

Preceding her in death are by her stepfather, Ellis Humphrey Sr.; and a sister, Debbie Orndoff.

She attended the Hamrick School and was a 1961 graduate of Parsons High School. She was a teller for Riggs National Bank of Washington, D.C., and the National Bank of Washington, D.C. She was former office manager for the town of Hambleton, former police judge for the town of Hendricks and was a former employee of the Tucker County Senior Center. She attended Hambleton United Methodist Church and was a member of the women's society. She also attended the Pentecostal Church in Rosendorf.

Friends were received at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home where final rites were conducted Feb 12. The Rev. John Glessner officiated and interment followed at the Bethel Cemetery, Holly Meadows.

 

Leon G. Ruckle
Leon George (Punk) Ruckle, 89, of Davis, died Feb. 7, at home.
He was born June 19, 1912, in Dobbin, a son of the late Leon Monterville Ruckle and Amanda Kline Ruckle.

He is survived by a son, Dale (and Barbara) Ruckle, Thomas; two daughters, Kathy (and Ted) Thomas, Davis, and Donna (and Gary) Hufschmid of Nessulbach, Switzerland; a sister, Doris Arnold, Davis; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Sponaugle Ruckle in 1996; also a brother and two sisters.

He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church of Davis, the FOE 936 of Davis and the Alpine Post of the VFW 8367 and the CCC.

Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis, where services were held Feb. 10, with the Rev. J.J. Johnson officiating. Interment followed in the Davis Cemetery.

 

Louise Vachon

Louise T. Vachon, 85, of Creve Coeur IL., died Jan. 31 in the emergency room at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born March 11, 1916, in Tucker county, to Phillip O. and Myrtle Ryan Haddix, she married Gilford Francis Vachon April 21, 1935, in Davis. He died Jan. 20, 1994, in Creve Coeur.

Surviving are three sons, P. David (and Adelia) of Williston, FL, Gary (and Mary Sue) of Peoria, and Louis (and Janet) of Washington; two daughters, Susan (and Joel) Yerby of Wauwatosa, WI, and Francis (and Karl) Johnson of Southfield, MI; one sister, Lolita (and Robert) Kalar of Parsons; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Vachon, three brothers and one sister.

She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral in Peoria.

She was a former member of the University of Illinois Home Extension in Creve Coeur, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Peoria and its Altar and Rosary Society.

A funeral Mass was held at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Joseph Donton officiated. Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton.
