Paige Armentrout
Paige T. Armentrout, 90, of 237 Bank Street, Weston, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, due to injuries sustained in a pedestrian accident.
She was born Sept. 5, 1916, in Thomas, a daughter of the late Salvatore and Candida DiBacco.
She is survived by one son Timothy Armentrout of Lexington, Ky.; one grandson Timothy Lee Armentrout of Lexington, Ky.; one brother Anthony DiBacco of Keyser; and one sister Betty Petrella of Sun City, Wes, AZ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Hanzel Lee Armentrout in 1956; one son Raymond Armentrout; one brother Carment DiBacco; and four sister Mary Greco, Susie DiBAcco, Flemy Massi and Adeline LaCamera.
Paige retired as a music teacher from Lewis County High School and was a graduate of the Eastman Schoolf o fMusic in Rochester, N.Y. She was a member of the WV and National Teacher Association, Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher Society, Catholic Daughters of America and Saint Patrick Catholic Church.
Friends called at the Boyle Funeral Home, 322 Main Avenue, Weston, Sunday, Feb. 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. A Rosary Service was held at 7:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2007 at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, Weston, with Father John DiBacco and Reverend Father Jeremiah McSweeney as Co-Celebrants. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Thomas. Boyle Funeral Home of Weston was in charge of the arrangements.
Patrick Flanagan
Patrick Craig Flanagan, 37, died suddenly on Jan. 21 at his home in Alexandria, Va.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. at the St. George United Methodist Church for all local family and friends.
Richard L. Schwartz ![]()
Richard Lee “Dick” Schwartz, 71, a well-known businessman and resident of Deerfield Village at Canaan Valley, departed this life early Tuesday morning, Feb. 6, at the home of his daughter, Sarah. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to cancer.
He was born Friday, Dec. 20, 1935, at Parkersburg, a son of the late Lewis Schwartz and Violet Wells Schwartz. On April 14, 1957, at Philippi, he was married to the former Patricia A. Bell, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Sarah B. Schwartz of Thomas; two brothers, David Schwartz of Fairmont and Don Schwartz of Laurel, Miss.; two sisters, Charlotte Dadisman of Fairmont and Nancy “Jo” Woodford of Richmond, Va.; one grandson, Richard Colby McKinnie of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and a special niece, Phoebe Mollard of Canaan Valley.
Dick was a graduate of Philippi High School with the class of 1953, a graduate of Fairmont State College with the class of 1959 and did his postgraduate studies at West Virginia University. He was a veteran of the Unjited States Marines. He was former owner and operator of the Fairmont Printing Company of Fairmont for eighteen years. Mr. Schwartz was proud of the fact that his company produced the magazine “Wild, Wonderful West Virginia.”
He was very active in community service, having served as president of the Jaycees, the Rotary, the Marion County Chamber of Commerce, the Tucker County Chamber of Commerce, the United Way and the Alumni Association of Fairmont State College. He was police commissioner and governor of the state District 7530 of Rotary. He served as a representative in Tucker and Preston counties in the West Virginia State Legislature.
In 1981, he retired and moved to Canaan Valley where he purchased what is now known as the Village Inn Motel, Big John’s Restaurant and the Canaan Valley Store. In 1998, he transferred his shares of stock in the store and restaurant and began his career in golfing. His grandson, Colby, accompanied him on many outings. His golfing friends each Tuesday were Dewey Rice, Richard Wolfe and “Jug” Ratcliffe. He played golf until the fall of 2006. He was an avid fan of the West Virginia Mountaineers and a member of Canaan Valley Baptist Church.
The family received friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 1:30 p.m. The Reverend Mark Joseph officiated and interment followed in Davis Cemetery at Davis.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to Canaan Valley Baptist Church, P.O.
