Kip Ambro

Kip Ambro, 54, passed into heaven on Jan 31, 2009 in Thomas.

He was born on March 26, 1955 and grew up in Ravenswood.  Kip graduated from Ravenswood High in 1973, before studying Anthropology at Marshall University in Huntington.

Kip was an inspired musician, an avid reader and a compassionate member of the Thomas community.  Kip was cherished and celebrated by his family in here. He spoke lovingly of his two sons and his brother and will be deeply missed. 

Kip will have a memorial stone placed in the garden at the Purple Fiddle in Thomas.  The burial of a number of his personal items will occur on what would have been his 55th birthday. 

Charles Ketterman 

Charles A. 'Pete' Ketterman Sr., 77, of Parsons departed this life Wednesday, Feb. 25 at his home, with his family at his bedside.  Death was attributed to cancer.

He was born Sunday, June 26, 1931 at Dry Fork, a son of the late Charles A. Ketterman and Annie O'Dell White Ketterman.  On April 18,, 1949 at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Mary Anna Gilmore, who preceded him in death April 9, 2001. 

Surviving are two sons Charles A. 'Butch' Ketterman Jr. and wife Nancy of Hendricks and Tracy John 'TJ' Ketterman and wife Billie of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; one sister Bernice G. Hymes of Parsons; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother W.P. 'Buck'  Ketterman; and three sisters Mary Edith McCrum, Betty Jo Carr and Hallie L. Sturms.

He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1949.  He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.  He was a former employee of the West Virginia Dept. of Highways as a Highway Equipment Superintendent, retiring in 1987.  He was a member of The Pythagoras Lodge #128 A.F. & A.M. of Parsons, American Legion at Romney and the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Rowlesburg.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb  Funeral Home of Parsons on Friday, Feb. 27 from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 11 a.m.  Pastor Loren Metzner and Pastor Danny Linger officiated and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, where the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion and the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars conducted full military rites.

Charles Moore

Charles Elwood Moore, 78, of Parsons, departed this life Monday, Feb. 23 at his home.  He had been in declining health.  He was born Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1930 at Russellville, a son of the late Delbert Moore and Ethel Nina Jones Moore.  On Sept. 30, 1954 at Geneva, N.Y., he was married to the former Betty Joyce Collins, who survives.  They had celebrated fifty-four years of marriage.

Also surviving are three sons Charles David Moore and wife Susan of Thomas, Delbert Michael Moore of Hendricks and Daniel Allen Moore and Allician of Elkins; five daughters Debra Kay Dix of Grant Town, Pamela Faye Carr of Michigan, Becky Lynn McGinnis and husband Harry of Rivesville, Kimberly Sue Persuttie and husband Sam of Shinnston and Donna Michelle Martin and husband Mark of New York; three brothers Wilbur Moore, Gordon Moore and Benny Moore, all of Summersville; two sisters Elizabeth Castillo and Ella Mae Miller, both of Jacksonville, Fla.' seventeen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren. 

Preceding him in death are one brother William Moore; and one sister Helen Sims.

He attended the schools of Fayette County, where he was a member of the football squad.  He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force.  He was a coalminer and a welder.  He was a former police officer at Davis.  He along with his wife owned and operated the T & M Market of Parsons for several years.  He was very active with his children in all sports activities.  He was an avid outdoorsman, loving to fish, hunt and camp. 

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday, Feb. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m.  Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Friday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m.  The Reverend Eli Hostetler officiated and interment followed at National Cemetery at Grafton, where full military rites were accorded.  The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.  Condollences may be expressed to the family at www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com 

Dorothy Scott

Dorothy Lee Scott, 80, of Thomas, died Friday Feb. 27 at Garrett County Memorial Hospital.

She was born Feb. 9, 1929 in Kempton, Md. a daughter of the late Elmer Gay Plum and Nellie Mae Nestor Plum.  Her husband Samuel Edward Scott, preceded her in death in 1990.

She is survived by four sons Edward (Becky) Scott of Wheeling, Steve (Linda) Scott of Hambleton, Davie (Patti) Scott of Davis and Randy (Donna) Scott of Moundsville; one daughter Nell Ann Scott of Thomas; four brothers Walt Plum of Tunnelton, Jack Plum of Hambleton, Elmer Plum of St. George and John Plum of Elkins; two sisters Elma Jean Poaloane of Ohio and Barbara Teets of Virginia; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by two brothers Dave and Robert Plum; and one sister Helen Ours.

Dorothy retired from the Davis Center where she had been a employed as a cook.  She was a member of OES Walter Chapter #73 and she enjoyed bowling, sewing and cooking.  She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and sister. 

Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral Home on Sunday, March 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the hour of service.  Funeral services were officiated by REv. Pam Scott.  Interment followed in DAvis Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made in Dorothy's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fla. 17, Chicago, Ill.  60601 or online at www.alz.org  Hinkle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
