Sara DeWalt

Sara Elizabeth DeWalt, 1, of La Plata, Md., passed away March 1, 2006 at JoOhns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md.

She was born March 3, 2004, in Prince Frederick, Md., the daughter of Jody Charlest and Shannon Lynn DeWalt of LaPLata Md.

She is survived by two brothers Jonathan and Christopher DeWalt; one sister Jessica DeWalt; and grandparents Gary and Nancy DeWalt, Steve and Cathy Ely and Chuck and Linda Machado. 

Funeral services were held in La Plata, Md. on Tuesday, March 7.  A graveside service will be held at Rosehill Cemetery, Thomas, on Saturday, March 11 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Darren Beachy officiating.  Arehart-Echols Funeral Home and Honkle Funeral Home are in charge of the arrangements. 

Reginald Gilmore

Reginald E. Gilmore, of Lewisburg, departed his earthly life in the early morning hours of Feb. 27, following a short illness at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. .

He was born May 12, 1927 in Parsons, and was extraordinarily devoted to his two daughters and their husbands: Elizabeth married to Warren Bagley of Maryville, Tenn. and Patricia married to Colonel Richard W. Thomas of Carlisle, Pa.  

R.E. graduated from Parsons High School and then served with the US Navy during World War II.  After being honorably discharged, he attended college and graduated from West Virginia University.  He moved to Lewisburg about 1950 and always claimed that God put a little extra beauty in Greenbrier Valley.  During his career, he worked for the WV Dept. of Health and WV Dept. of Welfare, retiring as area administrator of the local WV Dept. of Human Services.  In the mid-1960's he and several prominent citizens of the are were instrumental in creating Greenbrier Manor.  Mr. Gilmore was the last of the original members of the board of directors. 

He had been a member of the BPO Elks for 43 years, a 50 year member of the Grand Lodge of West Virginia, A.F.&A.M. and a Shriner. 

In addition to his love of children and dogs, he was an avid supporter and 'sound' walking horses, being a lifetime member of the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeder's & Exhibitors Association.  In 2002 and 2003 he had a naturally shod Champion Pleasure walking horse, CAsh on the Barrel. 

The family invited the friends he treasured so much to share memories and fellowship with them on Friday, March 3 from 4 to 8 p.m. in a meeting room at the Elks Club on Rt. 219 North of Lewisburg. 

Graveside services were at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 4 at Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery, Hoke's Mill Road, Organ Cave, with Rev. Ron Miller officiating.  Arrangements were by Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg.  

Jack Lantz

Jack M. Lantz, age 75, of Woodstock, Va., died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006 at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, Woodstock, Va.

A memorial service was conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2006 at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg, Va. with Rev. Stephanie Sault and Rev. Nolas Crowder officiating. 

Mr. Lantz was born July 17, 1930 in Baltimore, Md., the son of the late Jacob M. Lantz and Hazel Ambrose Lantz Mateer. 

He was the retired president of R.B. Heap Construction Company of Virginia and a member of Stephens City United Methodist Church and Shauquon Ruritan Club, Stephens City. 

Surviving are his wife, Loretta Kelley Lantz; his daughter Donna E. Huber of Fairfax; a sister Karen Hilaire of Fishkill, N.Y.  A sister Janet Lantz is deceased. 

Honorary pallbearers were Dennis Flanagan, Donald Stewart, Kenneth Hunter, Charles Hensley, Kenneth Seal, Ronald Miller, James Ambrose and James Hilaire. 

The family received friends at the funeral home on Friday, March 3 from 7 to 9 p.m. 

Memorials may be made to Stephens City United Methodist Church, 5291 Main Street, Stephens City, Va.  22655.  Stover Funeral Home Strasburg, Va. was in charge of the arrangements.  

Gerald Nestor

Gerald Nestor, age 90 years, a well-known farmer of the Leadmine community, departed this life Monday morning, March 6, 2006 at his home.

He was born Tuesday, March 30, 1915, at Leadmine, a son of the late Lloyd and Nellie Swisher Nestor.  On May 6, 1951, at Red House, Md., he was married to the former Opal Knotts Nestor, who survives. They celebrated fifty-four years of marriage.

Also surviving are one son, Marshall Nestor and wife, Libby of Kasson; four daughters, Carol Hovatter and husband Ira Gene, of Kasson, Retha Plageman and husband J.B., of Mineral, Va., Janet Roy and fiancee Eric Bennett, of Leadmine and Geraldine Cochran and husband, Bill of Leadmine; fourteen grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers, Luther and Harold Nestor

He attended Pleasant Vale School at Leadmine. He lived his whole life on the family farm, where he was a farmer. He was a construction worker by trade. He was a member of the Tucker County Farm Bureau for more than forty years. He was a member of Tygart Valley Soil Conservation and was on the board for thirty years. He attended Leadmine United Methodist Church. He was a member of Pythagoras Lodge #128 A.F. & A.M. of Parsons.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Thursday, March 9, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Neil Parsons will officiate and interment will follow in Bonnifield Cemetery at Leadmine where the Pythagoras Lodge #128 A.F. & A.M. will conduct Masonic graveside rites.

Anna Pase

Anna Veronica Ross Pase, age 85 years, a lifelong resident of Coalton, departed this life Wednesday morning, March 1, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health.

She was born Thursday, Nov. 18, 1920, at Coalton, a daughter of the late Emedio Ross and Agata Soccoccia Ross.  On Jan. 31, 1942, in Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church at Coalton, she was married to Leo Franklin Pase Sr., who preceded her in death.

Surviving are one son, Leo Franklin Pase Jr. and JoAnn of Coalton; one grandson, Capt. Christopher Colin Pase and fiancee Barbara Madray, serving with the United States Army, Fourth Infantry in Iraq; one great grandson, Caleb Michael Pase of Copperas Cove, Texas; seven step great-grandchildren, Shane and Dakota Dollar, Nathan and Zack Yeager, Casey and Eric George and Deena Shonk; one brother, Lawrence Ross and wife Katheryn of Elkins; two sisters, Edith DiBacco of Thomas and Frances Triplett and husband, George of Elkins; and 11 nephews and six nieces.

Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were four brothers, Julie, John, Guido and Carmen L. Ross; two sisters, Mary DiBacco and Antoinette Elizabeth Colabrese; and one nephew and one niece.

She was a graduate of Coalton High School with the Class of 1938. She, along with her husband, owned and operated the former Pase Grocery Store at Coalton. She retired as a cook with the Coalton Twelve Year School after twenty-seven years of service. She was a member of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church.

The family received friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 5.  On Sunday, March 5 at 8 p.m., at the funeral home, a prayer service was recited by the Reverend Father John Vincent DiBacco. On Monday morning, March 6, Mrs. Pase was moved to Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church, where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. The Reverend Father John Vincent DiBacco will be the Presider and interment followed in Saint Brendan Cemetery at Elkins.
