Sarah A. Ashby
Sarah Ann Ashby, 31, of Thomas, passed away March 8 at her home.
She was born April 22, 1975, at Elkins, a daughter of Junior E. Howell and the late Prudence Ann Scallon Howell.
Survivors include husband, Gregory John Ashby; son Travis Waylon Ashby; daughters, Claudia Ann Ashby, Dominique Paige Ashby and Xzandra Aaliyah Ashby; father-in-law, Ellis Ashby Jr. of Thomas; and grandmother-in-law, Helen Joyce Ziesemer of St. George.
Sarah was a housewife and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Thomas.
Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral Home on Sunday, March 11 from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral services were held on Monday, March 12 at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Charles Vorderburg officiating. Interment will follow in Pifer Mountain Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Homes is in charge of the arrangements.
Freddie Bonner
Freddie Rachel Bonner, 84, of Gladwin, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2007, at her home.
She was born Jan. 6, 1923, at Oceola, a daughter of the late Don and Irabelle Teter Waybright.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas L. Bonner, two sons, James Bonner and wife Betty of Gladwin and Thomas J. Bonner and wife Anna of Kerens; two daughters, Wilma Jean Wing and husband Floyd of Waldorf, Md., and Wanda Jane Jernigan and husband Sam of Arlington, Va.; three sisters, Erma Gordon of Keyser, Shirley McBee of Bowden and Loraine Fowler of Points; 12 grandsons, Howie and Timothy White, Jimmy, Tommy, Wesley and Michael Hedrick, Jamie, Anthony, Matthew, Joshua, Jordan and Jerry Bonner; four granddaughters, Sherry Campise, Janice Thompson, Julie Wyatt and Nicole Wing; and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bonner was preceded in death by one son, Jerry D. Bonner; and six brothers, Carl, Denny, Willard, Earl, Sturl and Andrew Waybright.
Mrs. Bonner was a homemaker and enjoyed fishing, crocheting and was a wonderful cook. She was known as “Granny” by her family and friends and was an active member of Flanagan Hill United Methodist Church.
Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral Home on Monday, March 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services were held on Tuesday March 13 at 11 a.m. at Flanagan Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. J.J. Johnson officiating, assisted by the Rev. James Martin. Interment followed in the Flanagan Hill Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Hilda Goss
Hilda Elizabeth Gauer Goss, 85, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Saturday morning, March 10, at her home following a short illness.
She was born Friday, Jan. 27, 1922 at Leadmine, a daughter of the late Charles Herbert Gauer and Mary Jane Purnell Gauer. On Oct. 5, 1942 at Oakland, MD., she was married to her beloved husband Donald Carl Goss, who survives in Parsons. The had celebrated sixty-four years of marriage.
Also surviving are one son Danny Charles Goss and wife Linda of Parsons; two daughters Donna Carr and husband Ernest of Virginia Beach, Va. and Jeanne Bonner and husband Garry E. of Parsons; two brothers Donald Gauer and wife Diana of West Milton, Ohio and Ronald Gauer and wife Janet of Eaton, Ohio; two sisters Ruth Bright of Trotwood, Ohio and Leora Lee and husband Conley of Englewood, Ohio; seven grandchildren Beth Goss McCleery of Chesapeake, VA., Danny Allen Goss of Parsons, Jeana Carr Holbert and Holly Carr Aguirre of Chesapeake, Va., Julie Carr Bright and Michael Bonner both of Hendricks and Amy Bonner Wagner of Parsons; fourteen great-grandchildren Jacob and Matthew McCleery, Zachary Carr, Ryan and Jennifer Rossi, Caitlyn, Holbert, Daniel Tyler Moore, Danielle Elizabeth Paige Moore, Nicholas Carr, Theodore Koda Leshen, Brandon Bright, Slayter and Shayne-Michael Liller and Treye Wagner.
She was preceded in death by two brothers Clinton and Delbert Gauer one sister, Lona Sell and one granddaughter Heather Elaine Carr.
She was a graduate of Thomas High School with the class of 1939. A devoted Christian, Mrs. Goss attended the First Baptist Church in Parsons.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday, March 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Wednesday, Mach 14, 2007 at 11 a.m. Pastor Allen D. Crosten will officiate and interment will follow at the Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Hilda Elizabeth Gauer Goss. Beulah Heckler
Beulah Viola Heckler, 86, a resident of Beverly, passed away Tuesday evening, March 6 at the residence of CArl and Janice Daniels where she resided for the past 10 years.
She was born Dec. 2, 1920, at St. George, a daughter of the late William Francis and Lillie Etta Davis Poling.
On Sept. 3, 1939 at Oakland, Md., she was married to Durl “Bub” Heckler, who preceded her in death in 1999.
Surviving are three sons Darrell Heckler of St. George, Dorsey Heckler of East Dailey and Hilrey Heckler of Franklin; one daughter Janice Daniels of Beverly; one sister Dortha Ernst of Moorefield; seventeen grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Also preceding her in death were two sons, Larry and Roger
Heckler; three grandsons Gary Lynn and Larry Dale Heckler and Jeremy Todd
Heckler, who died recently on July 30 2006; six sisters and three brothers.
Mrs. Heckler was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1940. She
was employed for many years at the Propst Grocery store in Parsons and was a
dietitian for at the Tucker County Hospital in Parsons.
She was one of Jehovah’s Witness.
A memorial service was conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Elkins.
Larry Sweatt
Larry Sweatt, 63, a former resident of Sugarlands Community, Holly Meadows Community and more recently a resident of Concord, N.C., departed this life early Saturday morning, March 10, 2007, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Monday, Oct. 11, 1943, at Greenwood County, S.C., a son of the late Clyde Sweatt and Josephine Chastain Sweatt. On April 19, 1974, at Greenville, S.C., he was married to the former Truby Jackson Sweatt, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Gene Sweatt of Greenwood, S.C.; three daughters, Belinda Davis, Lavinia Kellett and Keith, all of Greenville, S.C., and Michelle Dilly and husband David of the Moore Community; two brothers, Leon Sweatt and Buddy Sweatt, both of South Carolina; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were three brothers and two sisters.
He attended the schools of South Carolina. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and the National Guard.
He was a coal miner having worked for Mettikki Coal Co. and he was a Diesel Mechanic. He was an active member of Parsons Church of God at Parsons. He was an avid outdoorsman.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Wednesday, March 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Thursday, March 15, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Eli Hostetler will officiate and interment will follow in Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Larry Sweatt.
