Lillie Ball

Lillie M. Stiltner Ball, age 90, of Geneva-on-the-Lake, died Thursday, Feb. 9, at UHHS Memorial Hospital of Geneva.  

She was born in Logan, a daughter of John C. and Susan K. (thornhill) Wright and had beena resident of Ashtabula Co. since 1965.

She married Hayward P. Ball on April 22, 2000 in Ashtabula. 

Friends were received on Monday, Feb. 13 at the Walker Funeral Home, Geneva, Ohio.  Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at the Free Pentecostal Fellowship Church with the Rev. Robert Faulk and sister Janie McGee officiating.  Burial followed in the Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.  Arragnements by C.A. Walker Funeral Home. 

Mildred Pleasant

Mildred "Betty" Lucille Swisher Pleasant, 91, a resident of Oak Hill died Thursday, March 16.

She was born on Nov. 25, 1914 in Jenningston.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Allen Pleasant and a son. 

Survivors include two daughters; one brother; one sister; Kathryn Koerner; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. 

Visitation was held at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill on Friday, March 17.  Graveside rites and committal service was held on march 18 at the Parsons Cemetery in parsons.  The Rev. David Sneed officiated.  The Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill was in charge of the arrangements.   

Gay Shahan

Gay Ross Shahan, 88, of McGaheysville, Va., passed away on march 16, 2006, at harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center. 

Mr. Shahan was born on July 3, 1917, in St. George.  He was the son of the late Ernest and Lula robinson Shahan.  He was also preceded in death by a son Alfred "Al" Gay Shahan (1991); and eight brothers Virgil (1974), Ira (1987), Gerald (1989), Willson (1990), Everett (1996), Allen (1998), Walter (2000) and Darl (2001). 

On Sept 18, 1937, he married Violet Marie Miller Shahan, who survives.  Also surviving are three sons Melvin Ross Shahan and wife Evelyn, of Trevett Maine, Philip Truman Shahan and partner Michael Stewart of Key West, Fla., and John Kevin Shahan and wife Kim, of Harrisonburg; four siblings Alton Shahan Morgantown, Mrs. Edith Koob of Seattle, Wash., Millie Carlson of Edmonds, Wash., and Ann Creekmore of Leesburg, Va.; several grandchildren and a special great-grandchild, Christian "Bubby" Shahan.  

He graduated from Parsons High School and attended WVU.  Mr. Shahan served in the Army National Guard.  He received degrees from Southeastern University and Biscayne College.  He served 27 years as a special agent with the FBI under J. Edgar Hoover.  After retiring from the FBI, he was a professor of Criminal Justice at Miami-Dade Community College for eight years.  In his retirement, he ran his own private investigating business. 

Mr. Shahan was a member of the Port Republic Ruritan club, where he was known for his special secret recipe for barbecue chicken. He was also a member of the Port Republic Methodist church, a lifetime member of the NRA, and a member of the society of Former Special Agents of the FBI Blue Ridge Chapter. 

The family received friends at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg on Monday, March 20 from 7 to 8 p.m.  The Rev. Harold Webster conducted a funeral service at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21 at the Port Republic Methodist church in Harrisonburg.  Burial followed in the Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

William Reeves 

William Morgan Reeves, 63, died peacefully with dignity and courage on Monday, March 13, at his home in Youghiogheny Forest, Aurora. 

Born October 31, 1942 in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of Gerhard and Eileen Wolf Reeves, both deceased.  bill grew up in Pittsburgh, Pa., but spent his weekends and summers at his family's cabin in Aurora.  In the mid sixties, Bill moved to Deep Creek Lake, Md. where he established Reeves Fence Construction, a trade he learned in Pittsburgh working with his father.  During this time, Bill also owned and operated the Cellar Door on Deep Creek Lake.  In the early seventies, seeking to return to his home in West Virginia, he opened  Mountain Village Inn at Silver lake and expanded his fence business by founding Mountain State wire and Fence Company.  finally in the early nineties, bill opened the Brookside Inn and moved his fence companies to Aurora.  His purchase of the Brookside Inn was a bow in his interest in regional tourism, local history and historic preservation.    

An avid newspaper reader, Bill maintained subscriptions to may of the small town papers from the region where he kept track of the local football and basketball teams.  He loved sports and credited the discipline of the game with getting him through school.  He played football at Mt. Lebanon High School (Pittsburgh, Pa.) where he was chosen to compete in the "Big 33" all star game in Hershey, Pa., in 1961.  Bill also played football in college receiving scholarships from both North Dakota State University (Fargo, N.D.) and Western New Mexico University (Silver City, N.M.).  In the forty years that Bill lived in this area, he thoroughly enjoyed his participation on several local teams including softball, basketball and tennis and could always be seen either in the stands or at the sidelines supporting the sports activities of all of his children.

Bill bravely faced cancer that eventually took his life and leaves behind him many loving friends and a family who miss him dearly.  He is survived by his wife Michele Moure-Reeves; his twin brother James Keith Reeves and Jim's wife Mary Jane of Hilton Head, S.C.; his sister Linda Sue Reeves of new York City, N.Y. and his sister Karen Beth Reeves and her husband Douglas Chadwick of Whitefish, Mt.; by one sons, four daughters and three step sons and their families Michael Morgan Reeves of silver Spring, Md., MarLisa Isgro and her husband Russ of Cincinnati, Ohio, Charlena Janet Reeves, Gina Angelique Reeves and Nichole Annette Reeves, all of Oakland, MD., Andrew Orr and his wife Penny of Leesburg, Va., Robert Martin Orr and his wife Tina of Oakland, Md. and Michael Christian Elliott of Deep Creek, Md.; and by his four deeply loved grandchildren, Samuel Isgro, Ava Elizabeth Isgro, Taylor Orr and Anthony Orr.  Bill maintained a close and loving relationship with his family and friends.  Through their love and tender and compassionate care and the kindness and consideration of the staff of Hospice Care Corporation, Arthurdale, he was able to pass gently through the last few months.  

Bill's request for cremation was honored.  In his memory, a private gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's name to Hospice Care corporation, PO Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520. (Hinkle Funeral Home, Inc., Davis).  

Glenn Teagarden 

Glenn Teagarden, 56, of Reese St., Oakland, Md., died Sunday, March 12 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown. 

He was born Nov. 2, 1949, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late Kenneth and Geraldine (Martin) Teagarden Sr. 

He was a member of Bethel United Methodist church.  He was employed for 13 years with various HP Stores where he was a manager and the youngest supervisor in the company's history.  He was a truck driver for 15 years. He was a manager for Milers Market.  He was currently employed at the Keyser's Ridge Truck Stop.

He is survived by his wife Linda R. Teagarden of Oakland; two daughters, Tracy d. Lambert of Morgantown and Angela J. Jamison of Oakland, Md.; two sisters Linda Cutright of Thomas and Sheila Blosser of Parsons; one brother Kenneth L. Teagarden Jr. of Parsons; and three grandchildren.  

At his request his body will be cremated.  A memorial service was held at the Nethel United Methodist Church, Mt. Lake Park, Md. on Thursday, March 16 at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Darren Jones officiating.  The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Southern Garrett County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 378, Oakland, Md.  21550, or to the Bethel United Methodist church Building Fund, Corner Baltimore and H St., Mt. Lake Park, Md. 21550.  The Stewart Funeral Home, 32 south Second St., Oakland, Md., 21550 is in charge of the arrangements.
