Robert Cousin

Robert Cousin, 73, of Davis, passed away April 10, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home.  He was born Aug. 16, 1932, at Thomas, a son of the late John Wesley and Hazel Hedrick Cousin.

He is survived by his wife, Mary M. White Cousin; four sons, Rick and Pam White, Steven Wayne Cousin, Robert Michael and Lisa Cousin all of Davis and Karl Lynn “Jake” and Paulita Cousin of Hambleton; one daughter, Deborah Jean Plum of Davis; two brothers, Tom Cousin of Beverly and Albert Cousin of Maryland; six sisters, Freda Kovach of Davis, Eileen Heldreth and Jacqueline Thompson, both of Fairmont, Patricia Wiley of Marlinton, Virginia Wilson of Parsons and Geraldine Burger of Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren, John and Brittany, Jakob and Lonnie, Paige, Sabrina, Travis and Matthew; and one great-grandchild, Kashmira.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rudy and John; and three sisters, Vivian, Sue and Helena.

Mr. Cousin was a veteran of the US Army having served in the Korean Conflict where he received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He then joined the US Air Force and retired after 20 years. He was a member of FOE 936 and was a Methodist by faith.

Graveside services were held at Davis Cemetery on Wednesday, April 12 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Pat Cassidy officiating. Hinkle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.   

Richard L. Roy

Richard Lee Roy, age 67, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Monday morning, April 17, at the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Medical Center in Clarksburg following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Feb. 26, 1939, at Parsons, a son of the late Howard “Hank” Roy and Velma Ruth “Poke” Roy.  During June of 1972, in Arizona, he was married to Alexine Makil Roy, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Paul Roy and wife Marie of Washington, D.C., and Bobby Roy and wife Courtney of Wake Forrest, N.C.; three daughters, Brenda Kaminski and husband Steve of Dayton, Ohio, Denise Snyder of Elkins and Patricia Simmons and husband Eugene “Harry” of Elkins; four brothers, Joseph Allen Roy and wife Linda of Fayetteville, N.C., James Howard Roy of Weston, Steven Dale Roy of Parsons and William Lynn Roy of Ohio; one sister, Tonya Ruth Barkley and husband Daniel of Blackman Heights community; sixteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1956. He was veteran of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict, with 20 years of service. He was a dietician for the former Memorial General Hospital at Elkins and also the Davis Center at Davis. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Parsons. 

He loved the outdoors, camping and hunting various game, especially turkey hunting. He, of course, enjoyed going to McDonalds everyday to have his coffee and chat with friends and acquaintances when he was able. Richard will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

The family will hold a private life celebration with Jeff Anderson officiating. Mr. Roy’s request for cremation will be honored and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons.
