William Ambrose

William Brown Ambrose, 85, a resident of the Moore Community, Parsons, departed this life early Sunday morning, May 10, at the Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins.

He was born Monday, Nov. 12, 1923 at Hendricks, a son of the late James Burr Ambrose and Mable H. Brown Ambrose. On Jan. 20, 1970 at Red House, Md., he was united in marriage to the former Marlene F. Lantz, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons Robert Douglas Lantz and wife Cynthia of West Milford and James Thomas Ambrose and wife Melanie of the Moore Community, Parsons; eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

He is the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by one daughter Ann Marie Cross; one brother James Burr Ambrose Jr.; four sisters Hazel Mateer, Elizabeth Cosman, Mildred Allender and Marjorie Pownall.

He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1942 and he attended Potomac State College. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, 413 AAA Gun

Battalion, serving during World War II at the Battle of the Bulge and D-Day. He was a construction worker. He was a Sunday School Teacher for many years and a member of the United Methodist Church at Hendricks. He was an avid fisherman and a great historian story-teller.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday, May 12 from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Wednesday, May 13 at 11 a.m. The Rev. John Morrison and Rev. Loren Metzner will officiate and interment will follow at the McNeeley Cemetery at Hendricks, where the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion and the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker Co. Veterans Association will conduct full military rites.

Michael Carr

Michael Wayne Carr, 32, a resident of Parsons and more recently of Cumberland, Md.,

departed this life early Sunday morning, May 10. Death was attributed to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born Monday, May 9, 1977 at Elkins, a son to Bev Carr Simmons, who survives in Ohio.

Also surviving are three brothers Jimmy Simmons of Parsons, David Simmons of Morgantown and Chris Simmons of Pa. Mike was raised as a brother to Linda Canfield and husband Charles of Parsons, Terry Carr of Ludington, Mich., Bonita Yeager and husband Gene of Massillon, Ohio, Susan Rohr and husband Jamie of Parsons; step-father, David Simmons; special friend Jesse Wotring of Cumberland, Md.; friends Neil Parsons, Desi Parsons, Chris Bright, Marley Bright, Loren Metzner, Michalla Metzner and Wayne Hanlon; special cousins Vincent Canfield, Jay Rohr, Travis Carr, Christy Savage, Jeannette Hendrickson and Nick Carr; and numerous friends and family. Mike had a special love for all the children in the family.

Preceding him in death are his maternal grandparents Lindsey and Gertrude Carr; uncle Thomas Carr; and cousins Lindsey Carr Rohr, Katie Yeager and Ashley Lipscomb. He was a graduate of Tucker County High School with the Class of 1996. He was an employee of PSI Road Construction. Mike will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was well known for his zest for life and his wonderful sense of humor. Mike loved taking care of his family, the family farm, hunting, camping and four wheeling.

George Deitz

A memorial service for George Densil Deitz, 80, was held Saturday, May 9, at the Springdale Church of Christ in West Virginia. George passed on Feb. 24, after a year long struggle from the effects of a stroke. He was the son of the late Dudley and Virginia Nicely Deitz.

George was born on Jan. 2, 1929, in Greenbrier County and moved to Baltimore, Md. in the early 50’s. He was employed by American Standard in Md. and Ky. Until retiring in 1987.

Those left to cherish his memories are his beloved wife of 58 years Hallena Deitz,; he was the devoted father of daughter Sandra Cook and her husband Ron Cook; and a loving PopPop to his grandson Keith Cook of Joppa, Md. He was also loved by his extended family, friends and members of the Springdale Church of Christ, where he ministered and served the Lord for over twenty years.

While living in Baltimore he was a member of the Eastside Church of Christ where he served as an Elder. George loved being around his family and friends. He also enjoyed Blue Grass music, old westerns and reading.

Anne Denison

Anne Catherine Denison, 82, a longtime resident of Holly Meadows, Parsons and more recently a resident of Elkins Manor, departed this life Monday afternoon, Dec. 29, 2008 at Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Thursday, May 21 at 11 a.m. Father Timothy Grassi will officiate. Interment of Anne’s remains will take place on June 1, at the Aurora Cemetery. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the American Heart Assoc. 1110 Prestwick Avenue, Morgantown, WV. 26508. Marcie Fidler

Marcie Lynn Fidler, 36, of Weston, passed away on Saturday, May 2 at her residence.

She was born on Nov. 29, 1972 in Randolph County, a daughter of Kay Lynn White Fidler of Buffalo Lake and the late John Fidler Sr.

She is survived by her son Gavin Michael Fidler; her brother Timothy Luke Fidler and his wife Suzanne of Buffalo Lake; maternal grandmother Loletta R. White of St. George; her companion Clint McVay of Weston; and a step-brother John Fidler Jr. of Buffalo Lake.

Ms. Fidler was previously employed at Rite Aid in Clarksburg as a cashier and at the Plantation Restaurant in Jane Lew.

Margaret Gray

Margaret Pauline Tahaney Gray , 80, of Parsons, departed this life early Monday morning, May 11 at the Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins.

She was born Monday, June 25, 1928 at Parsons, a daughter of the late Edgar bHerbert Tahaney and Florna Agnes Strawderman Tahaney Swisher. On Feb. 15, 1948 at St. John’s United Methodist Church at Parsons, she was united in marriage to Odford Olin ‘Buck’ Gray, who survives. They had celebrated sixty-one years of marriage.

Also surviving are two sons Patrick Allen Gray and wife Lynda of Parsons and Timothy Lee Gray of Shinnston; daughter-in-law Carolyn Myers Gray of Parsons; two step-brothers Dick and Dave Swisher; two step-sisters Peggy Moore and Katie Rohrbaugh; two grandchildren Kelly and Sabrina; and five great-grandchildren Sterling, Brailey, Abram, Gavin and Greylyn.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by one son Gregory Lynn Gray; two step-brothers Bob and Don Swisher; and three step-sisters Nina Duke, Betsy Swisher and Harriet Rosier Murphy.

She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1946. She was employed at the former Cunningham’s Dept. Store and the former H.P. Store in Parsons and she worked for Mary Kay. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the St. John’s United Methodist Women.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday, May 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Friday, May 15 at 11 a.m. The Reverend John Morrison will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. Howard Judy

Howard Ray Judy, 74, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Monday, May 11, at Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown.

Mary Hipp

Mary Alice Hipp, 72 of Elkins, passed away May 3 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

She was born Nov. 2, 1936 in Davis, a daughter of the late Frederick Austin Cosner and Georgie Ellen Nelson. Her husband Weldon Leon Hipp Sr. preceded her in death.

Surviving are seven sons Weldon Hipp Jr., Calvert Hipp Sr., Howard Hipp Sr., Wesley Hipp Sr. and Frederick Hipp Sr. all of Md., and James Hipp Sr. and Douglas Hipp Sr. both of Pa.; three daughters Teresa Andrews and Helen Anthony of Fla. and Pamela Luckart of W.Va.; three brothers Frederick A. Cosner of Ohio, Robert L. Cosner of Md. and Buddy Cosner of N.C.; one sister Barbara Summerfield of W.Va.; 29 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was a homemaker and a Protestant by faith. She enjoyed gospel music.

Friends were received Wednesday, May 6 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Hinkle Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 7 at 11 a.m. at Hinkle Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Eli Hostetler officiating. Interment followed at Mount Storm Cemetery.

Hinkle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Vonda R. Moore

Vonda R. Moore, 66, a former resident of Parsons, and a resident of Rockville, Md., departed this life Monday evening May 4, at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.

She was born Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1942 at Parsons, a daughter of the late Howard E. Moore and Eva E. Crosten Moore. She had never married.

Surviving are three brothers Donald K. Moore and wife Annabel, Howard Dale Moore and wife Linda and Ronald A. Moore and wife Naomi, all of Parsons; two sisters Vera Hilliard and husband Millard of O’Fallon, Mo. and Barbara G. McDonald and husband Jack of Holly Meadows; several nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and nephews and several great-great-nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are two brothers Frank W. Moore and Ralph L. Moore.

She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1960. She was employed as a Legal Secretary for various law firms in Washington, D.C. She was a contributing member of the Humane Society. She loved to read and was an avid sports fan, especially fond of baseball and football.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Friday, May 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor Saturday, May 9 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Eli Hostetler officiated and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
