Harold E. Helmick
Harold Eugene Helmick, 60, a resident of the Blackman Flats
Community, Hambleton and Hutchinson, departed this life Sunday, May 13, 2007, in
Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown, as a result of injuries from a motorcycle
accident.
He was born Thursday, July 18, 1946, at Cumberland, Md., a son of the late
Samual French Helmick and Margaret Galford Helmick, who survives at Hambleton.
On Feb. 11, 1967, at Red House, Md., he was married to the former Linda Lou
Murphy. They had celebrated 40 years of marriage.
Surviving are two daughters, Pam and husband, Tim Knotts, of Sugarlands and
Ronda and husband, Mike Adkins, of Parsons; one brother, Russel “Rusty” and
wife, Trudy Long Helmick, of Hambleton; two sisters, Carolyn and husband, Phil
Sherman, of Horseshoe Run and Phyllis and husband, Neal Kidwell, of Parsons;
four grandchildren, Travis and Lindsey Knotts and Sarah and Michael Adkins; and
several nieces and nephews
He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1965. He was a member
of the U.S. Army from 1965 through 1968 and later served with the West Virginia
National Guard. During his time with the Army, he earned Sharpshooter Badge,
National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Marksman Badge. Harold
was a former employee at D&W Truck Lines for several years and at the time
of his death, he was employed by Consol Energy, Robinson Run Mine. He was a coal
miner since 1978 and worked in numerous mines. He was a member of Pythagoras
Lodge 128 A.F. & A.M. of Parsons, York Rite Lodges of Elkins and Osiris
Shriners of Wheeling.
Harold was a loving husband and father. He treasured his grandchildren and they
adored their Pap. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a great passion for
motorcycle riding. He was a very giving and generous man; even in death, he gave
to others.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons
Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral
home parlor Thursday, May 17, at 1 p.m. The Rev. J. Michael Lantz will officiate
and interment will follow in Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons where H.W. Daniels
Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign War will
conduct full military rites. Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the

Hilbert Johnson ![]()
Hilbert C. "Johnny" Johnson, age 81, a resident of Little Rock Ark., passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at the Briarwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center due to Alzheimer's.
Mr. Johnson was born May 19, 1925, in Dry Fork to Manderville and Estle (Davis) Johnson. Mr. Johnson was retired after 36 years as a purchasing agent for Union Carbide Corp. in Institute W. Va. He served in the Army as a medic in the 175th infantry during World War II and was wounded on D-Day at Normandy Beach, where he was awarded the Purple Heart.
During his 36 years in South Charleston, W. Va., he worked part-time for the T.P Phillips Real Estate Co., he was an active member of the Fifth Avenue Church of God, a Boy Scout leader and an active member of the First Church of God in Winter Haven, Fla., until he moved to Little Rock in 2004. After marrying Katie they moved to Lake Wales, Fla., and then to Winter Haven Fla. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Thelma and second wife, Katie.
Johnny is survived in death by his loving family: son Bill C. Johnson of Monticello, Fla.; daughter Debi Bean of Little Rock; sister Wanda Bishop of Chesapeake, Md.; three grandchildren Christopher of Knoxville, Tenn., Paul Jarvis of Scottsdale, Ariz., Michael Brody Johnson of Vienna, W.Va.; three step-grandchildren Dr. Ashley Bean, M.D., of Little Rock, Ark, Dr. Brian Bean, M.D., of Little Rock, Ark., Tami Bean of Little Rock, Ark.; two great-granddaughters Brittany Johnson of Knoxville, Tenn., and Abygail Johnson of Vienna, W. Va.; five step-great-grandchildren Jennifer Heim of Monticello, Fla., Jason Heim of Monticello, Fla., Robyn Tucker of Knoxville, Tenn., Anthony Bean of Little Rock, Ark., Andrew Bean of Little Rock, Ark.
Visitation was held Saturday May 12, 2007, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (before services) at the Kersey Funeral Home, 108 East Lake Stella Drive, Auburndale, Fla. Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Saturday, May 12 at the funeral home. Interment was at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla. Arrangements by Kelsey Funeral Home, 108 East Lake Stella Drive, Auburndale, Fla., 33823.
Carol Smith
Funeral services for Carol Jean (Parsons) Smith, 64, of Eastlake, a homemaker, were held at Monreal Funeral Home, 35400 Curtis Blvd., Eastlake.
Mrs. Smith died April 27, at home surrounded by her family.
She was born FEb.1 4, 1943 in Benbush. She had lived in Eastlake for the past 44 years.
She was very devoted to her faith as a born again Christian. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening and shopping.
Mrs. Smith was the former owner of T.J.'s Lakeview restaurant in Willowick.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years Raymond L., "Bill" Smith; children William (Karen) Smith; Stacey Smith,. Tracy (Tony) Spyridakis, Gregory (Elizabeth) Smith Jr. and Adam (Jennifer) Smith Sr.; grandchildren April Smith, Matthew and Megan Smith, Amanda Spyridakis, Gregory Jr., Ashley and Tyler Smith and Courtney and Adam Smith Jr.; great-grandson Jonathon Slaper; siblings Joan (Glenn) Wilcox, Susan Gilmour, Doug (Kim) Parsons and Deborah (Dean) Burton; and many nieces and nephews.
Her parents Clifford and Naomi Parsons are deceased.
Friends were received at the funeral home. Burial followed in Willoughby Plains Road Cemetery.
