Cecile Crapps

Cecile Simpson Crapps, 92,of West Columbia, S.C. passed away on May 11 at home.

She was born Dec. 23, 1916 in Parsons, a daughter of the late Simon Cecil and Maude Young Simpson. Mr. Simpson had a dry goods store (SC Simpson and Co) on Front Street in Parsons in the 1920’s. Her husband, Henry Eddie Crapps, preceded her in death in 1969.

Mrs. Crapps is survived by her son Richard H. Crapps (and Joyce) of High Point, N.C.; two daughters Linda Jumper (and Robert Jr.) and Roberta Riddle (and Darrell) both of West Columbia, S.C.; as well as six grandchildren Hank Capps (and Jennifer) of Huntersville, N.C., Amanda Bannister (and Patrick) of Walhalla, S.C., Elizabeth Peters (and Matt) of Villa Rica, Ga., Matt Riddle (and Kelty) of Columbia, S.C., Luke Jumper (and Brittany) of Lexington, S.C. and Rhett Riddle of West Columbia, S.C.; and great-grandchildren Lindsay Capps, Brayden Peters, Austin Capps and Maycee Jumper. She is also survived by two nieces Jean Turner of Eldersburg, Md. and Deborah Meetze of West Columbia, S.C.

Cecile was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by her sisters Florene Simpson Calhoun (Harlan), Catherine Simpson Meetze

(Colie) and Marjorie Simpson Cook (Perry). Cecile moved to Columbia, S.C. in 1929 and along with her husband owned West Columbia Jewelers on 12th St. in West Columbia, S.C. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of West Columbia for 63 years and recently South Lexington Baptist Church. Mrs. Crapps was always actively involved in her church where she taught Beginners Class for 20 plus years and worked in missions with young girls.

She loved her Bible Studies and faithfully attended her church as often as she could. She returned to Parsons several times during her lifetime to visit with friends and enjoy the beauty of W.Va.

Cecile was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt.

Funeral services for Cecile Crapps were held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 14 at South Lexington Baptist Church. Revs. Robert Jumper and Richard Crapps officiated. Burial was in Celestial Memorial Gardens. Thompson Funeral Home in Lexington, S.C. was in

charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be sent to South Lexington Baptist Church Building Fund, 116 Brevard Pkwy, Lexington S.C. 29073.

Donald Fink

Donald Michael Fink, 77, a resident of East Main St., Clarksburg went to be with the Lord Friday, May 15 at Ruby Memorial Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born April 3, 1932 in Tucker Co., a son of the late Luther "Creed" and Gertrude

Evelyn (Smith) Fink. He was united in marriage June 30, 1950 to Mary Jo (Marks) Fink, who survives.

Also surviving are four daughters Donna and husband Alan Walker of Thomas, Bobbie and husband Bob Quattro of Davis, Marianne Lambert of Pierce and Kris and husband Rob Jones of Philippi; three sons David and wife Beverly Fink of Manassas, Va., Daniel and wife Susan Fink of San Antonio, Texas and Paul and wife Rachel Fink of Bunn Level, N.C.; one sister Barbara and husband and Jerry Shepherd of Pierce; twenty grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son-in-law Robert "Scott" Lambert.

Ret. Msgt. Fink served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-73. He was also a retired coal miner. Don was a member of the Barbour Country Club. He loved golfing, reading, music and was an avid sports fan, although his family activity was just to spend time with his family. Don was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be greatly missed by all. Mr. Fink was Catholic by faith and a member of the Immaculate Conception Parrish in Clarksburg. His request for cremation was honored. Friends were received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi on Tuesday, May 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Father Timothy Grassi officiating. Ethel Giordano

Ethel Grace Giordano, 95, of Eglon passed away May 14 at Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas.

Grace was born Nov. 6, 1913 in Horseshoe Run, a daughter of the late Somers and Iva Mae Wotring Slaubaugh.

Survivors include one daughter Ruby Dumire Feather of Eglon; one sister Pearl Valentine of Cumberland, Md.; three grandsons Denny Feather (and Betty Jo), Gary Feather (and Robin), Milton Feather (and Ronda); one granddaughter Connie Feather; seven great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; one step-great-grandson; one step-great-granddaughter; two great-great-grandsons; two great-great-granddaughters; two step great-greatgranddaughters and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three husbands Albert Dumire, Oscar Smith and Salvatore Giordano; four sisters Blanche and Thelma Slaubaugh, Beulah Hardesty and Lele Hawse; one brother Guy W. Slaubaugh; and a son-in-law Norman Feather.

Grace worked for many years as a waitress in Baltimore, Md. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren and she enjoyed her flower garden and spending time with family.

Friends were received on Friday, May 15 at Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis from 2 until 8 p.m. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 16 at 11 a.m. at Maple Spring Church of the Brethren, Eglon with the Rev. J. Rogers Fike and Rev. Gary Meeks officiating. Interment followed in the Maple Spring Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cortland Acres, Daybreak Unit, HC 60 Box 98, Thomas, WV 26292. Hinkle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Howard Judy

Howard Ray Judy, 74, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Monday afternoon, May 11, at Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown . He had been in declining health for twenty-one years.

He was born Sunday, January 20, 1935 at Dry Fork, Shaffers Mountain a son of the late Isom P. Judy and Gertrude Bodkins. He was twice married. First to the former Josephine Kisamore, who preceded him in death Jan. 16, 1997 and second on July 29, 1989 at Parsons, he was married to the former Shirley Grace Hardy Moody, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons Steven Ray Judy and wife Patty of Mannington and Donald Wayne Judy and wife Kathy of Parsons; two stepsons Kenneth L. Moody Jr. and wife Annie of Martinsville, Va. and Jeffrey ‘Clay’ Moody and wife Penny of Parsons; one daughter Karen Marie Harper of Montrose; one brother John William ‘Bill’ Judy and wife Shirley A. of Parsons; one half-sister Mary Josephine Lambert of Elkins; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five stepgreat- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are four brothers Dickson W. Judy, Denver Judy, Denzil Lee Judy and Dennis ‘Jack’ Judy; one half-brother William ‘Willie’ Judy; one sister Christina Dessie Judy Kidwell.

He attended the one room school at Gladwin and Parsons Graded School. He was a Veteran of the United States Airforce. He was an employee of the former Woolen Mill in Parsons; he was supervisor for Gordon Carton and National Cup Company, both at Baltimore. He was owner and operator of Delaware Home Improvement in Fredrick, Del. He was owner of the former Ye Olde City Mobile Home Park in Parsons. He was a noted heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Parsons Church of God.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home on Friday,

May 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor Saturday, May 16 at 11:30 a.m. The Rev. Eli Hostetler and Rev. Robert Leard officiated and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, where the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion and the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker Co. Veterans Association conducted full military rites. Charles Kepner

Charles DuWane Kepner, 84, of Hambleton, died May 14.

He was born Jan. 9, 1925 in Elkins, a son of the late Eugene L. and Elsie V. Swearinger Kepner.

He is survived by his wife Vickie A. Kepner; three sons John A. Kepner and Frank D. Kepner both of Canton, Ohio and Lani Joe Kepner of Anaheim, Calif.; and several grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Hazel Wade Kepner; five brothers and two sisters. 

Charles was a US Navy veteran of WWII. He was employed as a machinist for Ford Motor Co. before his retirement and he was a Protestant by faith.

At the request of the deceased, he was cremated. Hinkle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Kenneth Stukey

Kenneth Carroll Stukey, 69, of Thomas and formerly of Parkersburg, passed away May 14 at Davis Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 20, 1939 in Parkersburg, a son of the late Everett Leroy Stukey and Gladys Walters Stukey.

He is survived by his wife Patricia A. Helmick Stukey; two sons Mitchell Kent Stukey of Evansville, Ind. and David Kenneth Stukey of Charlotte, N.C.; one daughter Anne Christine Stukey of Atlanta, Ga.; three stepdaughters Donna Maxwell of Kirkland, Wash., Sandy Roberts of Hendricks and Kimberly Hanlin of Benbush; one brother Ronald Stukey of Johnson City, Tenn.; two sisters Judy Smith of Vienna and Linda Wertz of Daytona Beach, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Ken was a retired building contractor and was Baptist by faith.

At the request of the deceased his remains were cremated. Hinkle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
