Irene Duckworth
Irene E. Duckworth, 80, went home to be with the Lord on Monday May 21, in Charlotte, N.C. Formerly of Newark, Del., she has lived in Charlotte for the past five years battling dementia.
Irene worked at the Shue School for 20 years, and was an active member of Ogletown Baptist Church where she enjoyed working in the nursery. She loved to cook for her family, and they knew that her kitchen was always open.
Irene was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Her family and friends knew her as a loving and caring individual.
Mrs. Duckworth was preceded in death by her loving husband Rufus C. Duckworth; son Roger Knotts; brothers Junior, Perry and David Knotts; and her sister Dola Mae Knotts.
Survivors include her children Jim Duckworth and his wife Patti of Charlotte, N.C., Brian Duckworth and his wife Sheree Prickett of Newark, Del.; her grandchildren Amanda and Sara Duckworth of Charlotte, N.C., Lauren, Megan and Andrew Duckworth of Newark, Del., Patrick Knotts and his wife Liz of Jacksonville, Fla.; a step=grandson Jason Prickett of Newark, Del.; brothers Kenneth Knotts and his wife Jane, Harry Knotts and his wife Chris and Alva Knotts and his wife Elda; her sister Sylvia Rosenau and her husband Bill; her daughter-in-law Betty Knotts and her sisters-in-law Cornell Knotts and Pauline Knotts.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday June 7, at Ogletown Baptist Church 316 Red Mill Road Rte. 273 Newark, Del. Friends may call at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made in Mrs. Duckworth's memory to Hospice Palliative Care Charlotte Region (H.P.C.C.R.) Attn. Development Dept. 1420 East Seventh ST. Charlotte, N.C. 28204.
Donald Shure
Donald "Zeke" Shure, 70, formerly of Davis, died May 24 in Springfield, Vt. at the Springifield Health & Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy illness.
He was born April 1, 1937 in Davis, a son of the late Lawrence and Mary Komoski Shure. In August of 1975, he married Katherine J. Tole, who preceded him in death in may 2005.
Survivors include a son Donald Shure Jr. of Ossippe, N.H.; two daughters Donna Fitzgerald of Daytona Beach, Fla. and Dana Lynn Shure of Wolfboro, N.H.; a step-son Michael Garofano of WEstminster, Ma.; one brother William Shure of Salida, Co.; five grandsons; and a niece.
Zeke graduated from Davis High School in 1955, where he was an avid high school athlete. He later served as a football and basketball sports official in Davis and was a member and past president of the Davis Lions Club. He was employed by the local telephone company in West Virginia and later worked for Contel Telephone in Springfield, Vt. He retired after 26 years of service.
He was a member of both the Springfield Elks Lodge #1560 and the Moose Lodge #679. Zeke loved Davis and had many friends here whom he kept in touch with. He loved the WV Mountaineers and never missed a game if it was televised in Vt.
A funeral service was held May 26 at 1 p.m. at the Davis Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Springfield, Vt. with the Rev. Shawn Therrian, Pastor of St. Mary's Church in Claremont, N.H. officiating. Interment followed in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
