Terry Benson

Terry Lee Benson, 60, of Davis passed away June 18, 2007 at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland, Md.  Death was sudden and unexpected. .

He was born Aug. 3, 1946, at Fairmont, Mn., a son of the late Jack Leigh and Bette Gale Benson.  

He is survived by his wife, Rosalinde Koppe Benson of Davis; a son Robert (and Allison) Benson of Baltimore, Md.; a daughter, Michaela (and David) Holcomb; five brothers Ricky (and Susan) Benson of Galveston, Texas, Robert Gale Benson of Kansas City, Mo., Jack (and Deidre) Benson of Kansas City, Mo., Christopher (and Ronda) Benson of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters Ramona Jo Fizzuoglio of San Antonio, Texas and Shelly Anne and Robert Farrell of Grantsville; and five grandchildren Jesse Lee, Faith Marie Benson and Madison, Morgan, Aly and David Holcomb.  

Mr. Benson was retired from the U.S. Army. He was owner/operator of the Blackwater Brewing Co.

Friends and family were received at Hinkle Funeral Home on Sunday.  The Rev. Rick Benson and the Rev. Rob Benson officiated. Interment will follow on June 29 at Arlington National Cemetery at 2 p.m.  Please send memorial contributions in Terry's name to Autism Research Institute, 4182 Adams Avenue, San Diego, Ca.  92116.   Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  

Peg Collette

Margaret “Peg” Mae Collette, 54, a resident, Philippi, and a former resident of Hambleton, passed away Friday, June 22 at her residence.

She was born Oct. 20, 1952, at Parsons, a daughter of Dorothy Pennington Winkler of Philippi and the late Luther Winkler of Philippi.  She was united in marriage Oct. 21, 1972, to Moody Eldridge Collette, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, William Keith Collette of Parsons and Jacob Lee and wife Regina of Philippi; two sisters, Linda and husband, the Pat Cassidy of St. George and Ruth and husband, Steve Marks of Liberty, S.C.; two grandchildren, Hannah Nicole and Preston James Collette of Philippi; three nephews Steven Craig and wife Tammy Marks of Mt. Sterling, Ky., Charles and wife Susan Marks of Parsons and Charles and wife Madeline Arnold of Hendricks.

Peg worked as CFO at Appalachian Mental Health in Elkins. She also worked at Sharpe Hospital as assistant administrator and CFO and also at St. George Medical Clinic as CEO. Peg was a member of Overfield Community Church, was past member of River City Garden Club, was past member of Tucker Community Endowment Foundation Board of Directors and was a past member of the Governor’s Community Action Board. 

Peg received an award as one of the outstanding young woman of America in 1987. Peg received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Fairmont State College and master’s in business administration from Wesleyan College.

Friends were received at Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi on Monday, June 25 from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday, June 26 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., the service hour with the Rev. Pat Cassidy officiating. Interment followed in Parsons City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care Corp., P.O. Box 760, Arthurdale, W.Va. 26520. Wright Funeral Home Services was in charge of the arrangements.

Danielle M. Raines

Danielle Marie Raines, 20, of Harman died June 17, 2007.

She was born May 25, 1987, at Elkins, a daughter of Jerry Lynn and Jennie Lou Bennett Raines, who survive in Harman.  Also surviving are paternal and maternal grandparents; one aunt; three uncles; several cousins and her dog.

Friends were received on.Wednesday, June 20 at the Dry Fork Assembly of God Church. Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 21, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ric Lewellen officiating. Interment followed in the Raines Family Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.  

John Geroski

John Harold Geroski, 82, of Oakland, Md., died Sunday, June 24, at Garrett Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 4, 1925, in Kempton, Md., a son of the late Jovo Durasevic (Geroski) and Ida B. Wilson. 

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty (Lewis) Geroski, Oakland. Md. He was the loving father of one son, John H. Geroski Jr., Hedgesville; three daughters, Sharon Porter, Mtn. Lake Park, Md., Harriett Cannon of Crellin, Md., and Cynthia Sundstrom, Fayetteville; one brother, Carl Jurie, Pueblo, Co.; 7 grandchildren, Erik Geroski of Oakland Md., Beth Ann Hall, Winchester, Va.,  Caroline Evans of Oakland Md., Stacy Geroski, of Oakland Md., Joshua Geroski, of Oakland, Md, Jessica Geroski, Fredericksburg, Va., and Emily Sundstrom, Fayetteville; five great-grandchildren, Vivian Geroski, Kristen Geroski, Jacob Cannon, Jonathon Evans, and Mara Evans, all of Oakland, Md. 

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis Geroski and Ray Geroski; one sister, Betty Pendleton; one son, Michael Allen Geroski; and one grandson, Mark Ashley Cannon.

Mr. Geroski retired from Buffalo Coal (Carl Del Signore) in 1983. He was the former owner - builder of the Genus Center on Garrett Hwy., Oakland. He was a 50 year member of the Croatian Fraternal Union of America Lodge #47 in Pittsburgh, Pa., charter member of the Oakland Elks, and member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Davis.

The family received friends at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Oakland, Md. on Tuesday, June 26.  Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 27  at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. David Moon officiating.  Interment will follow in Garrett Memorial Gardens, Oakland, Md.

Florence Smith 

Florence Marine (Kight) Smith, 87, of Baltimore, Md. and formerly of Moorefield, went to be with her Lord, Saturday, June 16, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Baltimore. 

She was born June 20, 1919 in pierce, the daughter of the late Homer and Lottie (Fike) Kight. 

Survivors include a son Clifford R. Smith of Baltimore, Md.; two daughters Dottie Hornyak of Moorefield and Juanita Roehl of Baltimore, Md.; a brother Orville A. Kight of Eglon; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Clifford Smith on August 9, 1993; one brother, three sisters, three brother-in-laws, one sister-in-law and three nephews, including twin boys. 

She attended Thomas High School and was a nurses aide at John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md. until she retired in 1983. 

Graveside services were conducted by her great grandson, Jesse Hornyak in Eglon Cemetery, Eglon.  In lieu of Flowers, memorials to the Believer's Victory Church, North Main Street, Moorefield, W.V. 26836.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Lassahn Funeral Home in Baltimore, Md.  

Kenneth Stemple

Kenneth Lawrence Stemple, 81, of Aurora, passed away June 18 at his residence. 

He was born Feb. 27, 1926 in Aurora, a son of the late Walter George and Dora Bland Stemple.  He is survived by his wife Blanche Fike Stemple; a son, his companion and her children; two daughters and their husbands; a brother; and two grandchildren.  

Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 19.  Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 20 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Sarah Snyder officiating.  Interment followed in the Aurora Cemetery.  Hinkle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
