Edith M. Allman

Edith Mae Allman, 87, of Davis passed away July 1, 2007 in Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas.

She was born Feb. 22, 1920 in Henry, a daughter of the late William Benny and Susie Martin Mullenax.  She was first married in 1939 to Edward Lee Smith, who was killed in the service in 1943. In 1946, she married Arthur Allman, who preceded her death in 1995.

Survivors include a sister, Alice “Peggy” Morgan of Reading, Pa. and a niece, Alice Roush of Davis.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Alfred, Lester, Luther, Walter, Gene and Wayne Mullenax; and two sisters, Ethel Mullenax and Goldie Evans.

Edith was first employed in Baltimore, Md., where she worked for the Port of Embark with the 3rd Service Command as a dispatcher and receptionist. She then worked and retired from the Davis Center after 19 years. 

She was a member of Davis United Methodist Church, Blackwater Rebekah Lodge #274, charter member of FOE #936 Ladies Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary of Elkins.

Friends will be received at Hinkle Funeral Home at Davis Thursday, July 5  from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, July 6 at 11 a.m. at Davis United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Buena Cemetery at Canaan Valley. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Estel E. Barr 

Estel E. Barrn, 86, of Clarksburg, formerly of Elk Garden, went to be with the Lord Thursday, June 21, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas.  He had been in declining health for several weeks and died in his sleep.  

He was born Aug. 20, 1920, in St. George, a son of the late John and Flossie Warner Barr.  

Surviving is a brother Chester Barr of Williamsburg, VA.; a sister, Mary Barr White of Clarksburg; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Irene Casto Barr; a son Richard "Ricky" Barr of Elk Garden; and three brothers Virgil Barr of Burlingame, Kan., Kenneth Barr of Golden, Colo., and John Barr of Canton, Ohio.  

Mr. Barr retired from D&L Coal Co., where he worked as a diesel mechanic. He was a veteran, serving as a mechanic in the U.S. Army during World War II.  

Interment was at Potomac Memorial Gardens in Keyser.  

Audra Eakin

Audra Eakin, 91, of Weston passed away on June 29, 2007 at her home following an extended illness.  

She was born in Tucker County on Sept. 10, 1915; daughter of the late Marvin Clay Painter and Isa (Auvil) Painter.  On Aug. 2, 1946, she married Harry W. Eakin, who preceded her in death on May 3, 1966. 

Audra is the mother of Roxanna Linville of Hurricane, Maxwell Eakin of Delray, Fla., and Marvin Eakin and wife Donna of New Martinsville.  She is the grandmother of four grandchildren.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. 

Mrs. Eakin was the sister of Jean Stickley of Winchester, Va. and Ruby Hebb of Elkins.  A sister, Mary Shahan, preceded her in death.  

Mrs. Eakin retired from the Weston State Hospital.  She was a homemaker and attended the Weston Church of God.  

At Mrs. Eakins' request; a private viewing and service will be held t the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston and a private committal will follow in the Broad Run Cemetery of Jane Lew.  Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home of Weston is in charge of the arrangements for Audra Eakin.  

Betty J. Kimble

Betty J. Kimble, 66, of Kearneysville, died Monday, June 25 at Shenandoah Health Village Center in Charles Town with her family present. 

She was born March 15, 1941, in Dry Fork and was the daughter of the late Edgar E. and Nela Huffman Nelson.  On Oct. 5, 1959, she married Stearl I. Kimble, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Kathy S. Lane (and Allen) of Bunker Hill, and Chastidy Bender (and Mark) of Kearneysville; a son, Steven I. Kimble (and Lisa) of Middletown, Md.; three sisters, Mary Smith of East Lake, Ohio, Doris Evans of North Carolina and Joanne Huffman of Canaan Valley; six brothers, Roscoe Nelson and Joe Nelson, Donald Nelson, Burlie (Jake) Nelson, Roy Nelson and James Nelson, all of Dry Fork; two grandchildren, Christopher Lane and Jheri LeAnn Liskey.

She was employed by the Jefferson County Board of Education  as a cook and was a member of the Jefferson County Personnel Association. 

She was a member of the Charles Town Order of the Eastern Star and the Charles Town Baptist Church.

Friends were received at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin on Wednesday, June 27.  Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 28 with the Rev. Stanley Kile officiating.  Burial was at the Lahmansville Cemetery in Lahmansville.  Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.  

Friends called at the funeral home from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
