Randy Fluharty

Randy Fluharty, 54, of Porter Falls, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 10. He was born July 16, 1954 in Jacksonburg, the son of the late Albert and Rebecca (Powell) Fluharty.

Surviving is his wife Frances Pennington Fluharty, formerly of Parsons; three sisters-in-law Nancy Fluharty of New Martinsville, Rita Witkowski of Annandale, Va. and Janice Poling of St. George; one brother-in-law of Fredericksburg, Va.; mother- in-law Bessie Pennington of Parsons; and four nephews Ray, Daniel, Jason and David Fluharty.

A memorial service was held Monday, July 13 at Palmer Funeral Home in Pine Grove. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Journey Hospice, 314 South Wells St., Sistersville, WV 26175.

Prentice Liller

Prentice D. Wayne Liller, 76 of Davis died July 20 at his residence.

He was born Dec. 11, 1932 in Thomas, a son of the late Clarence and Edith Sowers Liller.

He was preceded in death by his wife Vivetta Reed Liller on Oct. 26, 1973; one son Dale W. Liller on Feb. 14, 1988; and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include four sons Stanley Kisamore of Keyser, Kenneth Kisamore of Indianapolis, Ind., Rex Liller and Rodney Liller, both of Davis; four daughters Lillie Ruth Adkins, Loretta Phillips and Latrella Small, all of Davis and Lorena Liller of Thomas; three brothers Harold Liller of Missouri, Jerry Liller of Ohio and Ronnie Liller; two sisters Norma Hinkle of Deer Park, Md. and Doris Volker of Ohio; 30 grandchildren and 22 greatgrandchildren.

Mr. Liller was a US Army Korean Conflict Veteran. He was a member of the VFW, UMWA and Mars Network.

Friends will be received at Hinkle Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 22 from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 23 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Allen Schwarz officiating. Interment will follow in the Davis Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

W. Elliott Ours

W. Elliott Ours, 74 of Davis, passed away on Tuesday, July 14 at his daughter’s residence in Shenandoah Junction.

He was born Dec. 2, 1934 in Clarksburg, a son of the late Willis E. and Marguerite Fleming Ours.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years Margot M. Ours; one daughter Michelle (Pat) King of Shenandoah Junction; one son Tom (Cindy) Ours of Shepherdstown; one half-brother Robert A. Ours of Baton Rouge, La.; two grandchildren Andrew King and Anna Kate Ours; and sister-in-law and brotherin-law Renate and George Wilson of La Vergne, Tenn. Mr. Ours graduated from Thomas High School in 1952 and enlisted in the Army in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1956. He married Margot Benthien of Luebeck, Germany on April 14, 1957 at St. Marks Lutheran Church in Clarksburg. He graduated from WVU in 1961 with a B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering and was employed by the Federal Communications Commission as a fi eld engineer in 1961 at the Detroit, Mich. field office. In 1968, the family moved to the Washington, D.C. area and he retired in 1989 as Chief of the Enforcement Division.

Mr. Ours was very interested in the Canaan Valley/ Tucker County history and was co-author of Behold! The Land of Canaan. He was a member and former President of the Friends of the 500th Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Davis and a former member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Uvilla.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 24 at 2 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, Thomas with Pastor Mark Joseph offi ciating. Following the services a luncheon will be held at the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge building. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Friends of the 500th, TCHHEP, P.O. Box 422, Davis, WV 26260 or to Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25403. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Eugene Sponaugle

Eugene Hayes ‘Jim’ Sponaugle, 73, of Hendricksand more recently of Berkley Springs, went home to be with the Lord early Friday July 10, in Winchester Medical Center Winchester, Va.

He was born Thursday, Jan. 16, 1936 at Hambleton, a son of the late Bryan Sponaugle and Delva Carr.  On Nov. 8, 1958 he was married to the former Joann Long at Oakland, Md., daughter

of the late Joseph and Edith Long.

Surviving are three daughters Vera Nestor and husband Michael and Delva Tennant, all of Parsons and Twyla Beth Ullom and husband Steve of Berkley Springs; one step-son Harry J. Fansler of Hendricks; a granddaughter

Rachel Summerfield and husband Chad of Fla., who he raised; two brothers Harold Sponaugle and wife Barb of Ohio and Lewis Sponaugle and wife Revie of Inwood; two sisters Wilda Sponaugle of Ohio and Lullabell Hardy and husband Bud of Hambleton; one half-sister Naomi Lambert and husband Harry of Mabie; one half-brother Butch Sponaugle and wife Dottie of St. George; two step-brothers Allen ‘Hambone' Mason of Parsons and Burl Mason of Hambleton; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death are one brother Cleon Sponaugle; one sister Lucy Sponaugle; one step-sister Martha Whetzel and step-mother Armitte Sponaugle, who was a loving mother to him and all the children.

He was a graduate of Parsons High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1965. He was a Brother Coal Miner. He attended Love Assembly of God Church in Berkley Springs with Rev. Dave Kidwell and was Pentecostal by faith.

Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, July 25 at noon at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons.

Daughter Vera Nestor will say a few words. He will be missed by his wife and family. He was a very loving father and husband, but we know he is in a far better place with our loving Lord Jesus Christ and all of the loved ones who went before him. Freddie Triplett

Freddie Grace Triplett, 82, a former resident of Philippi passed away Sunday, July 19 in Buckhannon at the home of her daughter, where she had resided for the last 10 months.

She was born March 13, 1927 in Hendricks, the oldest daughter of the late Odis and Bessie (Long) Summerfield of Nestorville. She was twice married, first to Thomas Kimbrew and second to Ivan  Triplett, both who preceded her in death.

Surviving are two daughters Linda Epp of Buckhannon and Virginia Amick of Beaver; six sons Larry Summerfield of Lutz, Fla., Clifton Summerfield of Orleans, Mich., Thomas Kimbrew of Moatsville, Archer Kimbrew of Grand Junction, Colo., Douglas Kimbrew of Brandon, Fla. and Bryan Kimbrew of Marlinton; four sisters Flora Jones of Slippery Rock, Pa., Rachel Gragg of Nestorville, Ruby Kisamore of Montrose and Barbara Steele of Norton; five brothers Carl Summerfield of Beverly, Doyle Summerfield of Nestorville, Walter Summerfield of Philippi, Lonnie Summerfi eld of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Roger Summerfield of Belington; 26 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Triplett was preceded in death by one daughter Bessie Scott; three sons Charles, Ricky and Michael Kimbrew; one sister Alberta Frederick; and four brothers Jack, Odis, Golden and Charles Summerfield.

Mrs. Triplett was a Methodist by faith. During her life she worked as a homemaker, Health-Aide and baker in several restaurants in the Philippi area. She was best known for her homemade bread, pies and pastries. She had a faithful and loyal miniature poodle named Pooh.

Special thanks from the family to Home Health Care-Givers Diane Miner and Vonda Simons. Also the family would like to thank Hospice for the care they provided.

Friends were received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi on Tuesday, July 21 and on Wednesday, July 22 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Thursday, July 23 from 8 to 11 a.m., the service hour with Rev. Jim Marshall and Speaker Donna Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens in Elkins.
