Olive Heitz
Olive Carrico Heitz, 84, formerly of Canaan Valley, passed away July 26 at Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, Va.
She was born Aug. 21, 1924 in Coketon, a daughter of the late Chambers Lee and Laura Elizabeth Lipscomb Carrico.
She was preceded in death by her husband William D. Heitz Sr.; three sisters; and one brother that was killed in action in WWII.
Survivors include one son William D. Heitz Jr.; one daughter Elizabeth Carrico Heitz; and two grandchildren Elizabeth Rebecca Turley and Rachel Eden Turley, all of Fairfax, Va.
Mrs. Heitz retired from the Federal Government with over 44 years as a Communications Specialist with the Communications Electronics Dept. of the US Army. She received numerous awards during Federal service including the Meritorious Civilian Service Award. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association, Independent Telephone Pioneers, NARFE, AL Manarah Chapter, Ladies Oriental Shrine and National Honor Society.
Friends will be received on Thursday, July 30 from 1 to 2 p.m. the funeral hour at Buena United Methodist Church in Canaan Valley with Rev. Jim Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the Buena Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the Arrangements.
David Kackley
David Randall Kackley, 58, formerly of Davis passed away July 26 at his home in Chester, Md.
He was born April 2, 1951 in Elkins, a son of the late Holbert Kenneth and Mabel Irene Helmick Kackley.
Survivors include his ex-wife Elaine Kackley; three sons Jerry (and Stacie) Kackley of Lusby, Md., Jody (and Tina) Kackley of Davis and Tim Kackley of Chester, Md.; one daughter Christina Kackley of Denton, Md.; one brother Holbert Kenneth Kackley of Tenn.; two sisters Nancy Poling of Wheeling and Olive Hames of Berlin, Md.; and four grandchildren.
Dave was employed as a plumber by W.L. Gary. He was a member of Davis Thomas Fairfax Lodge #174, FOE #936 and the Plumbers Union Local #5. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Friends will be received at Hinkle Funeral Home on Thursday, July 30 from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 31 at 11 a.m. at Hinkle Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Martin officiating. At the request of the deceased, his remains will be cremated. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Ralph Stanley
Ralph Harding Stanley, 88 of Thomas, passed away at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown on July 22.
He was born March 4, 1921 in Meadows Odan, Lloyd County, Va., a son of the late Grover and Alva Dickerson Stanley.
He is survived by two sons Lawrence Stanley of Cleveland, Ohio and Chester Stanley of Trenton, Texas; one brother “Lenny” Howard Stanley of Oak Hill; two grandchildren Shelia Pecek and Lawrence A. Stanley; four great-grandchildren Emily, Joshua, William and Alex.
He was preceded in death by his wife Alma Mae Brewer in 1981; and one sister Norene Ord.
Mr. Stanley was a coal miner, a veteran of the Merchant Marines, and a member of the Mt. Top Hunting club. He enjoyed reading, hunting and fishing.
Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral Home on Friday, July 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services were held at Hinkle Funeral Chapel on Saturday, July 25 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jim Martin officiating. Interment followed in Rose Hill Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Edith Vandevander
Edith Rosetta Thompson Vandevander, 81 years, a resident of the Pheasant Run Community, Kerens, went home to be with her Lord and her loving husband Paul, on Wednesday evening, July 22, at the Davis Memorial Hospital, with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren by her bedside.
She was born Wednesday, Oct. 5, 1927 at Whitmer, a daughter of the late Isaac Thompson and Floda Nelson Thompson. On Sept. 29, 1945 at Harman, she was married to Paul Junior Vandevander, who preceded her in death Aug. 22, 2006.
Surviving are six children Nancy Marie Kalar and husband Joe, Kenneth Edward Vandevander and wife Wanda, all of Kerens, Pauletta Ramsey and husband Brad of Parsons, Benny Jay Vandevander and wife Maureen, Norma Gay Channell and husband Gary, Rebecca Sue Arbogast and husband Cletus Ray, all of Kerens; thirteen grandchildren Jody and Billy Kalar, Kevin, Tim and Jason Vandevander, Heather, Dan and Erin Ramsey, Debbie Lawrence, Mike Vandevander, Bryan Channell, Amy Barrett and Adam Arbogast; and eleven great-grandchildren Ashley, Breanna, Brittany, Corey, Joshua, Todd, Kimberly, Kyleigh, Madison, Jakob and Isaac.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by three sisters Marie Cole, Hallie Harper, Sylvia Thompson; six brothers Roscoe, Golden, Clinton, Clyde, Dorsey and Calvin Thompson; and one great-grandson Noah Michael Vandevender.
She attended the schools of Randolph County. She was a member of Irons Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Friday, July 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Saturday, July 25 at 11 a.m. The Rev. J. Michael Lantz officiated and interment followed at the Mt. State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements for Edith Rosetta Thompson Vandevander.
