Edna E. Golightly

Edna Edna Golightly, 84, of Davis, passed away July 29, at the Odd Fellows Nursing Home in Elkins.

She was born Aug. 9, 1922, at Thomas, a daughter of the late Edgar Lee and Marguerite Wealthia Lansberry Tallman.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard S. Golightly in 1980.

Survivors include one son, Gary Lee Golightly Sr. and wife Charolette, of Petersburg, Va.; one granddaughter, Mary and husband Gene Ballance, of Prince George, Va.; and one grandson, Gary Golightly Jr. of Hopewell, Va.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ray Shahan, Clarence Shahan and Buryl Tallman; and two sisters, Louise Shahan and Evelyn Lindsey.

Mrs. Golightly was owner/manager of Golightly Motel in Davis for many years. She was a member of Blackwater Rebekah Lodge 24 and was Protestant by faith.

Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 31 from 1 tol 2 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Stanley Waybright officiated and interment followed in Davis Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. 

Earl Lipscomb Jr.

Earl Lipscomb Jr., 55, a resident of the Blackman Flats Community, Hambleton, departed this life Tuesday evening, July 24 at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was sudden and unexpected.

He was born Thursday, Dec. 6, 1951, at Parsons, a son of the late Earl Lipscomb Sr. and Virginia Emma Pennington Lipscomb.  He had never married.

Survivors include one brother, Robert Lipscomb; one half brother, Virgil Lipscomb; one sister, Donna Simmons; five half sisters, Madeline Phillips, Juanita Chewning, Patricia Hawkins, Jean Burton and Hannah Henthorne; and several nieces and nephews.

He attended the schools of Tucker County and Randolph County. He was a former employee of Randolph County Sheltered Workshop. He loved to read and spend time with family and friends.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons July 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. Final rites were conducted on Saturday, July 28, 2007, at 11 a.m. Pastor Pat Cassidy officiated and interment followed at the Pennington Cemetery at Blackman Flats.  The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Earl Lipscomb Jr. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com. 

Rylan Vanscoy

Rylan Axil Vanscoy went home to be with the Lord, Sunday morning, July 29, 2007, at his home. God blessed our lives by loaning us our precious baby boy.

He was born Tuesday, June 26 at Morgantown. He is greatly loved and missed by his parents, Courtney Brooke Streets and Travis Tyler Vanscoy.

Also surviving are his maternal grandparents, Allen and Mary Beth Streets; paternal grandparents, Ritchie and Sandra Vanscoy; his aunt, Dakota Streets, and uncle, Trevor Vanscoy; great-grandparents, Sharolett Streets, Kent and Mary Lee, Cletis and Pam Vanscoy, Phyllis Henline, and Linda Hedrick; and great-great-grandparent, Reatis Mullenax.

Preceding him in death are his great-grandfathers, Sonny Streets and Chester Hedrick; and great-great-grandparents, Lawrence Mullenax, Lester and Zelda Bender, Fred and Lenora Combs, Anna Vanscoy, Fred and Edith Carr and Ezra and Nelle Lee.

A private graveside service was held on Monday, July 30 at the Sunrise Cemetery at Hambleton, with Pastor John Means and Pastor Pat Cassidy officiating.  The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Rylan Axil Vanscoy.
