Alvina St. Arnold

Alvina Popish St. Arnold, 76 of Grand Rapids, Mich. died July 12 in St. Marys Hospital.

Alvina was born Oct. 17, 1933 in Davis, a daughter of the late Charles and Helen Lahman Popish.

She was preceded in death by her husband Victor St. Arnold; a daughter Dawn; and two sons William and Harry.

Surviving are two sons Steven and Robert; and seven grandchildren, all of Mich. Surviving siblings are two brothers Patrick Popish of College Park, Md. and David Popish of Leesburg, Va.; and six sisters Mae Popish, Jean Waybright and Ruby Dix, all of Davis, Mary Behler of Kent, Mich, Cecilia Norwood of Sharpsburg, Md. and Dora Thomas of LaPlata, Md. Private services were held. Arrangements were handled by Arsutowicz Bros. W. Mortuary in Grand Rapids, Mich.

James Dove

James Bernard “Jim” Dove, 60, a resident of the Leadmine Community, St. George, departed this life Monday, July 27, at his home.

He was born Sunday, Sept. 5, 1948 at Leadmine, a son of the late T.A. “Ted” Dove and Orpha Mae Evans Dove, who survives in Thomas.

Also surviving are two sisters Norma Jean Lansberry of St. George and Beverly June Snyder and husband John of Grafton; five nieces and nephews James Lansberry and wife Jeanie of Evans, Pamela Moreland and husband Jeff of Petersburg, Jenese Hebb and husband Jeff of Hendricks, Justin Jones and wife Chatel of Parsons and Shasta Jones of Morgantown; and great-nieces Megan Lansberry of Petersburg and Shilah Jones of Parsons.

Preceding him in death are two half-brothers Paul Dove and Harold Dove.

He attended the school at Shaffertown and Parsons High School. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam Conflict. He was stationed in Germany. He was a construction worker, a former employee of Blackwater Falls State Park and more recently a Security Guard at Mt. Storm.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home at Parsons on Wednesday, July 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Thursday, July 30 at 11 a.m. Pastor Neil Precht officiated and interment followed at the National Cemetery at Grafton, where full military rites were accorded. Barbara Huffman

Barbara Ann Hinkle-Huffman, 57, passed away Saturday, Aug. 1 at Garrett County Memorial Hospital in Oakland, Md.

Barbara was born Sept. 6, 1951 in Harman.

She is survived by her husband Harvey Huffman; mother Anna May Hinkle of Hambden Twp., Ohio; father-in-law Rob Huffman of Dryfork; children David M. Hinkle, M.D. (Lekha Hota, M.D.) of Watertown, Ma., Allan Huffman (Amy) of Maysville, Patricia Thompson (Steve) of Dryfork; grandchildren Nathin, Ilesa, Stacie, Tess, Skyler, Micah and Karlie Beth; two sisters remain Elaine and Charlotte (“Charlie” & Donnie) all of Hambden Twp., Ohio; brother-in-law Bob Huffman (Ruby); and sister-in-law Kathy Marra (John).

Barbara’s father Russell Layne Hinkle; and grandparents Russell B. Hinkle, Nuda (Cooper) Hinkle, Carney Bill Harper and Sylva Harper (Teter) are deceased.

Mrs. Huffman retired from Grant County Schools in 2008, having taught 33 years in Ohio and in Randolph, Tucker and Grant counties. She was a graduate of Willoughby South High (Ohio), Ohio State University and West Virginia University with a master’s degree in Education.

She was active in her church, played the piano at both church and school, and was a founding member of the Harman Library. She was a loving, caring and generous person who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Barbara was a believer in Jesus Christ and is now in heaven with her Lord.

Friends were received on Tuesday, Aug. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dryfork Assembly of God, Rt. 32, Dryfork. Funeral services will be held at the church on Wednesday, Aug. 5 at 10 a.m. with Reverends Brian Hipp and Rick Lewellen officiating, with burial to follow at the Flanagan Hill Cemetery on Rt. 72 in Red. Creek.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to either the Pioneer Library in Harman or to the Canaan Valley Volunteer Fire Department in Canaan Valley. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
