Rev. William Woods
The Rev. William Joe Woods, 70, a resident of St. George, departed this life Tuesday evening, Aug. 4, at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.
He was born Friday, Jan. 6, 1939 at Petersburg, a son of the late William H. Woods and Mary S. Smith Woods. On Jan. 15, 1961 at Maryland, he was married to the former Patricia Ann Miller, who survives. They had celebrated forty-eight years of marriage.
Also surviving are one son Daniel J. Woods and wife Jeanette of Washington, N.C.; one daughter Jennifer L. Tannehill and husband Glen of Gastonia, N.C.; four granddaughters Janelle Sanchez and husband Felipe, Sara, Laura and Hannah Woods; one grandson Seth Tannehill; one brother Thomas Woods and wife Shirley of LaVale, Md.; four sisters Alice W. Turner of Petersburg, Linda Woods and Ollie Catherine George of Richmond, Va. and Pearl Alt of McKnightstown, Pa.
Preceding him in death are one daughter Rebecca Sue Woods; a twin brother Bobby Lee Woods; three sisters Lola, Elizabeth and Betty; and three brothers Clyde, Paul and James.
He attended the Johnson Run School in Petersburg. He served as Pastor in the Church of God for twenty years, the Wesleyan Pentecostal Church for ten years and was currently serving as Pastor of the Pentecostal Outreach Ministry Church in Parsons.
He was a carpenter, painter, mechanic and auto body repairman, and loved to tinker on anything mechanical. He was an avid outdoorsman.
The family received friends at the Pentecostal Outreach Ministry Church in the Pulp Mill Bottom, Parsons on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the Church on Saturday, Aug. 8, at 11 a.m. Pastor Daniel J. Woods officiated and interment followed at the Maple Hill Cemetery at Petersburg, where graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements for The Rev.
