William Cavanaugh III
William Edward Cavanaugh III, 58, of Chantilly, Va. and formerly of Thomas, passed away peacefully Aug. 10 following a brief battle with cancer at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in Chantilly, Va.
He was born April 5, 1948, in McKeesport, Pa., a son of the late William Edward Cavanaugh Jr. and Evelyn Gazelle Topper Cavanaugh.
He is survived by his wife Sharyn Cosner Cavanaugh, and one son William Edward Cavanaugh IV of Chantilly, Va.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of American Legion Post 22.
Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis on Saturday, Aug. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday, Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the funeral home. Father Timothy Grassi will serve as celebrant. Interment followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Thomas. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Nick J. Monda ![]()
Nick Joseph Monda, 84, of Davis, passed away Sunday, June 18, at his residence.
He was born June 9, 1922, in Thomas, a son of the late Paul and Louise Mauro Monda, who came to Ellis Island in 1895 from Naples, Italy. They moved to Thomas in 1900, and spent the remainder of their lives there.
Nick is survived by one brother Paul Monda of Waynesville, Mo., with whom he communicated often. AS the youngest of 11 children, he had a quiet, shy disposition and was favorite of all.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters Nancy, Rose, Frances, Anna, Mary and Esther; and three brothers Joe, Ralph and Carmen.
Nick was a retired coal-strip mine employee. He served in the US Army and was a veteran of WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Post 22 of Thomas. , and a member of the Thomas Volunteer Fire Department.
He enjoyed baseball and was a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates ball team.
For the past 25 years, Nick served as mail carrier for the
Miners and Merchants Bank of Thomas and leaves behind many co-workers that
thought of him as family. He was liked by all and will be missed by
many.
Harold McDaniel
Harold Gene McDaniel, 70, a resident of the Rosendorf Community, Hendricks, departed this life Thursday evening, Aug. 3, at his home. He had been in his usual health.
He was born Sunday, Oct. 6, 1935, at Hendricks, a son of the late Shirley McDaniel and Georgie Loughry McDaniel. He had never married.
Surviving are three nieces, Helen Louise Gatto of Fairview, Beverly Kay Morgan of Mechanicsburg, Pa. and Sandra June Perks of Martinsburg; and one brother-in-law; James “June” Carr of Hendricks.
He is the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Louise Carr.
He attended the schools of Tucker County. He was employed at a bakery at Baltimore, Md., and at the Kingsford Charcoal Co. of Parsons, from 1972 until his retirement in 1998.
Mr. McDaniel’s remains were cremated and a memorial service will follow at a later date. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Harold Gene McDaniel. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com.
Charles Rhodes
Charles Alvin Rhodes, 72, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Friday morning, Aug. 11, 2006, at his home. He had been in declining health.
He was born Friday April 20, 1934 at Hambleton, a son of the late Cleveland H. Rhoades and Zernia Elizabeth Roy. On July 29, 1952 at Parsons, he was married to the former Lois Jean Phillips, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Charles Edward Rhodes and wife Susan of Morgantown; one daughter Sharon Louise Copelen and husband Troy, of Morgantown; one adopted daughter, Sandra Bohon and husband Marvin, of Saint George; three brothers, Thomas J. Rhodes and wife Mary, of Akron, Ohio, Jack D. Rhoades and wife Beverly of Bastrop, Texas and Roy I. “PeeWee” Rhoades of Hambleton; four grandsons, Charles Clark, Sean Rhodes, Bobby McGinley and Hunter Bohon; four granddaughters, Tara Clark, Ericka Rhodes-Edwards, Brandi Rhodes and Angela Bohon; and one great-grandson, Ethan Michael Rhodes.
Preceding him in death were six brothers, Howard, Delton, Clarence, Everett, Arthur and Harold Rhoades; and four sisters, Flora Roy, Flodia Graham, Helen Delaney and Lorane Rhoades.
He attended the schools of Tucker County. He was a former sawmill worker and construction worker. He worked for the former Haddix Plumbing & Heating, the Kingsford Charcoal Company and the former Parsons Footwear. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Parsons.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Sunday, Aug. 13 from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor Monday, Aug. 14, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Jeff Anderson officiated and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Charles Alvin Rhodes. Alberta White
Alberta Mae Floyd White, age 77, of Rogers Street, Grafton, passed away Monday, Aug. 14 at the Grafton City Hospital.
She was born on March 19, 1929, in Rowlesburg, a daughter of the late Willie Guy Floyd and Jessie Pearl Deets Floyd.
She is survived by her husband James L. "Buddy" White, whom she married on Jan. 9, 1948; three children Charles L. White and spouse Anna Lee, Michael White and spouse Jo, and Debra White and Friend David Wilbur all of Grafton; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters Dorothy Rose White of Parsons and Arlene Simmons of Morgantown; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters Wilma Shiflett and Florence Bolyard; and two brothers Charles Floyd and Deets Floyd.
Mrs. White worked for the C & P Telephone Company in Grafton and Duncan Telephone Company in Parsons, as an operator. She also worked at Four Corners Restaurant in Grafton for many years.
She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Modern Woodman of the World and was a member of the St. Johns United Methodist Church in Grafton.
The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton from 4 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16 and from noon on Thursday, Aug. 17 until the funeral hour. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Aug. 17 at 1 p.m,. with Rev. H. Edgar Suite officiating. Interment will follow in the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown.
Frederick Williams
Funeral services for Frederick "Everett" Williams, 71, of Daytona Beach, Fla., who died Wednesday, Aug. 2 at Halifax Medical Center were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5 in the Chapel of Lohman Funeral Home Daytona with the Rev. Robert Moorehead officiating.
The family received friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5 at the funeral home with the burial following in Daytona Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Williams was born on May 29, 1935, in Moore, to Paul and Ida Williams.
He was a commercial electrician for 48 years and a member of the I.B.E.W. Local 756. Frederick moved to the area in 1948 from Moore.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was the backbone of his family, a deer hunter, big game in Colorado. MR. Williams built his own home and enjoyed bow hunting.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years Thelma; three sons Everett L. and Marie Williams of Olden, Tenn., Paul Glen and Kim Williams of Athens, Tenn. and Ernest B. and Cheryl Williams of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister Ruth Williams Jones of Franklin, N.C.; Nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, P.O. Box 549, Daytona Beach, Fla. 32115, Arrangements were under the direction of Lohman Funeral Home, Daytona.
