Carolyn Myers
Carolyn Sue Shannon Myers, 69, a resident of Licking Creek Road, St. George, departed this life early Friday morning, Aug. 14, at her home following a prolonged illness.
She was born Wednesday, Feb. 28, 1940 at Grafton, a daughter of the late Walter Harold Shannon and Mary Delores Simpson Shannon. On May 3, 1958 at Oakland, Md., she was married to Karl B. Myers, who survives. They had celebrated fifty-one wonderful years of marriage.
Surviving are one son Karl Michael Myers and wife Toni of Parsons, Toni was a special caregiver and friend to her in her time of need; one daughter Debra Teets and husband Sam of Richmond, Va.; two brothers Larry Shannon and wife Arline and Ronald Shannon and wife Marcia, all of Morgantown; one sister Helen Phillips and husband Charles of Morgantown; one grandson S. Sgt. Karl Wayne Myers, currently serving his second tour of duty in Iraq; and three granddaughters Tamara Myers of Cumberland, Md. and Shannon and Samantha Teets of Richmond, Va; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of Morgantown High School.
While living in Keyser in Mineral Co. for thirty-one years, she was a member of the Laureldale Homemakers Club and the Sunnyside Church of the Brethren of which she also was a member of the Women’s Fellowship of the church. She and her husband moved to the Parsons area in 1990. Her hobbies included sewing for her family, quilting and working in her flower beds. She was a caretaker for her friend and neighbor Elda Ball for twenty years.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Saturday, Aug. 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Sunday, Aug. 16 at 1 p.m. Pastor Allen Dale Crosten officiated and interment followed at the Mt. View Cemetery #4 at Tunnelton. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, 105 Wilson Lane, Elkins, WV, 26241. Robert Poling

Robert Dale Poling Sr., 67, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 11, at the Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins.
He was born Friday, April 3, 1942 at Parsons, a son of the late Roy Thomas Poling and Rella Vivian George Poling. On Jan. 4, 1963 at Parsons, he was married to the former Karen Jean Phillips Poling, who survives.
Surviving are three sons Robert Dale Poling Jr., David Allen Poling and Mark Allen Poling, all of Parsons; one daughter Roberta Jean Alderman and husband Chris of Parsons; two brothers Thomas Roy Poling of Parsons and William “Billy” Poling and wife Betty of Fla.; one sister Sharon Phillips and husband Edward of Parsons; and five grandchildren Michael Andrew, Quintissa, Trevor, Emma and Trinton Allen.
Preceding him in death is one granddaughter Brittany Nicole Poling.
He attended the schools of Tucker County. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam Conflict having earned the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was an employee of the former Woodflex Flooring Co. and he was a former employee of Walmart as a sales associate.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday, Aug. 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Friday, Aug. 14 at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Jeff Anderson officiated and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, where the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker County Veterans Association conducted full military rites. Ruth Rizer
Ruth Parsons Rizer, 95, a resident of Parsons, departed this life early Monday morning, Aug. 17 at Valentines Personal Care Home at Elkins. Henry Smith
Henry Clay Smith, 70, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Saturday evening, Aug. 15, at this home.
He was born Friday, Oct. 28, 1938 at Piedmont, a son of Glenn Curtis “Tink” Smith, who survives at Berkley Springs and the late Nancy Virginia Pleasants Smith, who preceded him in death Sept. 15, 1965. On Dec. 17, 1960 at Westernport, Md., he was married to the former Elaine Metcalfe, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons Forrest Clay Smith and wife Ramona of Oak Hill and Eric Scott Smith and wife Janice of Lynchburg, Va.; one sister Judy Pennings and husband Bruce of Berkley Springs; four grandchildren Allison Paige Smith, Ethan Forrest Smith, Alishia Renee Deeds and Kerri Lynn Deeds; and one great-grandson Grayson Everse Deeds.
He was a graduate of Piedmont High School with the Class of 1956. He attended the University of Maryland, Potomac State, West Virginia University, Purdue University and Syracuse University. He was a Forester, retiring during 1994. He was a Fellow of the Society of American Foresters, the Woodland Owners Association of WV, the WV Christmas Tree Growers Association, the Registered Foresters of WV, the WV Agriculture and Forestry Hall of Fame, WV Forestry Alumni Association, and the National Wild Turkey Federation. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
The family received friends at the First United Methodist Church of Parsons on Tuesday, Aug. 18 from 4 to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the church on Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 1 p.m. The Rev. Jeff Anderson will officiate and interment will follow at the Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the First United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 101 First St., Parsons, WV. 26287.
