Eleanor L. Bennett
Eleanor Louise Bennett, 74, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Aug. 13, in Highgate Senior Living.
Eleanor was born on Sept. 12, 1932, at Dryfork, at the family home of her parents Fred and Lectie Cooper. She grew up there, graduated from high school and attended nursing school for one year.
She then met the love of her life, Joseph Bennett, and they were married on Jan. 20, 1951, and remained happily married for over 48 years. Joseph preceded her in death on Aug. 4, 1999.
The Lord blessed their marriage with two children, Frederick (Fred and Beth Bennett of Chattanooga, Tenn.), and Deborah (Deb and Ed Smith of Billings). They were also blessed with four grandchildren, Jason and Justin Smith of Billings, Amy Bonebright and husband Kelly and recent daughter Ellie of Lynchburg, Va., and David Bennett of of Chattanooga, Tenn. All of these survive Eleanor. She loved her grandchildren.
Eleanor and Joseph loved to travel and lived in West Virginia, Warren, Ohio, and later in Sarasota, Fla. In later years and declining health, Eleanor moved to Billings to be closer to her daughter Deb.
She loved church, missionaries and seeing people trust the Lord as their Savior. Even in her last days, she lived her faith in Christ and loved people. Anyone who knew her would never forget this very special lady of grace and dignity.
On Monday evening, Aug. 13, at Highgate, surrounded by her family and friends, she entered into the presence of her wonderful Savior. “---willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” (II Cor. 5:8)
The memorial service in Billings was held at the West Side Baptist Church, 323 S. 32nd St. Wm at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15. Public viewing and greeting the family will precede the service at 1 p.m. A reception for family and friends immediately followed the service. Final service and interment took place in Davis. Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18 at Community Bible Church in Davis. The funeral service was at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Community Bible Church. Interment will follow in North Fork Cemetery with REv. Glen Huegenin officiating.. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be given to West Side Baptist Church for the purchase of Bibles for missionaries in China and Ukraine or to Community Bible Church, P.O. Box 14, Davis, WV 26260.
Clifford Pennington
Clifford “Jimmy” Pennington Jr., 39, of Ellerslie, Md. and formerly of Thomas, died Aug. 19 at Cumberland Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
He was born Feb. 13, 1968, at Parsons, a son of Clifford James Pennington Sr. and Lurae Marlene Gatto Pennington.
Also surviving are his girlfriend, Marie Twigg of Ellerslie, Md.; two sons, Justin Pennington of Jackson, Mich., and Dakota Pennington of Ellerslie, Md.; two daughters, Brittney Pennington of Accident, Md., and Cortney Pennington of Ellerslie, Md; one brother, Dale Pennington of Thomas; and his grandmother, Hazel Gatto of Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Boyd Pennington and Victor Gatto of Thomas; and grandmother Hazel Gatto of Thomas.
Jimmy was a graduate of Tucker County High School with the class of 1986. He was employed as an over the road truck driver.
Friends will be received at the Hinkle Funeral Home on Wednesday, Aug 22 from 5 to 9 p.m.. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Davis Church of God with the Rev. Larry Idleman officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
