Christopher A. Ends

Christopher Alan Ends, 39, a resident of Parsons, and more recently a resident of Mocksville, N.C., departed this life Aug. 24, at Mocksville, N.C. Death was attributed to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born Saturday, July 27, 1968, at Parsons, a son of Sherley A. and Rhonda Jane Lawrence Ends, who survive in Parsons. On Sept. 16, 2000, in Parsons, he was married to the former April Dawn Vanover, who survives at Mocksville, N.C.

Also surviving are three daughters, Trista Renee Ends of Elkins, Alexa Christine Ends and Lacey Nicole Ends of Mocksville, N.C.; two brothers; Danny Wayne Ends and wife Tammy and George Michael “Mike” Ends, all of Parsons; three nephews; Zach, Brittan and Nick Ends and one niece, Lalah Ends; his paternal grandmother, Lalah Ends of Parsons; and maternal grandmother, Anna Lawrence of Hambleton.

Preceding him in death are his grandfathers, Doyle C. Ends and Charles A. Lawrence.

He was a graduate of Tucker County High School with the class of 1986.  He owned and operated Dream Builders of Mocksville, N.C. He loved to ride and race ATVs, he was an avid hunter, he also loved spending time with his family.

The family received friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday, Aug. 28 from 5 to 8 p.m.. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Wednesday, Aug. 29 at 1:30 p.m.  Pastor Clifford Kincaid will officiate and interment will follow at Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. Paul Fortney

Paul Raymond Fortney, 51, of Reader died Saturday, Aug 18 at Wheeling Medical Park. 

He was born Sept. 23, 1955 in Clarksburg, the son of Juanita Fortney and the late Rev. Franklin Fortney. 

Paul was employed by Bayer Corporation for 28 years as a chemical operator and shift foreman in the iron oxide department.  He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints where he served as branch president for five years, primary and Sunday school teacher and branch clerk.  He enjoyed restoring vehicles and attending car shows with his boys.  

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 33 years Sandra Fortney; two sons Leslie Fortney and wife Nichole and Brice Fortney and his wife Joanna and their son Braden James, all of New Martinsville; three sisters Shirley (and Doug) Bucher of Reader, Sally (and John) Purnell of Parsons and Anita (and Tom) Nuzum of Fairmont; several nieces and nephews; along with his loving cats, Angel and Twinkle.   

Friends were received from 2 to 9 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home, Pine Grove on Tuesday, Aug. 21.  Services were Held on Wednesday, Aug. 22 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, New Martinsville.  Interment followed at Martins Flats Cemetery, Piney Memorial contributions may be made in Paul's honor to the Wetzel County Animal Shelter.  

James H. Roy

James Howard Roy, 59, a former resident of Tucker County and a resident of Weston, departed this life early Monday morning, Aug. 27, at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center at Clarksburg. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to cancer.

He was born Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1948, at Elkins, a son of the late Howard “Hank” Roy and Velma “Poke” Lipscomb Roy.  He was formerly married to Brenda Ketchem of Parsons.

Surviving are two sons, Jessie James Roy and Jared Wayne Roy and one daughter, Stefanie Lynn Poling and husband Joshua, all of Parsons; three brothers, Joseph Allen Roy and wife Linda of Fayetteville, N.C., Steven Dale Roy of Keyser and William Lynn Roy of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; one sister, Tonya Ruth Barkley and husband Daniel of Blackman Heights Community; four grandsons, Dalton Roy of Davis, Grant Poling, Nolan Poling and Reece Poling, all of Parsons.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Roy.

He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1966. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a graduate of Davis & Elkins College during 1993. He was a former coal miner with the Kitt Energy Mines at Philippi. He was a Registered Nurse working at the William R. Sharp Jr. Hospital at Weston.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Wednesday, Aug. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Thursday, Aug. 30, at 11 a.m. Pastor Allen Dale Crosten will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. Danny E. Sturms

Danny Edward Sturms, 58, a resident of Hendricks, departed this life Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to cancer.

He was born Wednesday, Aug. 3, 1949, at Parsons, a son of the late Howard Wilson Sturms and Mary Edna Simmons Sturms.  On Aug. 3, 1967, at Piqua, Ohio, he was formerly married to Wanita Diane Jenkins Sturms, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Shane Wilson Sturms and wife Natasha Lynn of Indian Lake, Ohio; one daughter, Angela Marie Sturms and fiancé James David Gatto of Hendricks; one brother Ronald Dale James and wife Susan of Bradford, Ohio; five sisters; Brenda Sue Shoe of Minn,, Martha Jean Simmons and husband Doug of Pheasant Run Community, Mary Elizabeth Swartz of Parsons, Sheila Ann Johnson of Piqua, Ohio, and Nancy Joy Bach of Lima, Ohio; one uncle, Fred Milton Simmons of Blackman Flats; four grandchildren, Talisha Dawn Sturms, Chas Sturms, Tiffany Lynn Sturms and Brittnie Marie Sturms; one great-granddaughter, Haley Nicole Sturms; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Lee Epperson.

He attended the schools of Tucker County and Piqua, Ohio. He was a former employee of Decker’s Meat Packing Co. in Piqua, Ohio. He had worked in the coalmines of Kentucky and he was a construction worker.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Friday from 1 until 3 p.m., the funeral hour. Pastor Carolyn Shreve officiated and interment followed in Fansler Cemetery at Hendricks. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Danny Edward Sturms.
