Elva Lantz
Elva Catherine Lantz, 94, of Anaheim, Calif., passed away Aug. 21 at Walnut Manor Care Center, Anaheim, Calif.
At the request of the deceased, her remains were cremated. Friends will be received Saturday, Sept. 2, at the Aurora Lutheran Church from 10 to 11 a.m., the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the Aurora Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the church of choice. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Harold McDaniel
Harold Gene McDaniel, 70, a resident of the Rosendorf Community, Hendricks, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Tucker Community Care Center at Parsons Aug. 7.
A memorial service will be held at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Saturday, Sept. 2, at 2 p.m. the family will receive friends one hour prior to memorial service. Pastor Carolyn Shreve will officiate and interment will followa tht e McNeeley Cemetery at Hendricks. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Harold Gene McDaniel. .
Robert Seaman
Robert Roy (Toby) Seaman, 98, of Clarkston, Mich. passed away Aug. 5.
he was born on march 31, 1908, in Midland and raised in Coketon, a son of John and Elizabeth Seaman. He was married to Zelda Pase in June of 1929. They had just celebrated 77 years of marriage.
He was the last remaining member of his immediate family.
Survivors include one daughter Shirley (and Marvin) Landry; three grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was retired from General Motors where he was a forman of the Pontiac division. He stayed very active helping neighbors, working on his home and yard and his crafts. He loved to pitch horseshoes and played up into his 90's and won many trophies.
Graveside services were held in Michigan.
Maxine Simmons
Maxine Doris White Simmons, 72, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Sunday morning, Aug. 20, at her home. She had been in declining health.
She was born Sunday, Feb. 25, 1934, at Harman, a daughter of the late George Washington White and Carrie Pennington White. She married Dearl C. Simmons in 1952 and traveled extensively with him during his Air Force Career, before settling in Parsons.
Surviving are six children, Ronald Lynn Simmons and wife Karen of Harker Heights, Texas, Pamela Ann Gonzales and husband Andy of Del Rio, Texas, Terry Glenn Simmons and wife Teresa of Parsons, Charles David Simmons and wife Mary of Winchester, Va., Mary Ellen Pearson and husband Ted of Follansbee and Donna Jean Bishoff and husband Chris of Parsons; four brothers, Charles Graham and wife Ann of Aurora, Colo., George W. White Jr. and wife Irene of Bricktown, N.J., Roy White and wife Grace of Elkins and George Nelson and wife Judy of West Minister, Md.; thirteen grandchildren, Melanie McIlwaine, Jennifer Simmons, Shaun Gonzales, Christopher Gonzales, Chasity Sharp, Brandon Corcoran, Ashley Corcoran, Michael Corcoran, Christopher Corcoran, Brittany Pearson, Tiffany Pearson, Jessica Bishoff and Zachary Bishoff; and a longtime friend, Edward Lee Tennant.
Preceding her in death was one sister, Mary Marie White.
She was a graduate of Aurora High School with the class of 1952. She was a former employee of the Shop-n-Save at Parsons, Island Creek Coal Company of Bayard, Big Tee Family Restaurant and the H & P Store of Parsons. She was employed as a Food Service Supervisor at the Davis Center for 21 years. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Parsons and graduated from the Institute of Biblical Studies of Lynchburg, Va.
The family received friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor Thursday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. Pastor Allen Dale Crosten officiated and interment followed in Pennington Cemetery at Dry Fork. Paul Vandevander ![]()
Paul Junior Vandevander, 82, a resident of the Pheasant Run Community, Kerens, went home with the Lord, Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 22, 2006, at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.
He was born Thursday, Feb. 21, 1924, at Osceola, a son of the late Edward Isaac and Willa Chloe Armentrout Vandevander. On Sept. 29, 1945, at Harman, he was married to the former Edith Rosetta Thompson, who survives at Kerens.
Also surviving are two sons and four daughters, Nancy Marie Kalar and husband Joe, Kenneth Edward Vandevander and wife Wanda, all of Kerens, Pauletta Ramsey and husband Brad of Parsons, Benny Jay Vandevander and wife Maureen, Norma Gay Channell and husband Gary, and Rebecca Sue Arbogast and husband Cletus Ray, all of Kerens; one brother, Delbert Vandevander; two sisters, Ethel White and Catheryn Ruddle; 13 grandchildren, Jody and Billy Kalar, Kevin, Tim and Jason Vandevander, Heather, Dan and Erin Ramsey, Debbie Lawrence and Mike Vandevander, Bryan Channell and Amy Barrett and Adam Arbogast; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Stanford; two sisters, Wanda and Pauline; and one great-grandson, Noah Michael Vandevander.
Paul was a Veteran of the United States Marie Corps serving during World War II. He was disabled having been a collision repairman and a member of the Operators and Engineers Union. He was a farmer and in 1979 he became one of the first paramedics in Tucker County.
He was Past Master of Pythagoras Lodge #128 A.F. & A.M. of Parsons, The Scottish Rite and the Osiris Temple of Wheeling. He was an active member of the Irons Chapel Church.
The family received friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday, Aug. 24 from 5 to 9 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor Friday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m. The Rev. J. Michael Lantz officiated and interment followed in Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, where the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion and the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War conducted full military rites and the Masonic Lodge #128 A.F. & A.M. of Parsons conducted Masonic graveside rites. Jimmy Wolford
Jimmy Aaron Wolford, 63, of Dry Fork, passed away Aug. 24 at Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas.
He was born Sept. 24, 1943, at Harman, a son of the late Aaron Branson and Evelyn Cressie White Wolford.
He is survived by wife, Judith Wolford; three sons, Allen Wolford of Elkins, Michael Wayne and wife Marina Wolford, of Leadmine and Vincent Wolford of Fulks Run, Va.; one daughter, Angie and husband Wayne Walters of Elkton, Va.; two brothers, Billy Wolford of Cabins and Ed Wolford of Ohio; one sister, Imogene Ratliff of Singers Glen, Va.; two half sisters, Ethel Judy of Elkins and Mabel Bowyers of Keyser; eight grandchildren, Shasta, Robert, Kayla, Zachary, Cody and Nickolas Wolford, Kolby and Amber Walters; one great-granddaughter, Bailey Madison; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Gorman and Carol.
Mr. Wolford was a farmer. He had worked for WVDOH and Canaan Valley Resorts. He was a member of Harman Senior Citizens.
Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral Home of Davis on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services were held on Sunday, Aug. 27 at Lanesville Baptist church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John Mowers officiating. Interment followed in Wolford Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
