Joseph Mininger
Joseph Henry Mininger, 83, of Harman, died Aug. 30 at Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins.
He was born April 13, 1924 in Hatfield, Penn., a son of the late Henry G. and Sally Schlosser Mininger.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Eleanor V. Hangen Mininger of Harman; eight Children; Steve (and Mary) Mininger of Sod, Les (and Jane) Mininger of Lancaster, Penn., Phil (and Mary) Mininger of Paoli, Ind., Gary (and Diane) Mininger of Dry Fork, John (and Faith) Mininger of Hickory, N.C., Janine (and Phil) Kanagy of Harrisonburg, Va., Tim (and Ruth) Mininger of Champaign, Ill., and Betty (and Bill) Clifton of Stuarts Draft, Va.; 20 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two sisters Margaret Bucher and Gertrude Ziegler.
Mr. Mininger lived in the Harman area for 49 years, working in masonry and serving as the pastor of Riverside Mennonite Church before retiring. He was a Randolph County School bus driver for 26 years. Mr. Mininger was a servant of the people, serving his community as both pastor and friend before going to his heavenly home. Joe will be remembered by his family as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Friends were received at the Dry Fork Assembly of God Church on Sunday, Sept. 2 from 2-5 p.m. Following a private interment in the Old Smith Family cemetery on Harman Mountain Farm, a public memorial service was held on Monday, Sept. 3, at 2 pm. at the Dry Fork Assembly of God Church with Rev. Robert Wenger officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Dry Fork Recreation Center or Mountain Hospice. Hinkle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Adair Holtvoigt
Adair Clarisse Holtvoigt, 73, of Canaan Valley passed away Aug. 29, at her home.
She was born April 20, 1934 in Tulsa, Okla., a daughter of the late Homer and RAmona Beekman Amrstrong.
She is survived by two sons Stephen Egelhoff of Brookfield Conn. and Phillip D. Egelhoff of Lafayette, Ind.; two daughters Stephanie G. Loput of Los Angeles, Calif. and Kimberly A. Beafore of Canaan Valley; one brother Samuel Armstrong of Fort Wayne, Ind.; five grandchildren; and her former husband Robert E. Kain.
She was preceded in death by one daughter Kara K. Kain.
Ms. Holtvoigt worked as a secretary for architectural firms prior to retirement. She enjoyed casinos and traveling.
At the request of the deceased, her remains were cremated. Hinkle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Donald Roy Sr. ![]()
Donald Lee Roy Sr., 80, a resident of Parsons and more recently a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home at Thomas, departed this life Sunday evening, Sept. 2 at the nursing home. He had been in declining health.
He was born Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1926 at Hendricks, a son of the late Chester Roy and Myrtle Davis Roy. He was married to t he former Mildred Helmick, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving companion Helen.
Also surviving are two son Donald L. Roy Jr. and wife Patty of Parsons, Michael R. Roy and wife Carolyn of Auburn, Ind.; one daughter Kathy Lynn Leach and husband Ernie of Garrett, Ind.; two brothers, Jesse "Stub" Roy and wife Gloria of Elkins and Hoy "Pete" Roy and wife Carol of Parsons; three sisters Catherine Kyle and husband John of Hendricks, Clara "Peggy" Davis and husband John of Hambleton and Ida Mae Cross of Glen Burnie, MD.'; five grandchildren Debbie Davis and husband Randy of Thomas, Connie Jewell and husband Neil and Michele Roy, all of Auburn, Ind., and Ryan and Chloe Leach of Garrett, Ind.; one great-grandson Jacob Davis of Thomas; several nieces and nephews and one special nephew Mark and wife Toshia Roy of Elkins.
He attended the Hamrick School at Hendricks. He served in the United States Marines from 1945 to 1947. He was a Patrolman for the City of Parsons from July 1, 1969 until April 30, 1971, and Police Chief of Parsons from Dec. 4, 1984 until March 31, 1989. He was a Parsons City Council Member from July 1, 1998 to June 30, 2002. He also served as Mayor of Hendricks.
He was a former employee of Kingsford Charcoal Company and Western Maryland Railroad. He was a member of the Mt. Top Hunting Club and the Veterans Association. He loved hunting and fishing and going to the Farm Camp in Pendleton County.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Wednesday, Sept. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Loen Hevener and the Rev. Dick Gadd will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, where the H. W. Daniels Post # 29 American Legion will present the American Flag.
