Mary Evans
Mary Virginia McCue Evans, 83,died Sunday, Sept. 10 at Garrett county Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 15, 1923 in Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Price and Nettie Lantz; her mother Elizabeth (Lantz) McCue Campbell; her father Carl McCue; her brother Ivan McCue; and a sister Holly McCue.
surviving are her loving husband of 64 years Orville (Stub) Evans of Horse Shoe Run; one son Terry Evans and wife Kay of Horse Shoe Run; three daughters Gloria Waybright and husband Lee of Horse Shoe Run, Carolyn Baumgardner and husband Robert Sypolt of Kingwood and Athena Wilson and husband Timothy of Keyser; and one sister-in-law Donna Vance of Kalamazoo, Mich. She was adored by her seven grandchildren David Waybright and wife Lauretta, Marcia Waybright, Scott Evans and wife Melinda, Michael Evans and wife Rita, Christopher Taylor, Nicholas Taylor and Evan Baumgardner; two step-grandchildren Alisha Wilkes and Sarah Wolfe.
She is also survived byfour great-grandchildren Kenneth Clinegenpeel, Michael Clingenpeel, Kaitlin Waybright and Molly Baumgardner; four step-great-grandchildren Jordan, Morgan and Rachael Suit, Carson Wolfe; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Evans graduated from parsons High School in 1941 and spent most of her married life working alongside her husband in the fmaily business in Horse Shoe Run. She will be deeply missed by all.
Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral home, Davis on Monday, Sept. 11 from 2 to 9 p.m. funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church Red House, Md. on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Marjorie E. Lauver officiating. Interment followed in Texas Cemetery, Horse Shoe run. Hinkle Funeral was in charge of the arrangements.
Benson Lambert
Benson Franklin Lambert, 93, of Melbourne, Fla., and formerly of Red Creek, died Sept. 4.
He was born on the family farm at Red Creek on March 30, 1913, a son of the late James B. and Carrie S. Bennett Lambert. On Dec. 25, 1938, he married Ruby Gay Good at Red House, Md. She preceded him in death on Aug. 28, 1998.
He is survived by two sons, James R. (Bob) and wife Sandra of Hendricks and David A. and wife Sue of Melbourne, Fla.; son-in-law, Don Judy of Beverly; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Faye Judy; and one sister, Bessie Smith.
Mr. Lambert was a heavy equipment operator for many years in the mines around Davis and also operated his own excavation equipment in Canaan Valley. He was a member of the Flanagan Hill United Methodist Church, the Flanagan Hill Development Corp. which built the Community Center, IOOF Lodge 103 of Davis, UMWA District 31 and the WV Farm Bureau. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral Home on Davis Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. Funeral services were held on Thursday, Sept. 7 at Hinkle Funeral Chapel at 11 a.m. with the Rev. J.J. Johnson officiating. Interment followed in the Parsons City Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Melvin Simmons ![]()
Melvin Harry Simmons, 70, a resident of Herndon, Va., for many years before moving to Ashburn, Va., in 2002, died on Tuesday Sept. 5, in Lansdowne, Va.
Mr. Simmons was born April 8, 1936, in Davis, to the late Harry E. and Mary Bonner Simmons.
Mr. Simmons is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Jean Simmons of Ashburn, Va.; two children, Michael Simmons of Tampa, Fla., and Jo Ann Murray of Ashburn, Va.; two brothers, Jack Simmons of Oakland, Md., and Keith Simons of Morgantown; two grandsons, Joseph Murray and Harrison Simmons; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He served his country as a helicopter crew chief in the U.S. Army. Mr. Simmons had worked in the parts department of many Northern Virginia area Ford dealerships before his retirement.
Friends were received on Sept. 7 at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Center. S.E., Leesburg, Va. on Thursday, Spt.7 from 6-9 p.m. Services were held on Friday, Sept. 8 at the funeral home with Dr. G. Keith Almond officiating. Interment followed in Hillsboro Cemetery at Hillsboro, Va. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058-5216. Arrangements were by Loudoun Funeral Chapel, Leesburg, Va.
Charles R. Wagoner
Charles Roger Wagoner, age 53, a resident of Rt. 2, Belington, passed away Sunday, Sept. 10, at his residence.
He was born June 25, 1953, at Philippi, a son of the late Charles Wagoner and Coleen Ruth (Day) Wagoner, who suvive. He was united in marriage June 5, 1987 to Betty Virginia (Davis) Wagoner, who survives.
Also surviving are one sister, Karen Hardman of Philippi; and one brother, Robert L. Wagoner of Clarksburg.
Mr. Wagoner was employed at Morgan Auto Parts as manager and was a Baptist by faith.
Friends were received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St. in Philippi on Tuesday, Sept. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday, Sept. 13, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the service hour, with Pastor Henry Sharrow officiating. Interment will follow in Barbour Memorial Cemetery. Wright Funeral Home services is in charge of the arrangements.
