Carol Phillips Lewis
Carol Jean Phillips Lewis, age 69 years, a resident of Hendricks, departed this life Saturday morning, Sept. 16 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Kymberly and Matt Kittle at Martinsburg, WV. She had been in declining health.
She was born Saturday, April 3, 1937 at Parsons, a daughter of the late Russell Phillips and Peachie Carwell Phillips. She was married to Robert lee Lewis, who preceded her in death. Surviving are three sons, Eugene Roy and wife Carla, Greenville, Tenn.; Robert Roy and wife Lois, magnolia, Texas; Malcolm Roy, Pierce; two daughters, Vanessa Troutman and husband John Falling Waters; Kymberly Kittle and husband Matt, Martinsburg; one brother, Russell Phillips and wife Claudia, Calif.; one sister, Betty Nestor, Hendricks; eight grandchildren, Michael Sean, Jason, Evan, Travis, Sean, Beth, Blake and Ryan "Pookie" and one great-grandson, Noah.
Preceding her in death is one sister, Joan "Mick" Young.
She attended the schools of Tucker County, was a mother and homemaker and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Parsons Volunteer Fire Department.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 19. final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor, Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006 at 11 a.m. The Reverend Jeff Anderson will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery. Frances M. Kerzic
Frances M. Kerzic Nee Mamish, beloved wife of the late Albert, Loving mother of Linda (peter) Lessek, dear grandmother of Byron Given. fond sister of Julia Mamish, Edith Waskewich, Mary Forman, the late Mildred Beck and Justina Zimmerman. Also many nieces and nephews born in Davis, WV. Born Dec. 30, 1915 and lived there until she was 32 years old. Taught school in Tucker County, WV then moved to Maple Heights, Ohio, and lived primarily in Warrensville Heights, Ohio until she moved to Brunswick, Ohio in 1990 until 2005. Member of St. Collette roman Catholic Church in Brunswick, Ohio. Funeral mass was celebrated Sat., Sept. 16, 2006 at Saint Michael church, Wheaton, IL at 10 a.m. Int Assumption Cem. Winfield, Ill.
Lewis G. Shaffer
Lewis Guy Shaffer, age 75, a resident of the Brushy Fork Community, Tucker County, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 13, in Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins. He had been in failing health and death was attributed to Parkinson’s Disease.
He was born Friday, March 27, 1931, at Brushy Fork, Tucker County, a son of the late Okey Guy Shaffer and Oda Bea Boyles Shaffer. He had never married.
Surviving are one brother, Paul Dale Shaffer of Elkins; one sister, Lorlie Delaine Shaffer of Brushy Fork; two nieces, Karen Elaine Tallman and Paula Sue Lanham; one great-nephew, John Paul Tallman; and two great nieces, Kayla Lee Lanham and Samantha Jo Tallman, all of Elkins.
Preceding him in death was one brother, Edward Lee Shaffer.
He attended Brushy Fork School at St. George. He attended Brushy Fork Church. His kindness and generosity to all who knew him was unparalleled. His devotion to his family and love of nature where his hallmarks. The beauty that he created with wood will always be a tribute to his memory. He had a great love for his nieces and nephew.
The family receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m. Pastor Allan Dale Crosten and Pastor Robert Leard officiated and interment followed in Pifer Mountain Cemetery at St. George. Pearl Strawderman
Pearl Etta Roy Strawderman, age 95 years, a resident of Hambleton, and more recently a resident of the Cortland Acres Nursing Home at Thomas, departed this life late Wednesday evening, Sept. 13 at the nursing home.
She was born Saturday, Oct. 1, 1910, at Hendricks, a daughter of the late Hoy Ray Roy and Jeckie Sarah Helmick Roy Helmick Arnold. On Dec. 24, 1926, she was married to Earl Strawderman Sr., who preceded her in death March 29, 1978.
Surviving are two sons, Earl Strawderman Jr. of Holly Meadows
and Riley Lee Strawderman Sr. and wife, Onia, of Parsons; five daughters,
Florence D. “Dode” Hart, Gladys G. Hardy and husband Ernest, all of
Hambleton, P. Carol Ditch and husband Lee of North Carolina, Joyce Ann Fansler
and husband Harold of Parsons, Clarice Knotts and husband Don of Sugarlands; one
brother, Ernest Roy and wife Kittie of Saint Albans, W. Va.; twenty-one
grandchildren, thirty six great-grandchildren, and eleven
great-great-grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, five
step-great-grandchildren and five step-great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were one daughter, Shirley Marie Rosier; five brothers,
Chester Roy, Clifford Roy, Lester Roy, Thurman “Tuck” Helmick and Leon
Helmick; three sisters, Flodie Nestor, Josephine Phillips and Elsie Roy; and
three grandsons, Billy Rosier Jr., David Strawderman and Donald Knotts Jr.
She attended the school on Hendrick’s hill. She was a cook for Mon Valley Coal & Lumber Company near Oakland, Md., the former Parsons Nursery, she worked for the former Schilansky’s Grocery Store, and she worked for Tucker County Senior Center for twenty-one years as the activity coordinator. She was the treasurer for the Free Methodist Church for twenty-eight years of which she was a member. She was a noted quilt maker.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons Sat., Sept 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 1 p.m. The Reverend John Morrison and The Reverend Harley DeLeurere officiated and interment followed in Mount Zion Cemetery at St. George, WV. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to Hospice Care, P.O. Box 193, Parsons, WV 26287.
