Austin Carr

Austin William Carr, 7, of Thomas died at home Wednesday, Sept. 16 surrounded by his family following an extended illness.

He was born Nov. 25, 2001, a son of Ronald William and Melissa Jo Hull Carr. Also surviving are one brother Cole Carr at home; maternal grandparents Jim and Terry Hull of Davis; great-paternal grandparents Pauline and the late Lewis Carr of Parsons; aunts Melanie (and Aaron) Paugh of Harman and Rhonda (and Jason) Ends of Parsons; and several cousins.

Austin enjoyed school, computers, fishing, 4-wheeling, bugs and most of all playing with his brother Cole.

Friends were received on Thursday, Sept. 17 at Hinkle Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services were held on Friday, Sept. 18 at the Davis United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. with the Rev. James Martin officiating. Interment followed in the Davis Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements..

Pauline Carr

Pauline Grace Long Helmick Carr, 78, a resident of the Dry Fork Community, Hendricks, departed this life late Saturday evening, Sept. 19, at the Monongalia General Hospital at Morgantown.

She was born Saturday, May 9, 1931 at Gladwin in Tucker County, a daughter of the late Paul Bunyon Long and Alma Waybright Long Nestor Paugh. She was twice married first to Ralph Helmick who preceded her in death; and second to Lewis Kenneth Carr who preceded her in death, June 12, 2005.

Surviving are one son Ralph Junior Helmick and wife Melinda of Parsons; five brothers Frank W. Long of Parsons, Lee Long of Hendricks, Robert W. “Bill” Long and wife Rita of Parsons, Paul Douglas Long and wife Virginia of Hendricks and Dennis ”Denny” Long of Ohio; four sisters Ruby Huffman and husband Bob of Dry Fork, Judy Long of Alaska, Trudy Helmick and husband Rusty of Hambleton, Nancy Weitzel of Ohio; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are two sons Lester Helmick and Ronald Lewis Carr; one grandson Kirk Steven Helmick and one great-grandson Austin William Carr.

She attended the schools of Tucker County. She was a cook and a homemaker. She was an active member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church. She was an avid gardener and during her younger years, she loved to hunt.

Her most treasured pastime was spending time with her grandchildren.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. The Rev. John Morrison will officiate and interment will follow at the Mt. State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Molly Gooding

Molly Pauline Gooding, 91 of Pierce, passed away Sept. 14 at the home of her daughter in Crawford.

She was born Oct. 11, 1917 in Tire Hill, Pa., a daughter of the late Anton and Pauline Deblock Royce.

Survivors include one son Charles (Sonny) and wife Carol Gooding Jr. of Salisbury, Md.; one daughter Margaret Joyce and husband Cecil McCartney of Crawford; one sister-in-law Pauline Royce of Mentor, Ohio; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Molly was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Ray Gooding Sr. on March 21, 1989; and two brothers Louis and Joseph Royce.

Molly was employed as a grocery cashier and later as a cook at the Davis Center.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Thomas. SNPJ Lodge #129 and Walter Chapter OES #43. Molly’s caring for people was evident through her volunteer work at Cortland Acres Nursing Home for eleven years. She also enjoyed camping, quilting, baking and music. She sang with the Tucker Community Chorus and played the organ, guitar and harmonic.

Friends were received on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Hinkle Funeral Home from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the funeral hour. The Rev. David Jessie officiated. Interment followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Mick

Mary Evelyn Mick, 80 of Burlington, died Sept. 19 at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

She was born Aug. 16, 1929 in Ridgely, Md., a daughter of the late Grover M. and Della Wolford Flanagan.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edison Alfred Mick; two brothers Calvin and Jack Flanagan; one sister Virginia Sims; and one daughter Caroline Gopshes.

Survivors include two sons Kenneth D. (Shirley) Mick and James (Karla) Mick, all of Parsons; two daughters Linda D. (Delmas) Berry of Burlington and Sharon Mick of Stetson, Maine; one sister Mildred Bonner of Lahmansville; 12 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Mary worked on an assembly line in a blind factory for many years. She was a member of the Church of God and she enjoyed cooking for church dinners, gardening and quilting.

Friends will be received on Thursday, Sept. 24 at Hinkle Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. at Lanesville Bethel Church with the Rev. Ric Lewellen officiating. Interment will follow in the Flanagan Memorial Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Donald Nestor

Donald Ray “Toot” Nestor, 72, a resident of the Clover Run Community, Tucker County, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 9, at his home.

He was born Monday, May 3, 1937 at Cool Springs Park, Preston County, a son of the late Glenn Nestor and Josephine Eva Helmick Nestor Phillips. On April 5, 1958 at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Catherine L. “Kaye” Keister, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons Donald Roy Nestor and wife Patsy of Elkins and Jeffery Lane Nestor and wife Wendy of Md.; four daughters Pamela Jo Waugh and husband James of Clover Run, Mary Alice Knotts and husband Craig of Martinsburg, Teresa Diane Surock and husband Eric of Mt. Claire and Nancy Ann Simpson and husband Thomas of Clover Run; daughter-in-law Teresa L. Cooper Nestor of Clover Run; ten grandchildren Christopher Waugh, Mindy Winston, Kimberly Knotts, Travis Nestor, Daniel Simpson, Josh Hedrick, Brandon Nestor, Gracie Nestor, Erin Paige Nestor and Kylie Dawn Nestor; one great-grandson Hunter Winston; and two step-grandchildren Krista Collman and Adam Simpson.

He was preceded in death by one son Kelly Ray Nestor, who preceded him in death April 9, 2009; one brother Ronald Glenn Nestor; and one stepbrother Phillip Wayne Phillips.

He attended the schools of Tucker County. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force from Nov. 1953 until July 1957. He was an employee of the former Frazee Lumber Co. He was a former employee of L.C. Coal Co. of Kingwood. He helped build the first smoke stacks at the Mt. Storm Power Plant. He worked for Roscoe Nestor and he was an employee of Buffalo Coal for twenty-five years, retiring during 2004.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Eli Hostetler officiated and interment followed at the Nestor Family Cemetery at Clover Run. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Rosella Simmons

Rosella P. “Rose” Blosser Simmons, 86, of Parsons, departed this life Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins.

She was born Sunday, April 8, 1923 at Parsons, a daughter of the late William Blosser and Minnie Schoonover Blosser. On May 9, 1956 at Oakland, Md., she was married to Fred Milton Simmons, who survives.  They celebrated fifty-three years of marriage.

Also surviving are one son Roy “Jim” Oldaker and wife Rita of Virginia; two daughters Sue Bilby and husband Mike and Connie “Bootsie” Morris and husband Todd all of Hambleton; one brother Billy Blosser of Weston; three sisters Georgia McDaniels of Grafton, Bonnie Shingleton of Michigan and Betty Hull of Buckhannon; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are one son Robert Oldaker; five brothers Junior, Willard, Wilfred, Jack and Sam Blosser; four sisters Mildred Hansford, Pauline Miller, Juanita Martin and Wanda Newman.

She attended the schools of Randolph County. She was a former employee of Kingsford Charcoal Co., the former Parsons Footwear and the former Parsons Nursery. She was a member of the Parsons Chapter #91 Order of the Eastern Star. She was an avid Bingo player.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor Sunday, Sept. 20 at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Loren Metzner and Susan Metzner offi ciated and interment followed at the Mt.
