Gerald Bohon 

Gerald "Jerry" Bohon, 44, of Gautier, Mich., died Wednesday, Aug. 16. 

He was born Feb. 9, 1964 at Ft. Stewart, Ga. 

Jerry was a veteran and served in the U.S. navy for over 15 yeas.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Oney and Martha Elizabeth Bohon; and his maternal grandparents Heinrick and Marga Schnobrich. 

Survivors include his wife Diane Singleton Bohon; his parents Ralph and Doris Bohon; sister Marian (and Dan) Flores; two aunts, one uncle and numerous nieces and nephews. 

services were held Aug. 20 at 3 p.m.  Int terment to follow at a later date.  

Richard A. Cuonzo

Richard Anton Cuonzo, M.D., 87, a former resident of Parsons, and more recently a resident of Hoopeston, Ill., departed this life Saturday, Sept. 23, at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio, just one hour prior to his 88th birthday, after being admitted with an unexpected illness.

He was born Tuesday, Sept. 24, 1918, at Long Island, N.Y., a son of the late Peter Cuonzo and Jennie Trapani Cuonzo. 

Surviving are his beloved wife, the former Dorothy Leona Yaus; three daughters, Valerie Cuonzo of Lakewood, Calif., Marilynn Cuonzo of Elkins and Michelle Seaman of Chesterland, Ohio; five grandchildren, Angela Cosner, Joelle Simmons and Zachary Cuonzo, all of Lakewood, Calif., Marielle Gallagher of Elkins and Stephanie Seaman of Chesterfield, Ohio; and a one weekold great-grandson, Owen Carter Cosner of Morgantown.

Dr. Cuonzo was a graduate of the University of Tennessee Medical School with the class of 1946 and completed his medical residency at Charleston, where he met his future wife, Dorothy. He continued his education and research by completing two more residencies in cancer and surgery before joining his father’s practice in West Memphis, Ark. He worked there until 1960 when he moved to Parsons and started his own surgical practice in conjunction with the Tucker County Hospital at Parsons where he resided until 1971. At that time he moved to Hoopeston, Ill., where he practiced medicine until his retirement at the age of 80 in 1999.

A former member of the Hoopeston Rotary Club, Dr. Cuonzo led a full life with a zealous interest in everything he did, including his family, his medical profession and also as an avid equestrian. His interest in horses led him to show a few of his own five-gaited horses. He also enjoyed golfing, playing tennis, horseshoes and bowling in the Hoopeston Bowling League. An environmentally conscious person, he loved the outdoors and caring for his animal friends, especially his dog, Rusty.

In the last years of his life, he and Dorothy spent much of their time in Chesterland to be with family. His eloquent knowledge of history and language paired with his keen memory and great wit made him a fluent storyteller. He will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept 29. On Friday at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home, a prayer service will be recited by the Rev. Father Timothy J. Grassi. On Saturday morning, Sept. 30, Dr. Cuonzo will be moved to Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church at Parsons, where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.  The Rev. Father Grassi will be the presider and interment will follow in Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. A reception will follow at the church fellowship hall. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (L&LS) via Web site www.active.com/donate/tntnoh/tntnohrseaman in honor of those who have died from cancer-related illnesses or mail checks to L&LS in care of Bob Seaman, 2874 Woodbury Road, Shaker Heights, Ohio 44120 no later than Oct. 10, 2006. Anthony Mullenax

Anthony Wayne Mullenax, 64, of Salisbury, N.C., died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, at home.

He was born Aug. 24, 1942, in Baltimore, Md., a son of the late William Benny Mullenax and Susie Martin Mullenax. 

Survivors include his wife Gail Thomason Mullenax, whom he married Feb. 15, 1970; sons Eric and wife Dawn, Anthony W. Jr. and wife Dorothy and Jeffrey Mullenax, all of Salisbury, N.C.; two daughters Jeanette Mullenax Nichols and companion Ron of Ranson, and Anita Mullenax and companion William of Salisbury, N.C.; two sisters Edith Allman of Davis, and Alice M. Morgan of Reading, Pa.; seven grandchildren Ray Spry, Glenn Mullenax, T.J. Thompson, Genie Marie Mullenax-Nichols, Jessica Nichols, Cody McDowell and Amber McDowell; and one great-grandchild. 

He was preceded in death by four brothers Alfred and Lester Hartley and Walter and Gene Mullenax; and two sisters Tottie Mullenax and Goldie Evans. 

He graduated from Mountaineer High School in Thomas.  He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam and Korean wars. He retired from Permaflex Rubber in April of 2006. A member of Bethel Lutheran Church, President of Lutheran Men in Missions and Franklin Ellis Lions Club. 

Friends will be received on Wednesday, Sept. 27 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Lyerly Funeral Home.  Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28 at Bethel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Carroll Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Church Cemetery with Military Honors.  Memorials may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church, 355 E. Ridge Road, Salisbury, N.C. 28147; or ALS Association, 27001 Agoura Road, Suite 150, Calabasas Hills, Ca. 91301-5104. 

Wavie Phillips

Wavie Martha Mick Phillips, age 86, a resident of Parsons, and more recently a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home of Thomas, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 19, at the nursing home.

She was born Thursday, Feb. 19, 1920, at Elk, Dry Fork, a daughter of the late Joseph Martin Mick and Alice Christina VanMeter Mick.  On March 11, 1943, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Luther Phillips, who preceded her in death April 24, 1993.

Surviving are one son, Charles Kenneth “Kenny” Phillips and wife Eva of Parsons; five daughters, Alice Juanita Phillips of Belpre, Ohio, June Ann Phillips of Elkins, Linda Kittle and husband, Richard, of Belington, Shirley Tyson and husband, Baker, of Stevenson, Va., and Carolyn Sue Roy and husband, Michael, of Auburn, Ind.; 24 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

She is the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by three sons, Allen Jack Phillips, Luther Lee Phillips and Michael Ray Phillips; one brother, Charles Gabriel Mick; and one sister, Mary Jane Phillips.

She attended the Dry Fork Mill Run two-room school. She was a former employee of Parsons Nursery, the former White Gables and Kingsford Charcoal Co. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was a member of the Parsons Church of God.

The family received friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday, Sept. 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor Friday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Eli Hostetler will officiate and interment will follow in Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Wavie Martha Mick Phillips. Grace  Snyder

Grace Louise McCrum Snyder, 82, a resident of Hendricks, departed this life Saturday evening, Sept. 23, 2006, in Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins.

She was born Wednesday, April 23, 1924, at Humbert, Pa., a daughter of the late John Paul McCrum and Sarah Miller McCrum. On Sept. 5, 1943, at Baltimore, Md., she was married to Delmer Leroy Snyder, who survives. They celebrated 63 years of marriage.

Surviving are two sons, Earnest Leroy Snyder and wife Erma of Hambleton and Denzil Ray “Denny” Snyder and wife Aleta “Snoozie” of Fairmont; two daughters, Janet Louise Long of Parsons and Vera Virginia Hedrick and husband John of Hendricks; one brother, Paul McCrum and wife Freda of Ohio; one sister, Jean Smith of Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Cindy, Todd, Michael, Michelle, Tabitha and Melyssa; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Luther McCrum; and one sister, Pauline Yeager.

She attended the Hendricks Hill School. She worked for the former Parsons Nursery and the former Tucker County Hospital for many years. She attended the Pentecostal Church at Rosendorf and later the Parsons Church of God of which she was a former Sunday school teacher. She was a homemaker, a loving mother and grandmother. Shopping was one of her favorite pastimes. She was a noted cook. She truly enjoyed time with her cat Noah.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday, Sept 26 from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Eli Hostetler will officiate and interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery at Thomas. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Grace Louise McCrum Snyder.
