Janice Phillips
Janice Evonne Bennett Phillips, 54, a resident of the Blackman Flats Community, Hambleton, departed this life Tuesday morning, Sept. 22, at her home, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Friday, July 22, 1955 at Baltimore, Md., a daughter of John Bennett, who survives at Pennsylvania and the late Freddie Swanson.
On October of 1985, she was married to Kenneth Lee Phillips Sr., who survives
Also surviving are two sons Michael Collins Jr. and wife Carrie of Elkins and Kenneth Lee Phillips Jr. of Hambleton; one daughter Celena Marie Myers and husband Aaron of Hambleton; two sisters Pamela Short and husband Ron and Jackie Jackson and husband Charles, all of Maryland; two granddaughters Ashley Paige Lambert and Shayla Brooke Collins, both of Elkins.
She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1973. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker. Her two favorite pastimes were fishing and working puzzles.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday, Sept. 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor Friday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. Pastor Carolyn Shreve officiated and interment followed at the Fansler Cemetery at Hendricks. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com.
H. Douglas Preble
H. Douglas Preble, 83 of Timberline, Canaan Valley, died Sept. 24 at his home following an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 2, 1925 in Lorain, Ohio a son of the late Harold Denver and Ruth Hartsharn Preble. He is survived by his wife Betty Henley Preble.
Mr. Preble was a retired petroleum geologist. He was a member of Buena United Methodist Church, Canaan Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Canaan Valley Zoning and he enjoyed playing golf. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Canaan Valley Fire Department, P.O. Box 545, Davis, WV 26260 or Mountain Hospice, P.O. Box 140, Davis, WV 26260.
Friends were received on Sunday, Sept. 27 at Hinkle Funeral Home from 2 until 4 p.m. Funeral services were held on Monday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. at Hinkle Funeral Chapel with Rev. Allen Schwarz officiating. Interment followed in the Buena Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
