John Wilson Reed, 52, a former resident of Tucker county and a resident of Canton, Ohio, died Sept. 30 at his home. He had been in declining health, however death was unexpected.
He was born July 8, 1952 at Philippi, a son of the late Sylvania Reed and Kate gillis Synder Reed. On April 5, 1980 at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Margaret Knotts Reed, who survives at Canton, Ohio.
Also surviving are one daughter Stacey Lynn Reed of Canton, Ohio; five brothers "Chuck" Sylvania Reed, Jr. of Montrose, Charles Reed of Belington, Danny Lee Reed of Flemington, Woody Reed and Kenny Reed both of Philippi; two half-brothers Davie Snyder of Montrose and George "Bimbo" Snyder of Philippi; two sisters Mary Reed of Texas and Helen Cutlip of Sutton, and his mother-in-law Margaret Virginia Knotts of Texas Mountain.
He attended the schools of Philippi, was a former employee of the Kingsford Charcoal Company and the Tucker county Board of Education.
Friends were received at the Lohr and Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Saturday, Oct. 2. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Sunday, Oct. 3 with the Rev. Winfield miner officiating. At the request of the deceased, cremation will follow.
Guy William Slaubaugh, 87, of Mt. Grove, died Oct. 2 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.
He was born June 16, 1917 at Mt. Grove, a son of the late Somers and Iva Mae Wotring Slaubaugh.
He is survived by his wife Mageline Stemple Slaubaugh; two sons Guy Edward and Joey Wayne Slaubaugh both of Horse Shoe Run; two daughters Ella Grace Gaither of Leadmine, Nancy Jean Bolyard of Wrightstown, NJ; two sisters Grace Giordano of Eglon and Pearl Valentin of Fort Ashby; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters Beulah Hardesty, Lela Hause, Blanche Slaubuagh and one grandchild.
Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral Home on Oct. 4. Funeral services were held Oct. 5 at Hinkle Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Loren Metzner officiating. Intemrent followed in the Texas Cemetery.
Robert H. Young, 66, of Hookersville Road, Summersville, died Sept. 30 at home after an extended illness.
He was born July 2, 1938 at Charleston, a son of Hazel Belt Young Groves of Summersville and the late Fred Young.
Surviviors include his wife of 46 years Margaret Groves YOung; three sons Randy (and Kelley) Young of Sugarlands, Bill (and Lydia) Young of Summersville, Jason (and Missy) Young of Beckley; one daughter Sandy (and Rick) Wilton of Scott Depot; two brothers Fred "Bud" Young of Columbus, Ohio, Joe (and Sara) Young of Summersville; two sisters Brenda (and Tom) Coombs of Columbus, Ohio and Marsha (and Ronald) Sweeney of Summersville; two brothers-in-law Harold and Paul Groves of Calabash, NC; two sisters-in-law Hilda (and Charlie) Rapp and Sue McClung all of Charlotte, NC; nine grandchildren Ashley, Adam Whitnee, Hilary, Lauren,Casey and Jacob Young and Jordan and Matthew Wilton.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather Leonard Groves; mother and father-in-law Ceceil and Pauline Groves; sister-in-law Irene Young and a niece Connie Young.
He was a member of the Jordan Chapel United Methodist Church at Canvas, a member of the Summersville Masonic Lodge 76, the York and Scottish Rite Masons, a charter member of the Meddlety Valley Hunting Club and was a retired foreman for the Island Creek Coal Company.
Friends were received at the White Funeral Home, Summersville on Saturday Oct. 2. funeral services were held at the funeral home on Sunday, Oct. 3 with the Rev. Charles Wilson officiating. Interment with the Masonic Rites followed in the Walker Memorial Park at Summersville.
Rose Marie Carr, 77, of Thomas, died Oct. 5 in Oakland, Md.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. Hinkle Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
