'Herb' Starr

Francis Herbert (Herb) Starr, 73, of Aurora, died Oct. 13, at home after a long battle with cancer under hospice care.

He was born Aug. 5, 1929 in Lincoln, PA, a son of the late John Wallace and Annie Ruth Plunket Starr.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Avelue Jean Harsh Starr, of Rockhill, SC; three daughters, Shirley (and Danny) Thomas, of Aurora, Genny (and Alan) Casto, of Dresden, OH and Debbie Krites of Fort Wayne, IN: two sisters, Deloris Collins and Stella Lampe of Akron, OH; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Starr served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and the Reserves for nine years. After 35 years of service he retired as a dispatcher for Goodyear Aerospace. He was a member of the NRA, Western Reserve Knife Assoc., and he was affiliated with the Stemple Ridge United Methodist Church.

Friends were received at the Stemple Ridge United Methodist Church, Aurora, where services will be held today, Wednesday, Oct. 16, with the Pastor Michael Ludle and retired Pastor Joe Robinette officiating. Interment will follow in the Stemple Ridge Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of Preston County, Stemple Ridge Church Pavilion or the Aurora Ambulance Service. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Stanley Bonner

Stanley William Bonner, 80, of Dry Fork and more recently a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas, died Oct. 8, at the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.

He was born May 1, 1922 at Hendricks, a son of the late Ira Lakin Bonner and Lena Carr Bonner. On March 30, 1946, at Oakland, he was married to the former Nettie Marguarite Cole, who preceded him in death Feb. 10, 1990.

Surviving are sons Garry Eugene (and Jeanne) Bonner, Parsons, David Cleon (and Cathy) Bonner, Hendricks, Douglas William (and Linda) Bonner, Parsons; a daughter, Sandra Kay (and James R.) Lambert, Hendricks; five brothers, Don (and Louise) Bonner, Parsons, Roscoe (and Mary) Bonner, Canton, OH, Paul (and Betty) Bonner, Parsons, Coy (and Pat) Bonner, and Gerald (and Ellen) Bonner, all of Hendricks; a sister, Naomi Bonner (and Blaine) Sinclair, Parsons; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Forrest Bonner.

He attended the school at Mill Run, was a veteran of the US Army having served during World War II, and was an employee of the Penn Line Service of Scottsdale, PA, where he retired. HE was a member of the WV Farm Bureau, a farmer, and attended the First Baptist Church of Parsons.

Final rites were conducted at the Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home Oct. 11, with the Pastor Allen Dale Crosten officiating. Interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery, Parsons.

 

'Danny' Plum

Joseph Melvin (Danny) Plum, 63, of Rowlesburg died Oct. 9, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born May 23, 1939, in Manheim, a son of the late J. M. and Etta Shaffer Plum.

He is survived by two brothers, Alfred Plum of Tuscon, AZ and Randy Blaine Plum of Kingwood; two sisters, Wanda Matlick of Moatsville and Mary A. Riggs of Rowlesburg and several nieces and nephews.

He wsa preceded in death by a brother, Lewis (Buzz) Plum, a sister, Betty Lambert and a half-brother, J.E. Taylor.

He graduated from Rowlesburg High School, was a dry wall finisher and handyman, a member of FOE in Kingwood and Methodist.

Firends were received at the Browning Funeral Home, Rowlesburg where services were held Oct. 12. Interment followed in the WV National Cemetery, Pruntytown. Military graveside rites were conducted.

 

Edith Smith Harper

Edith Dorsey Smith Harper, 94, a native of Parsons and former resident of Hendricks, died Oct. 8 at her home in Hollywood, FL.

Born Dec. 2, 1907, in Parsons, she was a daughter of the late Edith Townshend Smith and Charles Dorsey Smith. She was married to Robert L. Harper who survives in Hollywood.

Also surviving are two daughters, Edith Ann Harper and Mary Harper; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Dagnon, all of Hollywood.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Arra Fentress and Mary Shiflet.

A private interment will be held at Parsons City Cemetery, Parsons. Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
