Elizabeth Duckworth
Elizabeth B. "Lizzy" Duckworth, 91 of Rawlings, Md. died Oct. 21. She was born Nov. 1, 1914 at Red Creek.
Survivors include a son, a daughter, seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m.
Georgie Dumire
Georgie M. Dumire, age 77, of Kingwood went to be with the Lord Monday,October 23, 2006 at Heartland of Preston County.
She was born May 11, 1929 in Thomas, a daughter of the late Earl Grow and Blanche Perks-Grow.
She is survived by four sons and spouses, Monzil Floyd Jr., and Nancy Dumire of Largo Fla., Michael Dumire of Largo, Fla., Mark and Donna Dumire of Schenectady, N.Y. and Rich and Pam Dumire of Kingwood; one brother Bill Grow of Frankfort, Ken.; three sisters, Elizabeth Betty Knotts, Dorothy Armentrout and Margaret Roy, all of Parsons; seven grandchildren and spouses, Jason and Amy Dumire, Linda Dumire, of Largo, Fla., Mark Jr., Brian and Lisa Dumire of Schenectady, N.Y., Scott and Jennifer Dumire of Kingwood; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Georgie was preceded in death by her husband Monzil Dumire Sr.; two brothers Earl W. Grow and Harry Grow; one sister Mary Dougherty.
She was a homemaker, loved to cook, enjoyed serving her Lord and was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She was a longtime member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Reedsville.
Friends were received at the Rotruck-Lobb Funeral Home, Kingwood Chapel Tuesday, October 24, from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Chapel on Wednesday, October 25, at 11am with Pastor Terry Hagedorn officiating. Internment will follow at Morgan Memorial Park in Reedsville. Betty Godwin
Betty Jean Ball Godwin, 68, a resident of the Mt. Zion community, St. George, departed this life Thursday evening, Oct. 19, 2006, at the Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins. She had been in declining health.
She was born Wednesday, Oct. 12, 1938, at St. George, a daughter
of the late Gay Ball and Pearl Strawderman Ball.
On Oct. 20, 1956, at Parsons, she was married to Philip Allen “Buckwheat”
Godwin Sr., who preceded her in death Oct. 20, 2003.
Surviving are one son, Philip Allen Godwin Jr. and wife Lorraine, of St. George; two daughters, Phyllis Ann Godwin Nestor and husband Matthew of St. George and Brenda Kay Godwin Beers and husband Steve, of Pennsylvania; one brother. Bobby Ball of Parsons; four sisters, Virginia “Virgie” Rosier and husband Denver of St. George, Deloris Morral and husband Richard of Elkins, Margaret Williams and husband Dorsey of St. George and Sandra Coberly and husband Gary of Beverly; three grandchildren, Lorraine Eisenhour, Nathan and Lance Beers; two step-grandchildren, James and Michelle Godfrey; and one step-great-granddaughter, Makayala Diaz.
She attended the schools of Tucker County. She was a homemaker. She loved to cook and garden, she was a real outdoors girl.
The family received friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons Monday, Oct 23 from 6. to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006 at 2 p.m. Pastor Pat Cassidy officiated and interment followed in Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. Stanley Harsh
Stanley Harsh, 81, of Terra Alta, passed away Friday, Oct. 20. On Oct.
3, 1945 he married Eloise Francis Fike who survives.
Survivors include three daughters, one son, one brother, four sisters and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother.
Hinkle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Robert Lambert
Robert Scott Lambert, 51, of Pierce, beloved son, husband, father and grandfather, passed away Oct. 16, at his home. He was loved by everyone who knew him and he will be greatly missed.
He was born July 30, 1955, at Parsons, a son of Robert Dale and Jeanette Christine Scott Lambert of Thomas.
Also surviving are his mother and father-in-law, Don and Mary Fink of Clarksburg; his wife, Marian Fink Lambert; two sons, Scott Lambert of Grove City, Pa., and Adam Lambert of Buckhannon; one daughter, Kelly and husband, Doug Heater, of Bridgeport; one brother, Ted “Mush” Lambert of Thomas; three sisters, Linda Nichols of Davis, Cindy Snyder of Thomas and Penny Kidwell of Thomas; one grandson, Samuel David Heater; and many nieces and nephews.
He was employed by Consol Mines for 22 years and most recently by Fairfax Machine and Welding of Thomas.
Scotty graduated from Mountaineer High School with the class of 1973, leading as quarterback to an undefeated football season. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a motorcycle enthusiast. He was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Thomas.
At the request of the deceased his remains were cremated. A memorial service was held Friday, Oct. 20, at First Presbyterian Church of Thomas at 1 p.m. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Belva Norman
Belva Jean Shahan Norman, 57, a resident of Parsons, entered into eternal rest Thursday morning, Oct. 19, 2006, at her home following a long courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Friday, June 3, 1949, at St. George, a daughter of the late John Alva Shahan and Pansy Johnson Shahan. On June 2, 1968, at Pifer Mountain, she was married to Robert Jacob Norman, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Jacob Norman and wife Janet of Charleston, S.C.; two daughters, Kathy Kisselbach of Winchester, Va., and Kimberly Lipscomb and husband Charles of Hambleton; two sisters, Dorothy Murphy and Dora Barb; and two brothers, Okey Shahan and David Shahan, all of Parsons; seven grandsons and one granddaughter.
Preceding her in death were one brother, Alva “Tom” Shahan Jr. and one sister, Orpha Shahan.
She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1967. Prior to her illness, she was an employee for Wal-Mart. She loved her family, enjoyed sewing and reading and was a member of the Sycamore Grove Church at St. George.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Monday, Oct. 23, at 11 a.m. Pastor Pat Cassidy officiated and interment followed in Pifer Mountain Cemetery at St. George. Herman Shoemaker ![]()
Herman Glenn Shoemaker entered into eternal life on Oct. 22 in the year of our Lord 2006.
He was born Sept. 19, 1924 in Parsons.
Herman is survived by his wife of 49 years Donna Shoemaker of Alexandria, Va. They have three sons Ernest (Doris) Shoemaker of Fredericksburg, Va., Larry (Vicki) Shoemaker of Dale City, Va. and Mark (Jeanette) Shoemaker of Fredericksburg, Va; seven grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren; one sister, two brothers; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Parsons High School and received his Bachelors Degree from Davis and Elkins College and a Masters Degree at West Virginia University in Morgantown. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1946. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 176, VFW Post 4322 and 40/8 Voiture Local 380, and a member of the Rose Hill Baptist Church. In 1951 Herman and Donna moved to Alexandria, Va. where he worked for the Alexandria Health Department for 33 years.
Herman raised his family, enjoyed many recreational adventures, hunting, fishing, camping, bowling, vacations, which are now carried on by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family received friends on Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Dr., Alexandria, Va. Funeral services will be held at the Jefferson Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at noon. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery.
Richard White Sr,
Richard T. “Dick”White, Sr., of 82 Mt. Airy, Md. passed away peacefully at his home Oct. 22 surrounded by loved ones.
He was born March 13, 1924 in Laytonsville, Md. the son of the late Harry Griffith and Margaret Riggs White. In 1948, he married LaVerna Miller White, also of Mt. Airy, Md.
Surivivng are four daughters Karen and Jim Kane of Taneytown, Md., Barbara and Mike McInerney of Greenville, S.C., Diane and Scott Hinkle of Davis, Lisa Hahn and special friend Mike Fair of Biglerville, Pa.; one son Richard T. White, Jr. of New Windsor, Md.; 11 grandchildren Marc Muller, Erica and Michael Kraemer, Meghan McInerney, Richard T. and Kandi White III, Lance Cpl. Daniel Crown Jr., Patrick McInerney, Ben Hinkle, Briana McInerney, Katie McInerney, Katerina and Anastasia Kane; four great-grandchildren Richard T. White IV, and Timothy, Dakota and Daniel White; two sisters Mary Daniel and Leland Hine of Gaithersburg, Md. and Anne White and Maurice King of Thurmont, Md.; many nieces and nephews and a special friend Marjorie Green of Damascus, Md.
Preceding him in death were two sisters Alverda Wotthlie and Margaret Riggs and one brother Harry Griffith White Jr.
He owned and operated White's Turf Farms in Montgomery, Howard and Carroll Counties until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the Md. Turf Grass Association, the American Sod Producers Association, and the Montgomery Co. Farmers Club. He served on the Advisory Board of Farmers and Mechanics Bank.
Family and friends will be received at Barber Funeral Home, Laytonsville, Md. on Oct. 25 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ricahrd Fredericks officiating. Interment will follow in Laytonsville Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Falling Green Fund of TCEF, Tucker Community Endowment Foundation, P.O. Box 491, Parsons, WV 26287.
