Elbert Annon

Elbert Lee "Sonny" Annon, 77, of Philippi, died Sunday, Nov. 5 in the Ruby Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness. 

He was born July 5, 1929 at Tacy, a son of the late George Ansel Annon and the late Ruie Ruth Boyles Auvil. 

His wife, the former Wanda lee Kirk survives at Belington.   Also surviving are three daughters Brenda Lee Keller of Outer Banks, N.C., Dottie Parsons and husband Michael of St. Augustine, Fla. and Lisa Renee Knight and husband Keith of Philippi; a half-brother George P. "Buddy" Annon of Cape Charles, Va.; three grandchildren William Marshall Keller of Hampton, Va., Shanna Leigh Bridge of Inwood, Dylan Keith Knight of Philippi; great-grandchildren mason Aaron Bridge, Aubrey June Bridge, Jarod Michael Bridge and Lindsey Renee Keller, several nieces and nephews including Julia Morrison and Glenn Auvill, both of Philippi, Loretta Williams of champagne, Ill. and his faithful canine companions Babe and Joy.  

He was preceded in death by one half-brother Clyde Melvin Auvil. 

Mr. Annon was a life-long farmer and was a retired school bus operator for Barbour county. He was a member of the Cross roads United Methodist church and the Barbour county Retired school Service Personnel. 

Funeral services were conducted at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 8, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 So. Main Street, Philippi, L. Burl Haddix, The Rev. David Stackpole will officiate and interment will follow in the Cross rods Cemetery.  Friends were received at the funeral home from 1 to 9 p.m.  on Tuesday Nov. 7 and from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Nov. 8.  Stemple & Forman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.  

Herley Fike

Herley William Fike, 80, of Keyser died Monday, Oct. 30, in Cumberland, Md.

He was born Feb. 18, 1920 in Parsons, he was the son of the late Earl E. and Elva Mae (Jennings) Fike.  He was retired from the B&O Railroad with 38 years of service. 

Survivors are his wife, Janet J. (Jenkins) Fike; three daughters Sue E. Rock (Ed) of Jacksonville Fla., Elva j. Lowery (Tom) of Cumberland, Md., and Linda F. McMahon (Harry ) of harpers Ferry; a son William L. Fike of Bastrap, Texas and Harold Fike of Hambleton; four sisters Elsie Nestor, Viva Williams and Noemi Chuff, all of Coleman, Mich., and Louella fike of Parsons; nine children and nine great-grandchildren.   

Elizabeth Fleischfresser

Elizabeth Massi Fleischfresser, 78, died Oct. 16, 2006.  she was born )ct. 31, 1927. 

She is survived by her husband, Roy; children Thomas and jean Fleischfresser and Mary (John) Lothrop; grandchildren Kristin and Kara; and siblings Solena Massi, Orlando Massi, Norina Subra and Thomas Massi; many nieces and nephews.  Funeral service was held Oct. 20 at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home in Oak Lawn, Ill. 

Margaret Halfin

Margaret Parsons Halfin, 90, of St. George, passed away Oct. 31 at Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas. 

She was born Feb. 3, 1916 in Parsons, a daughter of the late Worley and Eva Metz Parsons. 

She is survived by two sons Charles t. and Joyce Halfin of Mt. Clair and Robert J. and Sophia Halfin of St. George; one sister Mary Gordon of Philippi; five grandchildren Jeffrey Joseph Halfin, Kevin Schott Halfin, Joshua Scott Halfin, Cassandra Janein and Jeremy Michael Halfin; three great-grandchildren Haley Jane Halfin, Dakota Lee Ann Halfin and Mason Thomas Halfin; and one step-great-grandchild Jordan Humphrey.   

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Floyd Halfin on Sept. 1, 1996; and one brother James E. Parsons. 

Mrs. Halfin was active as a volunteer in community services at St. George Medical Clinic, Cortland Acres Nursing Home and the Cheat River Conservancy.  She was a member of St. George United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star Chapter #91 and she loved fishing and farming. 

Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis on Friday, Nov.3  from 5 to 9 p.m. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 4 at St. George United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Neil Parsons officiating.  Interment followed in the St. George Cemetery.  Hinkle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. 

Clara Hamner

Clara Isabelle Davis Hamner, 87, a resident of Parsons and more recently a resident of the Colonial Place at Elkins, departed this life Sunday morning, Nov. 5, at the Colonial Place. She had been in declining health.

She was born Tuesday, Dec. 31, 1918, at Elkins, a daughter of the late Carl Clifton Davis and Rose Hebb Davis.

On Sept. 4, 1941, at Oakland, Md., she was married to James E. Hamner, who preceded her in death, Jan. 10, 1989.

Surviving are two daughters, Elaine Friend and husband Bill of Middleway and Lois Jean Hockman and husband Steve of Sierra Vista, Az.; five grandchildren, Jeff Hockman of Charlestown, Anessa Griffith and husband Jeff of Jane Lew, Scott Friend and Kyle Friend, both of Middleway, and Aaron S. Hockman of Laramie, Wy.; two great-grandsons, Jared and Tanner Griffith of Jane Lew.

She is the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by two brothers Clifton Davis and Richard Davis; and one sister Connie Dietz.

She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1937. She was a member of the Parsons High School Alumni of which she was inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame. She was an active member of the Blackwater Chapter Daughter of the American Revolution. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Parsons and the United Methodist Women of the church. She was a homemaker.

The family received friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons Tuesday, Nov. 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. On Wednesday morning, Nov. 8, Mrs. Hamner was moved to the First United Methodist Church of Parsons where friends were received from 10 until 11 a.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Jeff Anderson officiated and interment followed in Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Yvonne Lambert

Yvonne Huff Lambert, 85, a resident of Parsons, and more recently a resident of the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center at Elkins, departed this life Monday morning, Nov. 6 at Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins. Richard L. Myers

 Richard Lee "Bo" Myers, 66, of Bremerton, Wash., went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 28, 2006, at home after a long illness. 

He was born July 8, 1940, in Benbush.  He was the son of  Fred and Bernadine Ruth (Helmick) Myers.  he was preceded in death by one sister, Susan Louise Myers. 

Surviving are one daughter, Laruen Mae (Myers) Corbett and a special granddaughter, Michelle, and grandson, Christopher, of Bisbee, Ariz; three sons, Carl Gary and Paul Myers of Tucson, Ariz., and their children; special companion of 18 years, Virginia Nurse of Bremerton, Wash.; two brothers Fred "Bud" Myers of Davis and James "Buzz" Myers of Bremerton, Wash.; one sister, Ruthann (Myers) Knotts of Crellin, Md.  He also leave behind special nieces and nephews Alan Myers of Culpepper, Va., Robert Myers of Grafton, Tena (Myers) Richardson of Ohio, James "Pete" Knotts of Parker, Ariz., Rick Knotts of Parker, Ariz., Rick Knotts of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Anne Myers and bill Myers of Bremerton, Wash. 

His body was cremated by his choice in Bremerton Wash.
