Olga Bowers

Olga A. Bowers (nee Osretkar) of Rocky River, Ohio, passed away on Sept. 6.  

She was the dear mother of Thomas (Lynda), Kathleen Aitkin (Tom) of Columbus, Ohio, Geoffrey (Sue) of Sacramento, Calif., and Christine Rickenbacher (Michael); loving grandmother of David, T.J., Lisa, Sarah, Emily, Ashley, Melissa, and the late Erin; sister of Elizabeth Skomp, Anthony and Frankl Osretkar, and the late Anna Mae Topper and Thomas Komac.  

Services were held at Zeis-McGreevey Funeral Home with private internmnet at Maple Shade Cemetery.  Memorials to the American Lung Association.

Maysel Cooper

Maysel V. Cooper, age 74, of North Lawrence, Ohio passed away Friday at her residence following a lengthy illness.  

She was born on Oct. 30, 1933 in Hendricks, to the late Homer and Grace Carr. 

Maysel lived in the area most of her adult life.  She was a graduate of Parsons High School where she grew up in West Virginia.  Maysel worked at Ekco Products for 12 years prior to raising her family.  She was a cake decorator, expert seamstress and enjoyed shopping and attending craft shows. Maysel loved life, her family and her friends.  She was a member of the 38th Street Church of Christ in Canton. 

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers.  She is survived by her husband Louis (Fritz) Cooper whom she married on June 30, 1956; a daughter Sonya M. (and Earl) Ash of Jackson Township, Ohio; grandchildren Ethan and Kenleigh Ash; a sister Rosalee (and Dorsey) Davisson of Massillon, Ohio.   

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, NOv. 20, at 4p.m. at the Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon, Ohio.  Her son-in-law Earl Ash officiated the service.  Inurnment will follow at East Greenville Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers the fmaily suggests donations be made in her name to: Memorial Fund at 38th Street Church of Christ, 3904 38th St. NW, Canton, Ohio  44718.  Messages of sympathy and support can be sent to www.arnoldlynch.com 

Augusta Fitch

Augusta Carrico Fitch, 90, of Fairfax, Va., passed away Nov. 14 in Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church, Va.

She was born March 1, 1917, at Coketon, a daughter of the late Chambers Lee Carrico and Laura Elizabeth Lipscomb.  She was the loving wife of Paul Arthur Fitch, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by one sister, Olive Carrico Heitz of Fairfax, Va.; three nieces; and three nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one bother, Lee Carrico; and two sisters, Hester Paugh and Bertha Rosser.

She was an active member of The Eastern Star, and a lifelong member of the Methodist Church in Davis. Mrs. Fitch worked for the Navy Department during World War II in Washington, D.C., and retired from management of an accounting office for Indiana Public Service. The proudest part of her life was her marriage to her loving husband, Paul, whom she met in WW II.

Graveside services were held on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 12:30 p.m. at Buena Cemetery, Canaan Valley with the Rev. James Martin officiating. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy Murphy

Dorothy Pansy Shahan Murphy, 69, a resident of Billings Avenue, Parsons, went to be with the Lord on Monday morning, Nov. 19 at her home where she was surrounded by family. Death was attributed to cancer.

She was born Friday, Sept. 2, 1938, in Tucker County, the daughter of the late John Alva Shahan and Mary Pansy Johnson Shahan.  On Aug. 6, 1963, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Charles Murphy who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Robert Shahan and Jim Canfield and wife, Aimee, all of Parsons; two daughters, Carol Nestor and Alfred Kooken of Clarksburg and Linda Simmons and husband Rick of Parsons; one sister, Dora Barb and husband Junior of Parsons; two brothers, Okey Shahan of Pifer Mt. and David O. Shahan and wife Debbie of Bretz; five grandchildren, Jamie Canfield Nichols, Dylan Canfield, Justin Nestor, Joshua Barkley and Kiley Simmons; one brother-in-law Bob Norman; one sister-in-law Minnie Shahan; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are one son Richard Murphy, who preceded her in death July 20, 1987; one brother “Tom” Alva Jr. Shahan; and two sisters, Orpha Shahan and Belva Norman.

She attended the schools of Tucker County. She was an employee of Hinchcliff Lumber Company retiring in 2006. Dorothy dearly loved her grandchildren and family.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parson Tuesday, Nov. 20  from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at 1 p.m. Pastor Pat Cassidy will officiate and interment will follow in Pifer Mountain Cemetery at St. George. Mary Whitehair

Mary Martha Whitehair, 88, of Thomas, passed away on Nov. 13 at Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas. 

She was born Aug. 22, 1919 in Davis, a daughter of the late Lawrence Hoffner and Anna Drenning Hoffner.  She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Whitehair in 1942. 

Survivors include one brother Frank (and Patricia) Hoffner of Thomas; one sister Ruth L. Hoffner of Thomas; six nephews and nieces; 10 great nephews and nieces; and four great-great-nephews and nieces.  

She was also preceded in death by one brother Lawrence Hoffner Jr.; one sister Anna L. Hoffner; and one nephew Frank V. Hoffner.  

Mrs. Whitehair was employed as a clerk and waitress.  She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.  She enjoyed her work and the people around her.  Crocheting was her favorite hobby. 

AT the request of the deceased her remains were cremated.  Funeral services are incomplete at this time.  Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
