Elloween Goss
Elloween L. "Pat" Nestor Goss, age 91 years a resident of Parsons, WV., and more recently a resident of Mansfield Place, Broaddus Hospital at Philippi, departed this life Tuesday evening, November 14, 2006 at Philippi.
She was born Thursday, April 29, 1915 at Parsons, a daughter of the late James Burton Nestor and Fayah Goff Nestor.
Surviving is one daughter; Sandra Lee “Sandy” Goss of Parsons.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by one brother; Hubert B. “Bud” Nestor and one sister; Alberta M. Chrislip.
She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1935. She was an employee of the former Von Havens Studio at Parsons, the former Cunningham’s Department Store and she retired from the Parsons Footwear during 1984. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Parsons. She was an avid reader and she was a noted cook.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday, Nov. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Friday, November 17, 2006 at 11 a.m. Pastor Bryan M. Headley and Pastor Eli Hostetler officiated and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Elloween L. Ruby Lipscomb
Ruby Lundy Lipscomb, 78, of Thomas, passede away Nov. 13 at Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins.
She was born May 25, 1928 in wolf Creek, Preston County, the daughter of the late Mack and Ethel Moats Bohon. She was married to Albert Bert Lipscomb who preceded her in death on March 29, 1991.
Survivors include four sons Charles Lipscomb of Kerens, Kenneth Lipscomb of St. George, Jonas Lipscomb of Thomas and Edward and Linda Lipscomb of Kerens; four daughters Wanda and Denny Knotts of St. George. Twila nad Make McGrath of cypress Inn, Tenn., Mary and Junior Johnson of Rowlesburg and Delores and Buddy Wycoff of Farmington; two brothers Roy Bohon of Terra Alta and Glen Bohon of Rowlesburg; 28 grandchildren Kenny Jr., David, Rosie and Hilma Lipscomb, Pamela Shelby and Frank Jr. Lipscomb, Deborah, Patricia, Edward, Michael and Melissa Evans, Denny Jr. and Josh Knotts, Gina and Michelle McGrath, Jessica, Laura and Alisha Lipscomb, Shannon and Jennifer Johnson, Ryan, Heather and Crystal Wycoff, Jessica, Kodey, Edward Jr. and Emma Lee Lipscomb; and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sons David, Arlie and Franklin Lipscomb; one brother Russell; one daughter Margie Evans; and two sisters Virginia Pifer and Mary Rinehart.
Mr. Lipscomb was a homemaker. She enjoyed living on a farm, cooking and taking care of her family.
Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral Home, Davis on Thursday, Nov. 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. Rev. Ralph Wycoff officiated. Interment followed in Bonniefield Cemetery, Leadmine. Hinkle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Kathryn Little
Kathryn “Katie” Kelley Little, one of the “Cookie Ladies,” age 89 years, a resident of Elkins Street, Parsons, went to be with the Lord and family Friday evening, Nov. 17, 2006 at Garrett County Memorial Hospital at Oakland, MD. She had been in declining health.
She was born Thursday, July 19, 1917, at Evanwood, a daughter of the late William A. Kelley and Millie Ethel Cross Kelley. On July 4, 1936, she was married to Delbert “Slim” Little who preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1993.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by five brothers, Clyde, Robert, William, Leroy and Dale Kelley; and one sister, Alma Pennington.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Virginia N. Kelley of Cresaptown, Md., and Rose Ann Kelley of Waukesha, Wi.; many nieces and nephews; her special caregiver and friend; Madelin Simmons; and her “Little Boy Gus.”
She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1937 and was inducted into the P.H.S. Alumni Hall of Fame in 2001. She had worked as the store manager for Cunningham’s Store and Parsons Department Store, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Parsons where she had taught Sunday school, had recently received her fifty year certificate and pin as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Parsons Chapter #91 and was the founder of the Concerned Citizens’ Coalition, which was better known at the “Cookie Ladies.” She was honored in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 16, 1998 by F.E.M.A. as Project Impact’s Outstanding Citizen during which she received a standing ovation. She was also awarded the Community Service Award by the Tucker County Chamber of Commerce. In December of 2000, she was awarded a plaque from Jason Myers for raising money for the new street signs in Parsons, and she had a large part in helping with the construction of the Veteran’s Wall in Parsons. She was well known for her rolls, cream puffs and peanut butter candy, and she was an avid reader and bird watcher.
The family received friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Sunday, Nov. 19 from 2 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m. Final rites were conducted from the funeral home parlor on Monday at 11 a.m. Pastor Ron Little officiated, the Temple Gate Quartet sang and interment followed in Parsons City Cemetery. Allen Streets
Allen D. Streets, 36, a resident of Manitowoc, Wis., passed away Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, at his residence.
He was born April 27, 1970, at Parsons, a son of the late John Robert Streets and Wanda Phillips Streets, who survives at Valley Furnace.
Survivors include two brothers, Robert L. Jean Streets of Parsons, Christopher Lynn and Penny Streets of Philippi; five uncles, Charles and Dorothy Murphy of Parsons, Samuel Claude and Mary Lou Streets of Valley Furnace, Larry Streets of Parsons, Timmy Streets of Valley Furnace and Joe Mick of Parsons; several aunts and cousins; one nephew Bradley R. Streets; four nieces, Brittany Streets, Ashley, Amanda and Cassandra Guires; and close friends, John, Cheryl and Ethetta Butcher and Andy Webber.
Mr. Streets was preceded in death by grandparents, Mary and Brown Streets; and one uncle Rodger Streets.
Mr. Streets worked for CPR Burger Boats as a mechanic/maintenance man. He attended the Shiloh Church of the Brethren.
Mr. Streets’ request for cremation will be honored. Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi on Wednesday, Nov. 22, from 1 to 2 p.m., the service hour with Pastor Gary Clem officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Cassel Cemetery on Shiloh Road.
Georgia Teter
Georgia M. Plum Teter, 98, of Ridgeley, died Monday, November 13, at the Cumberland Villa.
She was born December 23, 1907 in Parsons, WV, she was the daughter of the late Walter C. and Laura D. Loughry Plum.
Survivors include her four children, Rosalie Johnson Papageorge of Ridgeley, Laura Vere Johnson Murray and husband Dr. Jack Murray, Sr. of Cumberland, Karen Teter Gailey, Estero, FL, and John Frankling Teter and wife Judith Melbourne, Fla.; her sister, Vera Susan Plum Knotts, and husband Hubert of Parsons, WV; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Cecil Johnson;
her second husband, Ira G. Teter; a granddaughter, Sandra Lee Benton; and seven
siblings, Bessie Godwin, Ruby Stevenson, Mary South, Robert Plum, Joe Plum,
Elmer Plum and Frank Plum.
Mrs. Teter was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and the Ridgeley
Senior Citizens. She had also been a volunteer at the Allegany County Nursing
Home.
Friends were received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Cumberland, Md. on Thursday, Nov. 16 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday , Nov. 17 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Charles Erzkus and Dr. Jack Murray Jr. officiating. Interment followed in the Parsons Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were James Papageorge, Andrew Papageorge, Jack Murray Jr., David Murray, Douglas Aman and Cory Stout.
