Nellie Day
Nellie Elizabeth Hinkle Day, 96, a resident of Hambleton, and more recently a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas, departed this life Saturday morning Dec. 1, at the nursing home.
She was born Thursday, Dec. 15, 1910, at Pendleton County, a daughter of the late Charles Hinkle and Mary Ellen Bennett Hinkle. She was married to William Theodore Day, who preceded her in death July 21, 1969.
Surviving are one son, “Bill” William Dean Day and Wanda of Parsons; two daughters, W. Eloise Koskela and husband John and Peggy Lucille Disney and husband Warren all of Silver Spring, Md.; one brother, Blake Hinkle of Hendricks; 19 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were two sons, Warren Kelly Day and Kenneth Jack Day; six brothers, Willis, Russell, Boyd, Earl, Harry and Ralph E. Hinkle; and one sister, Gaye Judy; and five grandchildren, Ricky Grimes, Terry Ann Bennett, Michael Kelly Day, Danny Day and Mary Ellen Marshall.
She attended the schools of Randolph County. She was a cook at the former Hamrick School, and she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Parsons Chapter #91 Order of the Eastern Star for more than fifty years. She was an enthusiastic bingo player.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. On Tuesday evening at the funeral home parlor at 7 p.m., Parsons Chapter #91 Order of the Eastern Star conducted ritualistic services. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m. The Rev. John Morrison will officiate and interment will follow in Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Nellie Elizabeth Hinkle Day. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com.
Wanda Humphrey
Wanda E. Humphrey, 87, of Buckhannon, died Sunday, Nov. 4 in Crestview Manor at Jane Lew.
She was born Dec. 11, 1919, at Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Homer Shreve and Weltha Humphrey Shreve.
Surviving are a son David H. Humphrey of Texas; two step-sons Arlie Humphrey and wife Shirley of Baltimore, Md. and Floyd Humphrey and wife Wanda of Bunker Hill; one step-daughter, Onia “Sis” Strawderman and husband Riley of Parsons; one daughter-in-law, Rose Humphrey of Parsons; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Burial w held in the Buckhannon Memorial Park on Nov. 7.
Mary Whitehair
Mary Martha Whitehair, 88, of Thomas, passed away Nov. 13 at Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas. At the request of the deceased her remains were cremated. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas. Father Timothy Grassi will officiate. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
