Thomas Carr

Thomas Dee Carr, age 49, a former resident of Tucker County and a resident of Corunna, Mich., departed this life Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, in Owosso Memorial Healthcare Center in Owosso, Mich. Death was attributed to cancer.

He was born Thursday, Aug. 28, 1958, at Barberton, Ohio, a son of the late Lindsey W. Carr and Gertrude Hedrick Carr. On June 25, 1983, in West Virginia he was married to the former Pamela Moore, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Travis Carr of Texas; one daughter, Michelle Carr of Corunna, Mich.; two brothers, Terry Carr of Ludington, Mich., and Michael Carr of W. Va.; four sisters, Linda Canfield and husband Charles of W. Va., Bonita Yeager and husband Gene, Beverly “Bev” Simmons and Susan Rohr and husband Jamie, all of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were one nephew, Lindsey Rohr; and two nieces, Katie Yeager and Ashley Lipscomb.

He was a graduate of Parsons High School. He worked for Hanson Brick Company. in Corunna, Mich. He was an avid baseball and softball fan. He coached baseball and he taught his son and daughter how to play baseball. He loved hunting and golf. His family and friends were most important to him. He gave strength to everyone he touched. He took the family patriarch role and he loved his family farm in Parsons on Shavers Fork.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday, DEc. 13 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Friday, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. The Rev. Eli Hostetler will officiate and interment will follow in Kalar Cemetery at Shavers Fork. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Thomas Dee Carr. Ruby A. Horn

Ruby Alyce Helmick Horn, age 79, a former resident of Parsons, and more recently a resident of Seneca, S.C., departed this life Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at her home.

She was born Monday, Jan. 16, 1928, at Hendricks, a daughter of the late Noah Helmick and Ora Eddy Helmick.  During June of 1970, at Winona Lake, Ind., she was married to Donald Horn, who preceded her in death in September 1996.

Surviving are two step-children, Christina Horn and Jay Horn of Ind.; a stepgrandson; three nieces, Margaret O’Niel and husband Arnold of Big Sandy, Mont., Marilyn Clute and husband Paul of Hambleton and Carolyn Shreve of St. George; three-great nieces, four great-nephews, four great-great-nieces and nine great-great-nephews.

She is the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers.

She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1946. She was a nurse for Dr. Semon “Sy” Lilienfeld of Parsons. In 1965, she moved to Winona Lake, Ind., where she was employed at Murphy Medical Center in Warsaw, Ind. She attended the Full Gospel Church at Seneca and more recently the Faith Center Church of Walhalla, S.C. She loved her family and friends.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007 from noon until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Harley DeLeurere officiated and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Ruby Alyce Helmick Horn. John Dannenman

John Nicholas Dannenman, age 89, a resident Hendricks, and more recently a resident of Cortland Acres Nursing Home at Thomas, departed this life Tuesday evening Dec. 4, 2007 at the nursing home.

He was born Thursday, May 2, 1918, at Baltimore, Md., a son of the late John Conrad Dannenman and Elizabeth Bogart Dannenman.  On July 4, 1986, at Parsons, he was married to Matilda Paugh Dannenman, who preceded him in death Nov. 14, 1990.

He attended the schools of Baltimore, Md. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. John was known for his patriotic charisma.

Friends were received at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Monday, Dec. 10 from 11 a.m. until noon the funeral hour. The Reverend Father Timothy Grassi officiated and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, where the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion and the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War conducted full military rites.
