Garland Simmons
Garland Eugene “Sing” Simmons, 78, a resident of Parsons, and more recently a resident of the Cortland Acres Nursing Home of Thomas, departed this life Thursday evening, Dec. 7, 2006, in the nursing home.
He was born Wednesday, July 18, 1928, at Benbush, a son of the late Gilbert John Simmons and Sylvia Gae Poling Simmons. On May 7, 1949, he was married to the former Verla Ellen Lipscomb, who preceded him in death Dec. 31, 1999.
Surviving are one son, Donald Eugene Simmons of State College, Pa.: one daughter, Ronda Gae Baldwin and husband, James, of Lamar, Mo.; one sister, Dorla Gae Digman of Parsons; and two grandchildren, Kimberly Merideth and James “Jimmy” Baldwin of Missouri.
He was preceded in death by two infant brothers and one sister Rosalie Comegna.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1947. He was a former employee of the former Dorman Mills of Parsons, Dale Barr’s Electric, Dandrick’s Electric and Roberts Estates. He was self-employed with Sing’s Electric and was information foreman for Bonner’s Auto Body.
The family received friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Sunday at 1 p.m.. Pastor Allen Dale Crosten officiated and interment followed in Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons.

David Wilhelm
David Allen Wilhelm, 45, a former resident of Elkins and more recently a resident of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla., departed this life early Tuesday morning in Largo Medical Center at Largo, Fla., after an extended illness.
He was born Saturday, Aug. 12, 1961, at Parsons, a son of the late William Allen Wilhelm and M. Rosalie Wilmoth Wilhelm who survives at Elkins.
Also surviving are three sons, Jarrett, Jordan and Chaz Wilhelm; his former wife, Karen Bush Wilhelm; several aunts and cousins; and a special friend, Betty Mahoney.
David was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1979, and he graduated from Bethany College in 1983. He was very active in all sports throughout high school and college. He was employed by the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies as a representative.
His request for cremation was honored. A memorial service will be at a later date. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to First United Methodist Church, 315 Kerens Ave., Elkins, W.Va. 26241.
