Robert Metz ![]()
Robert Theodore Metz, 74, of Grafton, Ohio, passed away Sunday, Nov. 25, in Clearwater, Fla. of a sudden illness.
He was born April 21, 1933 in St. George. He lived most of his life in Grafton.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling. He recently resided in Holiday, Fla. He retired from U.S. Steel of Lorain, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his loving wife Helen (Haskiell) of 48 years; sons Timothy (Debbie) Metz of Holiday, Fla., and Everett (Dawn) Metz of Wellington, Ohio; daughters Pamela (Phil) Miller of Litchfield, Ohio, and Robin (Joel) Szczepanski of Grafton, Ohio; brother Frank Metz of Odenton, Md.; sisters Virginia Herne of Baltimore, Md., and Betty Bukowitz of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and beloved dog, Sadie.
He was preceded in death by his parents James Everett and Sarah Elizabeth; brothers Lee, Jack and James; sister Rosalee Shaffer and infant granddaughter Lauren Elizabeth Metz.
A memorial service by Rev. James Haskiell was held from 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at NOrth Park Community Room, NOvak Road, Grafton, Ohio.
Marjorie Pownall
Marjorie Lee Ambrose Pownall went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at her residence.
She was born Dec. 24, 1913 in Hambleton, the fifth child of Mable Brown Ambrose and James Burr Ambrose.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dick Pownall; one daughter, Joyce Lynn Pownall; three sisters Hazel Mateer Hoffman, Mildred Hawthorne Allender and Mary Elizabeth Kelly Cosman; and one brother James B. Ambrose Jr.
Marjorie grew up in Hendricks, where she attended elementary school and graduated from Parsons High School in 1932. On Aug. 6 she married Dick Pownall in Hendricks. In the mid-1940's they moved to Short Gap. From the late 1950's until 1974 they owned and operated Pownall Builder's Inc., a homebuilding business.
Marjorie loved and deeply care for her family and was always the center of fun at family gatherings. She possessed a great sense of humor and compassion for others. She enjoyed sewing, baking, reading, and her affectionate cats. In summer, she loved gardening and each spring looked forward to mowing with her lawn tractor. She was the oldest living member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church, Short, Gap. She had been a member for more than 60 years. She had also been active in the Wesley Chapel Women's Society and had been a charter member of the Short Gap Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
She is survived by one daughter Dixie L. Pownall and Charles E. Sibley, Jr. of Cumberland, Md.; one brother William B. AMbrose and wife Marlene of Parsons; a sister-in-law Jean Pownall of Ridgeley; and numerous nieces and nephews including James. T. Ambrose, Loretta K. Lantz, Donna Lantz Humber, Kay K. Gardner, Philip A. Allender, Karen AL Hilare, James B. Ambrose, Edward Ambrose, Mary Ceretti, Marjorie Sue Staley, Ruth A. Kalo, Charles F. Wimer, David E. Nutter, Helen Bingham, Mark Nutter, Andrew C. Boor, John Boor, William Boor, Betty Baer, Nina DiPasquale; and her loving cats.
The family is greatly appreciative for the love, prayers and support of fmaily, friends and wonderful caregivers during her illness.
Memorial services were conducted at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church on Sunday, Nov. 11 with the Rev. Martha Ognibene and the Rev. Richard Longbon officiating. Eddie V. Sharp
Eddie Virl Sharp Sr., 71, a resident of Elkins, departed this life early Tuesday evening, Dec. 11, 2007 at the Davis Memorial Hospital. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to cancer
He was born Sunday, Feb. 9, 1936 at Marlinton, a son of the late Fred Sharp and Roxie Galford Sharp. He was thrice married. First, to the former Betty JoAnn Piotrouski, who preceded him in death. During 1959, he was married to the former Marsha Smith Mick, who survives. On July 26, 2003, he was married to the former Wanda June Powers, who survives
Also surviving is one son, Eddie Virl Sharp Jr. and wife Debbie of Waynesboro, Va.; four daughters, Drema Moore and husband Jimmy of Marlinton, Mary Alice Simmons and husband Chuck of Parsons, Virginia Lee Sharp of Elkins and Kelly Lynn Proctor and husband Eugene of Summersville; two stepsons Jackie L. Goldsmith and Shane Bibey and wife Patricia all of Elkins; two stepdaughters, Yolanda Brown and husband Allen of Malabar, Fla., and Jolinda Effinger and husband, Mike, of Greensboro, Pa.; eighteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Eddie was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Preceding him in death were four brothers, Walter, Calvin, Frank and Fred Sharp; and three sisters, Edith Beverage, Ada Wilson and Grace Hannah.
He attended Marlinton High School and was a Coal Miner having worked for Consol Energy for more than twenty years, from which he retired. He was a member of United Mine Workers Local #2478, the National Rifle Association and the North American Hunting Society. He was an avid hunter, taking many trips to Colorado, and won many awards for his English Bluetick showdogs.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13. Final Rites were conducted at the funeral home chapel on Friday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m. The Reverend Pat Cassidy officiated and interment followed in Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman. Marena White
Marena Lucy White, 71, of Davis, passed away at Nella’s Nursing Home, Elkins on Dec. 10, 2007.
She was born Aug. 30, 1936 in Thomas, a daughter of the late Voil Foster and Mabel Mary Jones White.
She is survived by one sister, Charlotte Rager of Masland, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert White; and a sister, Ruby Ellen Campbell.
She was a member of the Community Bible Church in Davis. Her occupation was housekeeping. She enjoyed puzzles, making afghans and baking bread.
Friends will be received at the Community Bible Church in Davis on Friday, Dec. 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the funeral hour. The Rev. Glen Hugenin officiated and interment followed at the Davis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Community Bible Church, 4th St., Davis, W.Va. 26260. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
