Theodore W. Markley

Theodore Wilbur Markley, 80, of Thomas, died peacefully Saturday, July 7 in Montgomery General Hospital in Olney, Md.

He was born Jan. 15, 1927, at Shallmar, Md., a son of the late Joseph W. and Irene Turner Markley.

He is survived by his wife, of 62 years, Donna Cummings Markley; two sons, Richard and his late wife, Jill Markley, and Theodore D. and wife, Jackie Markley; two daughters, Toni Markley and husband Bob Helmick, and Donna Lynn Markley and husband Barry Oppenheim; nine grandchildren, Scott, Kevin, Shane, Justin, Wade, Andrea, Jason, Joey and Jenna; and six great-grandchildren, Kayla, Michael, Courtney, Paige, Evan and Madison.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph E. Markley; and two sisters, Betsy J. Paugh and Dorothy Boots McIntosh.

Ted was a graduate of Kitzmiller High School in 1944. He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the Army Air Force from June 1944 - Jan. 1947. He was a corporal in the 79th Fighter Group, serving as an airplane and engine mechanic. He was a member of American Legion Post #71 in Oakland, Md. He was mayor of Thomas from March 1989 - June 1994.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to American Cancer Society, 300 Scott Avenue, Morgantown, WV 26508 or Friends of Cortland Acres, HC 60, Box 98, Thomas, WV 26292.  

Friends will be received at Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. Wednesday  Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 12, at the funeral home with the Rev. Pam Scott officiating. Interment will follow in Nethken Hill Cemetery at Elk Garden. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Miller

Mary Leigh Tewell Miller of Salem Va. died peacefully on Sunday,l May 27 at Friendship Manor, Roanoke, Va.  She was 81 years old.

Mary was blessed to be born into a large, loving family with her 14 brothers and sisters in Davis.  She moved to the Washington D.C. area and was employed as a secretary of the Federal Government.  In June 1952, she married Clyde L. Miller at Falls Church, Va. 

Mary was predeceased in death by her parents Nettie and Moses Tewell; her husband Clyde L. Miller and her siblings James, David, Fred, Eleanor, Mollie, Helen, Ruth, Dorothy and Elsie. 

She is survived by her son Jerry L. Miller; her daughter Marsha L. Diamond; her grandsons Michael S. Diamond and Jonathan D. Diamond and her siblings Suzanne Pauline, Norma, Charlotte and Barbara; and many nieces and nephews. 

Mary was a generous, caring person.  Her family was the focus of her life; she was considered an unofficial family historian, keeping track of all births, graduations, etc.  The family celebrated Mary's life at Hinkle Funeral home in Davis at 1 p.m. on Saturday. 

Clarence Paugh, Jr.

Clarence George "Buzzy" Paugh Jr., 69, of Thomas, died Sunday, June 24, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital.  

He was born Nov. 30, 1937, in Benbush, a son of the late Sylvia (Shambaugh) and Clarence G. Paugh Sr.  HE was also preceded in death by two sisters, Iris Whitehair and Gloria Sisler. 

Mr. Paugh was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was of the Protestant faith. 

He is survived by his brother Mervin H. Paugh and wife Georganna of Ridgewood, N.Y.; three sisters Rachel G. Bonner of Bayard, Martha L. Short of Terra Alta, and Sharon R. Sim of Gormania; and several nieces and nephews. 

At Mr. Paugh's request his body was cremated.  The inurnment of ashes was held Friday, June 29, at 11 a.m., at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Thomas, where the Rev. Jonas Johnson Jr. officiated. The David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Oakland, Md.  was in charge of arrangements.
