Dorothy Armentrout
Dorothy Ellen Grow Armentrout, 85, a resident of Holly Meadows community, Parsons, departed this life Friday evening, July 13, at Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins.
She was born Monday, May 25, 1922, at Thomas, a daughter of the late Earnest Earl Grow and Blanche Elizabeth Perks Grow. On June 15, 1941, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Melvin Glen Armentrout, who preceded her in death Feb. 25, 1999.
Surviving are one son, Robert Earl "Bob" Armentrout and wife "Beni" of Elkins; two daughters, Elizabeth "Betty" Shipp and husband, Robert, and Patricia Dilly and husband Frank, all of Holly Meadows; one brother, William Grow of Lexington, Ky.; two sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Knotts of Parsons and Margaret Roy of Hambleton; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, Earl Grow and Harry Grow; and two sisters, Georgia Dumire and Mary Dougherty.
She was a graduate of Thomas High School with the class of 1939. Dorothy was a faithful member of St. John's United Methodist Church since 1957. She received the Special Mission Recognition Award and the 1996 Mother of the Year Award from the St. John’s United Methodist Women’s Society of which she was a member. She was also a member of the Women’s Sunday School class and served on the kitchen committee for several years. She was a member of the Parsons Chapter #91 Order of the Eastern Star and a past member of the former Liberty Rebekah Lodge #95 of Parsons. Dorothy and her husband, Melvin, are best known for owning and operating Western Auto in Parsons form 1956 to 1966.
The family received friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Sunday, July 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parloron Monday, July 16, at 1 p.m. The Rev. John Morrison will officiate and interment followed in Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Dorothy Ellen Grow Armentrout. Ruby Best
Ruby Kathleen Best, 80, of Marietta, Ohio, went to our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 11.
She was born on April 1, 1927 in new Matamoras to Harold and Jessie Alloway Earley.
She is survived by a son Richard Best (and Gina) of Marietta, Ohio; four daughters Phyllis Offenberger (and Phil) of Marietta, Ohio, Linda Warren of Lowell, Kathy King (and Bob) of Davis and Brenda Arnold (and Charles) of Taylors, S.C.; a step son Reginald Best Jr. of Belpre, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, five brothers and six sisters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reginald Leroy Best on Aug. 21, 2001.

Shiela A. Marker
Shiela Ann Shannon Marker, 55, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Friday evening, July 13, 2007 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Saturday, Nov. 24, 1951, at Parsons, a daughter of the late John Claridon Shannon Sr. and Evelyn Louise Lipscomb Shannon. On June 24, 1972, at Dover, Del., she was married to Ronald C. Marker, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Shawn Ryan Marker of Parsons; one daughter, Karen Diane Burns and husband Stephen, of St. George; one brother; John C. Shannon Jr. and wife Melody, of Manassas, Va.; and two grandsons, Logan and Wesley Burns, both of St. George.
Preceding her in death was one sister, Karen Diane Shannon.
She attended the schools of Tucker County and graduated from high school in Dover, Del. She was a beautician and worked for Stevens Florist for many years. Shiela had a great love for animals and crafts.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Monday, July 16 from 5 to 9 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home parlor Tuesday, July 17 at 11 a.m. The Rev. John Morrison officiated and interment will followed in Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Shiela Ann Shannon Marker. Jimmy Marsh
Jimmy Ernest Marsh, 64, a resident of Spruce Street, Parsons, passed away on SAturday, July 14.
He was born Sept. 17, 1942 in Nestorville, a son of the late Wesley Delbert and Elsie Mae Gribble Marsh. Jimmy was united in marriage Sept. 21, 1963 to Leona Moore Marsh, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter REbecca "Becky" Lynn McDaniel and fiance Christopher Wood of Morgantown; one son Thomas R. and wife Michelle Marsh of Franklin, Tenn.; three sisters Polly and husband Walter Alexander of Nestorville, Donald Clifford and wife Rebecca Marsh of Century, Charles William and wife Vicky Marsh of Fairmont, Todd Michael and wife Roseanne Marsh of Morgantown; four grandchildren Keri Lynn McDaniel, James Wesley Wood, both of Morgantown, Thomas Grand and Andrew Jacob Marsh, both of Franklin, Tenn; and several nieces and nephews.
Jimmy was a beloved employee of Morgans Mail Contracting Service as a truck driver and he had also worked as an Iron Worker for 20 years. Jimmy was a member of Christian Roders and Racers Association, a local antique car club in Clarksburg. He was a former member of the Clarksburg Church of the Nazarene, and attended the Pifer Mountain Church.
Friends were received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi on Monday July 16 from 4-8 p.m and on Tuesday, July 17 from 8 a.m. to noon at which time Jimmy was moved to the Pifer Mountain Church in Tucker County to lie in state from 1-2 p.m., the service time with the Rev. Robert Schdmit officiating. Interment followed at the Pifer Mountain Cemetery. Wright Funeral Home services was in charge of the services.
Leigh A. Tallman
A tragic accident took the life of a wonderful daughter, sister, mother, friend and Educator. Leigh Tallman died July 9, 2007 with nature and the beauty of her farm all around her.
Leigh was the daughter of Carolyn Kosko Pell. She was preceded in death by her father, Lee Buryl Tallman and her stpep-father Patrick Pell. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on Aug. 6, 1948.
Leigh was the beloved sister of Janice (Tallman) Brzezinski and MIchael Brzezinski and niece Megan and Nephew Matthew of Rochester Hills, Mich., Patty and John Tallman of Cleveland Ohio and nieces Bethany Tallman and Cara Abangan (Romeo Abangan).
She is survived by her step-brother George Kosko and his sister Mary Lou Kosko; and special cousins Pam and Ed Harrah of Grosse Point, Mich. and Mont and Barb Miller of Parsons.
Also surviving are her sons Zachary Maghes and Jordan Tallman of Manchester, Mich.; and a multitude of friends and loved ones, Sharon, Dana and Andrea and family, as well as Al Maghes and his family.
Leigh, a life-long artist and dancer, graduated with her B.S. degree from Miami of Ohio University and received her M.A. and M.S. degrees from Eastern Michigan University. Leigh was an educational diagnostician and a specialist in assistive technology for special needs students. She began her career in Ohio teaching Health and physical education. She taught at Lincoln Consolidated Schools, Ypsilanti Mich. and for the past 30 years with the Van Buren Public Schools, in Belleville Mich. She was an instructor at Marygrove University for the past 8 years.
Leigh had a tremendous impact on all who knew her. She brought joy and warmth and energy to each encounter. She was a generous loving woman whose compassion and sensitivity will continue to be felt by all who knew her. Her interest in conflict resolution and her commitment to human rights was evidenced in her participation with The National Challenge Day, Council for Exceptional Children, Special Olympics, Orten Gillingham Foundation and many other social issues.
She had a delightful sense of humor and whimsy. She was a wonderful, thoughtful mother who insisted on self-reliance for her family. She could fell a tree, build a cabin, ride, rope and corral not just her horses, but her children, excitable students, their parents and her friends. In her own quiet and subtle manner she could quell an upset parent and acknowledge their concerns and reach a cool, calm and collected consensus. Those who worked beside her feel a deep and abiding gratitude for her talents.
Leigh was involved in her community and was a strong support of Manchester Sports and Academic programs. She attended every football, basketball and sporting event working hard to support all students in their efforts. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Leigh Tallman Education Fund, plant a tree or a flowering plant and her her dear in your heart. She lived each day with grace and ease and confidence in the endless capacity of human fellowship and the beauty of nature.
The family received friends on Thursday, July 12 at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, located at 901 N. Main Street, Chelsea, Mich. from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A celebration of her life was held on Friday, July 13, at 11 a.m. at the Dexter Huron Metro Park located at 6535 Huron River Drive, Dexter, Mich. and a light luncheon followed.
Kenneth Wolfe
Kenneth Edward Wolfe, 78, of Mt. Storm, died on Wednesday, July 11 at his home.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years Zolula "Andy" George Wolfe; two sons Carl "Bob" Wolfe, Jeffrey Wolfe and Rhonda; two sisters, Hilda Crisconi and Francis Stieringer and Matthew; a half-sister Irene George; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, Bismarck Road, Mt. Storm on Sunday, July 22 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Smith and Rev. John Walker officiating.
