Our History
Soon after the war between the states, several memorial and monument associations were formed along with the United Confederate Veterans organization and its auxiliary groups. The organization is a product of the merging of two groups originally formed in 1890-- the Missouri Daughters of the Confederacy® and the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Confederate Soldiers Home in Tennessee. Originally named, the National Association of the Daughters of the Confederacy®, the group holds the distinction of being the oldest patriotic organization in the country with an establishment date of 1894 in Nashville, Tennessee. One year later, the current name, the United Daughters of the Confederacy® was adopted at its second meeting in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1919, the group was incorporated under the laws of the District of Columbia.
