BARKER CEMETERY

The cemetery is located east of the "S" curve in Smithfield on the north side of the road, and at the end of Barker Street, County Rte. 2/1. It can be reached by climbing a steep, narrow road situated on the east side of a hollow, and is approximately ¼ mile up the hill. It is situated on the crest of the hill. Robert G. Phipps reports that his father, Glenn Isaac Phipps (1913-1963) took him to this cemetery. His father said that his infant brother was buried there. The grave was never marked and as far as we know, no name was given to the infant. The infant was born Oct. 21, 1917.
There were sunken areas that we felt were possibly sunken graves that were not marked, and there were other rough stone slabs that are not mentioned above, that may or may not indicate additional graves.
