Neil McKinnon and Cecil Scott were 1st cousins. In addition, I know of three relatives who served for the U.S. forces in the First World War. Two were killed, being, Carl Cole (1891-1918) and Manley Marriott (1896- 1918). These two men were also 1st cousins.

He was Private David Fountain of Skowhegan, Maine b. 2 Feb 1881 d. 26 Jan 1946. Ser # 1030744. I have no use for this book since this person is not a direct relative. Do you have an address I could send this little book to ? It has handwritten notes on how to operate a machine gun and a rather interesting diary from November 11, 1918 to his discharge and arrival back home in Skowhegan, Maine.

Comments: What program do I need to have on my computer to be able to see the uniforms, equipment, and maps? My grandfather, Charles James Lee was originally from St. Jacques, Newf. but had been living in & enlisted from Southern Sask. He fought in the 10th Battalian C.E.F. His military records state that he arrived in France 8/29/1915. He served as a Scout from 9/2/1916 to 1918. He was wounded multiple times--"lightly gassed", "buried several times" "over the top 9 or 10 times" and finally "blown up in an observation post 1/23/1918." He was awarded the Military Medal twice and then something that his daughters thought was called a "Rosette" but may have been a "Gazette." He rarely spoke of his wartime experiences. His daughters and granddaughters (including me) would like to know more about what that part of his life was like. Where he went; what battles; what life was like "over there" etc. We would like help reading abbreviations we cannot read in his military records--for example, can any one tell me what DAH means in a WWI medical record (Disability Group A)? What are some of these diagnoses (eg Enteralgia?) Some of your links appear to be broken. I was especially interested in the Medals and Awards link, but it is not operating. Can you give me another reference to it? Many thanks for your help. If you are interested, I will try to give you a bio of my grandfather once I get the information I seek.

Comments: Great-grandson of PTE Thomas Evans CARR, native of Liverpool, England. Arrived in America in 1894. When war broke out in Europe he wanted to go fight. The Americans would not take him as he was to old. Determined to, "Go fight the Kaiser", as the family story is told, he dyed his grey hair and mustache then headed north across the border. He lied to the Canadian Army Recruiter about his age telling them he was 40, when he really was closer to 60. He was assigned to a support battalion where he could use his brick masonry skills. Alas after arrival in France fatigue caught up with him. He was shipped back to Montreal for discharge just two weeks before the Armistace. He would later die in the 1930s living in New Jersey. As a veteran my self, of the American Navy< I am very proud of him for his courage and belief that he "had to go".
