Notes

Book 3 – Familia Omnibus published in 2002, and is also available on CD (product 9). It contains genealogical information on various families – mostly small families that would not warrant a complete book, but too much to publish in Familia. A second edition was published in 2004 in CD format (product 14).

The 2002 CD covers the following family names: Beckett, Benad(i)e, Dannhauser, De la Harpe, De Waal, Esterhuizen, Gleeson, Greathead, Green, Hancock, Loftie-Eaton, Norval, Oates, O'Keefe, Robarts, Sanders Stewart, Van der Hoogt, Van Schalkwyk, Van Straaten, Vermeulen.

The 2003 CD covers the family names Cillie, Cellier, Celliers, Cilliers, Krapohl, Oelschig, Rossouw, Van Aardt. The Red Cross List of ABW Prisoners-of-War, and the OFS Burghers Called up for ABW and the ABW Medal Roll are also included.

CD 5 – All editions of Familia, the GSSA quarterly journal, from the first edition in 1964 to the last edition in 2004 are contained on this disk – the full editions, including all the articles, diagrams, photographs and pedigree charts. Articles and references are linked and searches can be done for any name, place or word. The disk also contains an extended index and links between articles that deal with similar subjects.

CD 8 – Version 3 of the Cemetery recordings was released in 2005 and the price is R80 for first time buyers and R50 for those who had purchased a previous version (plus R10 postage).

CD 10 - Estate Notices is an alphabetical list of names and estate data, and comes with an index.

CD 11 – Indian Passenger Lists. Shipping Lists 1860-1911. This CD is of great value to researchers who are conducting research into the Indian community in SA. The Indian Shipping Lists, complete in 91 volumes, provide the most extensive and important data relating to any immigrant community in Southern Africa.

Indentured Indians arrived in Natal in 384 vessels, of which 262 sailed from Madras and 122 from Calcutta. The first, the Truro, arrived in Port Natal in November 1860 and the final, Umlazi 43, on 21 July 1911. The captain of each vessel was provided with a list of passengers and this was handed over to the Protector of Indians, or his representative in Natal, who, after checking the list against the passengers, had it bound in what has become known as the Indian Shipping Lists or Ships' Lists.

The Shipping Lists provide the following information: Name, Father's Name, Age, Sex, Caste, Height, and Place of Origin – Zillah, Thanna (or Taluk), and Village.

CD 12 – The Van Wyk Family Tree, produced by Northern Transvaal branch, is based on the original manuscript compiled over many years by Philip VAN WYK (*2.02.1936 †10.09.1995). He concentrated mainly on the Van Wyk families in the die Gordonia, Hay, Kimberley and Vryburg areas. Death notices from these areas, Cape Province baptism records from 1830 to 1889, as well as the Voortrekker baptism records and a list of ABW deaths were consulted.

Family Bible Transcriptions and Registers. One of our GSSA members, Thys du Preez, transcribed the family Bibles and registers housed at the National Cultural History Museum in Pretoria. The information is available in either GEDCOM or text format. The text is in MS-Word format and contains 176 pages.

Familia Master Index is an index of all the articles published in Familia from the first edition in 1964 up to and including the last edition in 2004. The articles are indexed under headings such as: General, Archives, Cemeteries, Emigration, Genealogical services, Heraldry, Immigration (British, German, Huguenot, Jewish, Military, Dutch, Portuguese, St Helena), Pedigree charts, Medical, Slaves, and Surnames (in alphabetical order).
